I kind of like HACKERS. It has its own earnest charm that it wears on its sleeve and flaunts its 90s style. Yet I find Swordfish almost unwatchable. But because I am a Computer Engineer, I get sick of people thinking I can do what movies and TV show think that's what my job is. And despite what Bob thinks of the hacking, real life Info Security people say it's the most accurate they've seen in any movie. Like in this WIRED article:
http://www.wired.com/2015/01/blackhat-the-best-cyber-movie/?mbid=social_fb

And Bob mentioned Undergrads! I loved that show! I found it late on Sunday nights/Monday mornings on Comedy Central, back in my freshman year of college. SO many great moments and jokes.

China? Again? I get that they give money/support to promote their country and all that, but every time I see one of those overextended landscape thing that pretty much yell "LOOK LOOK CHINA, LOOK AT IT, THEY GAVE US MONEY LOOK AT IT" they become more and more annoying.
Couldn't agree with you more. It's paid pandering, and it's becoming annoyingly commonplace. I don't mind it when it's subtle and gels with the movie, because plenty of countries do that. But China doesn't really do subtlety.

You've obvious never had to face the other end of a gun barrel before, so good for you and your privileged life, but that doesn't mean that you get to pretend that sicking heavily armed people on others, with the preface that the other person may be injured, isn't serious. Contrary to what you say, its disgusting how much little value you have for the lives of others.
Oh please. Don't waste my time with your talk of "privilege" and social justice wankery. The only privilege I have is living in a country where the amount of citizens killed by the police per year is often zero.

Haven't seen, had no interest in. I just had to point out the best part of going to see Dracula Untold (I think that's what that movie was called) was having this trailer pop up in it and listening to the agonized moans coming from our 'friend' who actually calls herself a white hat hacker. It was fantastic.

Yeah, when I saw the trailer for this and it said "directed by Michael Mann" I was pretty shocked, because I don't think I've ever looked at the trailer for one of his movies and said "wow this looks dumb as hell".

I'm starting to believe that Bob suffers from some sort of rare condition that if he doesn't find a way to insert some sort of social justice hoopla into his speech at least every 5 minutes, he suffers an aneurysm and dies. It's seriously the only conclusion I can come to for his never-ending need to add it to EVERY video, no matter how unrelated or dumb the movie or subject matter is.

Wow, I'm sure I'm going to love this even more now that Bob hates it, I loved both Hackers and The Net (even Johnny Mnemonic), cheesy hacker movies (like Antitrust) ftw. If it's like those, then I'm game.

Just to dip back in, I'm going to have to watch this at some point but the hacking stuff is getting pretty good reviews for authenticity. I wouldn't know yet but if it involves any scenes where people walk in, drop a USB stick and wait for someone to plug it in, or say they're Terry from Dell and just straight up wheel the server out the front door then that's how it actually gets done a lot of times.

If anyone wants realistic computer thrillers then I recommend reading The Cuckoo's Egg

Terrorism is defined as the use of violence or the threat of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims.
Here is the FBI's definition of it

Al right guys, it's time. Sometime soon(i personally sayt valentines day) we raid tumblr. I have no idea how exactly(i think the theme should be 'gore2thecore'), but it needs to be a ddos as well. We've been putting up with their shit for too long, maybe this time we can get a few to actually kill themselves.

This time, we're out for blood. We won't stop until someone hangs themselves on tumblr.
Maybe he's being dramatic, but he is talking about harrassing users on a website that is host of anti-gamergate material and memes and posting shocking images at the very least, and encouraging an attack on the site for hosting material he disagrees with.

If you don't like being called a terrorist, then you shouldn't engage in that activity or support those that pursue it. Just as someone who steals gets called a thief.

So /baphomet/, I know you like raids. Now, I have some dox on a SJW. I have her address, first and last name, parents phone numbers, and her Steam, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Instagram account names. I'm currently working on getting her phone number. She's a transgender, so she prefers to be referred to as male. She constantly makes fun of straight white cis males and spread lies about my friend just because he was one. Are you guys interested?

Just post the fuckin' dox in the dox dump thread, it may or may not happen in the future; we've busy with retaliation at the moment.

And rule 2 ******; when in doubt always raid. Why would we not want her dox?

I never saw either Hackers or the Net.

Maybe I should pick those up and see what they look like today.
Hackers is at least amusingly bad at times.

The Net isn't worth watching at all.

WWE Immortals just looks ridiculous. The Rock as a living rock is one thing, but then you add to that the military-backed superhero John Cena, the hellish MMA monster Brock Lesnar, the Big Show showing up dressed as a 7' tall, 500 lb lumberjack, and Daniel Bryan the living goat. And all of it running as both a Mortal Kombat reskin and a collectable card game.

/baph/ doesn't support gg, they do everything they do simply for the "lulz." they've already doxxed plenty of gg'ers
and don't come touting that bullshit, tired rhetoric that gg is all about harassing women. i have seen numerous gg'ers speak out against the harassment that people are carrying out on anti-gg'ers. pretty much every major figure in support of gg is very much against harassing others. i guarantee that the majority of harassers claiming to be with gg are unimportant individuals who made accounts simply to harass and make gg look bad. i haven't seen many efforts by the major figures against gg to speak out against harassment that people from their side of the debate are carrying out.

i just checked /baph/ and the first thread i saw was mocking gg. /baph/ is its own entity, stop treating it like it's even remotely representative of gg.

Yeah, man. Looking at 8chan just burns me up too, those disgusting examples of human shit. If only there was some way I could avoid it.

Anyways, not sure I could handle a movie like this without cringing to death, so...likely not one I'm ever gonna see.

For that whole other argument going on that has nothing to do with the movie, acts of swatting definitely have the potential to be extremely dangerous or even fatal, and I would call them a form of terrorism. Other online threats should be reported to proper authorities. Publicizing them to use as fuel against a movement you don't like is not alright (simply publicizing them, however, is rather more alright, though I'm not exactly sure how much I'd personally recommend it). Especially in cases where the threat didn't even mention anything about the movement in the first place.

All of this goes both ways for me.

The thing that always bothers me about hackers is that they shouldn't be building their algorithms right before using them. They should just have a program on a USB drive, plug it in, and wait for stuff to happen. Having someone actively 'hacking into' something is like having a robber go to a house and begin crafting lockpicks out of the Welcome mat.

The fact that this specific hacker is also an action hero is another problem I have with these kinds of movies, in which a specialist in one field is always a specialist in another field. You can't have brains and brawn at the same time, that's not how life works.

Is it strange that the only thing about this movie that stuck out to me was the fact that Hemsworth's character is distractingly good looking? I mean, like Bob pointed out, someone who has devoted their life to mastering computer systems and learning the ins and outs of coding is probably more likely to be... shall we say, a little lower on the sexual attraction ladder?

"Doxxing and harrassment are the real dangers of the net."
This episode had me in stitches. My eyes started tearing up from laughing so hard. The absurdity of the things Bob was saying, the comparisons he was making, the ignorant stereotyping, and the thinly-veiled bigotry were knee-slappingly, hypocritically hilarious. Especially in light of his usual (unwarranted) sanctimonious, holier-than-thou attitude.

Then I looked at the comments section....

I won't need to laugh for a month.

Anyway, I don't know. I might need to see this film just for the hell of it. Mann's a good director, but even the best are bound to have a few missteps. Even so, sometimes it's good to see those missteps so one can better appreciate the hits.

Almost as bad as the hacker craze of films from a few years back.

Really Bob, you bring up "Hackers" and "The Net" but leave out the performance of a lifetime provided to us by the one and only Harrison Ford in "Firewall"? And I thought I knew you....
