The bourne identity ; meh
The Bourne supremacy ; literally fell asleep in the first 20 minutes
The Bourne Ultimatum; Given to me because people thought i liked the movies, still haven't unwrapped it.
The bourne legacy ; Might see it because of Jeremy Renner, but no other reason will get me there.

My problem is they just don't seem to know what they want to be. They're paced badly and whatever camera filter they're using to make everything blue is a turn off for me. Just can't get into them, despite my brief attempts.

I feel the same way Bob does. For instance: I've seen all three of the original films... And I wasn't even aware that Jason Bourne was meant to be a superhuman until Bob mentioned it here... I just... Can't remember anything. The movies are just extended trailers in my head.
I never got the idea that Jason Bourne was somehow super human, just that he was insanely trained, and then had some amnesia to deal with. Huh.

I think Renner will do a fine job, and I'll likely check the movie out on cable later instead of in theaters.

I guess you are a little young Bob but Hawkeye/Bourne's powers obviously come from using Roger Ramjet's Proton Energy Pills.

Nice to know im not the only one who found the films sort of meh, not bad, just kind of a blur.

Now that Bob mentions it I don't remember the last time a film I watched mentioned any milatary organisation out side America's. No love for the SAS Hollywood? I hear their pretty good.

So, did he like it or not? Because I'd like to get Bobs' opinion on this without giving him the hit. I only want to know his opinion so I can do the exact oppoosite.

I think the reason it took off was because the first movie focused on a more intimate scale than most blockbusters making it unique. And it also helped that the love interest was a very normal human being not some ninja sidekick girl in a silly skin tight suit. Then the team behind it really obviously were not expecting the runaway success and interpreted the popularity as a result of the conspiracy nonsense and high octane action, both things seen more prominently in every other action movie ever.
All we want is an action movie depicting one very clever guy with a gun trying to kill our protagonist, not all the time, just ONCE. We cant relate to the guy riding a jet engine into the Eiffel tower while duel wielding miniguns against the entire population of Iran. Cool to watch, but so much simpler and more nerve wracking the Bourne Identity way.

"Joss Whedon will direct Avengers 2. There was a question about this?"

No, just a sad, soft and ultimately ignored moaning from me.

I would like to point out that the only thing that beat Russia was Russia, so I think we just want to have that same power.

The latest Bourne movie is surprisingly Bourne-less.
It's actually kinda funny you mentioned that America vs America thing at the end. The very first movie I saw Matt Damon in was Team America.

So the "we built our own worst enemy" thing doesn't work for you or is it that "America is great" gets pounded around so much that it's hard to see the humility inherent in the concept?

I guess the movie is awesome. From a guy who admittedly doesn't like Bourne movies this is a very positive review.

I love Bourne trilogy by the way. Bourne Supremacy is my favorite.
I loved the trilogy :) really enjoyed them.

admittedly I was initially unhappy with the changes happening with the 4th movie until I found out (pre-Avengers too) that Jeremy Renner was in it after having seen The Town. so then I became open to it, tho its apparently taking lotsa hits from critics heh

Actually, the "we become our own worst enemy" deal isn't so rare. After all, Marvel went ahead and did the whole Civil War storyline, hero vs hero. Pretty much any three anime/manga you can think of have at least an arc like that, if not a final stage. This is just the movie version.

Least Marvel now know that he can carry the wait of an action movie on his own - Hawkeye Origin story please? Thanks!

Great review by the way, makes some interesting points, not only about the film but the series as a whole.

Now that you mention it... yeah. I can recall anything of substance from the previous Bourne films. Like even the clips Bob used didn't ring any bells...

I'd like my movie purchases to stick with me longer than the time it takes to watch them...
Agreed, I'm one of those people who can remember what happened in a book/movie if you show me the title/cover and I can't even remember if I saw the last Bourne film. The start of the first one I can remember but after that nothing.

I can remember those shitty syfy channel daytime movies but not the Bourne films, what does that say about them?

I'm the same way... again, unless it is those movies with the generic bland qualities. I think that is the Bourne issue. It had some nice action sequences but nothing that really sticks with you because so many movies have nice actions sequences. It all sort of becomes a grey sludge in my brain. ... And I think parts of it in my brian may have meshed with the movie "Shooter" because Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg look so much alike and tend to play similar rolls.

Bob you're REALLY trying too hard to fit jingoism into this series. Did it honestly fly right over your head that the whole point of Bourne was 'what happens when we go too far?' Or did you just fall asleep for the last five minutes of Ultimatum and miss Matt Damon saying EXACTLY THAT to the guy who tried to kill him?

I think you never really got out of the Michelle Bay Transformers mindset.
Thank you.

Bob is so busy trying to sound like he's smart that he completely misses the point of what the Bourne movies are actually about and instead spends most of the review talking out of his ass.
I'm not thinking it is so much about missing the point, but forgetting it because the movies stuck with him for less time then the average take out chinese food meal. If everyone quoting SpiderJerusalem seems to remember the nitty-gritty plot details of the film, good on you, but you all do seem to have forgotten the part in the 5 minute long review where Bob says that he can't remember most of the previous films.

(Side note: trying to sound smart... I don't Bob from Adam, but from watching his reviews and the big picture he seems like a "smart" guy to me. You can disagree with him on a aesthetic or subjective basis, but ragging on him for "trying to sound smart" reeks of anti-intellectualism and taking a review of a film you enjoyed way too personally.)
