XD I knew of Mazes and Monsters all ready because of Spoony, and Vin Diesel liking D&D because of this review on "Anime" By Soulja boy.

Nice review though I was hoping you'd review "Devil", which is funny because everyone else was hoping for "The Town" or "Easy A XD"

So why he review exactly?

Hm... i have to agree (to some of those before me:

The second Dungeons and Dragons movie wasn't bad. I enjoyed it. (Ok, it wasn't THAT good either)

ALSO:
RIDDICK? YEAH. I LOVED Chronicles of Riddick... how can anyone NOT love it? It was a cool story, great atmosphere, inventive, good and powerful fight scenes and great visuals. One of my alltime favourites. (8/10, never gave a 10 in my life)

Hm... didn't i have something else to say? Ah well, wasn't important i guess.

Mazes & Monsters is a prefectly fine movie. Never has such an accurate depiction of LARPing ever been made. Truely an insightful work.

So let me get this straight "The Town" a movie that has been held in high regard so far, comes out, Devil which looks like a cheesy horror flick came out, The American a spy thriller which is also critically acclaimed. Easy A with the always lovely Emma Stone, and even the horrific indulgence in narcissism that is I'm still here(like anyone gives a damn where Joaquin phoenix has been). And bob picks dungeons and f*ing dragons movies, even he will admit have they are awful, and they are not even recent films. If his point was to state how much we need a new D and D movie, well OK he does have a blog it is the place you would normally express that sort of thing. I was kinda hoping for a movie review, well no I was actually expecting a movie review but I get it sometimes you want to take time to think about a movie before reviewing it or something.

Dear Mister Bob. I can understand that during a particularly void week of films you might want to do a special to keep us entertained.

But in this weekend alone two superbly reviewed movies, Easy A and The Town were both released,
alongside the hotly talked about Devil. So might I ask, why in the hell did you pick this week, off all the bone dry summer weeks we've been suffering, to do this?

as a DnD player i did hate the first movie they made. i also didnt really liek the cartoon, even though a bootleg boxset of the entire series is within arms reatch from me as i speak next to my star wars holiday special which i havent burned yet for some odd reason. but, the second movie, wrath of the dragon god or whatever it was...which i also have burried somewhere in all my shit thats more then likely lost unfortunately, was in my honest opinion good. made back before syfy was stupid and was scifi, it was a decent flick, and the commentary was equal as good being done by 3 characters from the DnD univerous thats seen through the books and 3rd edition games. another thing, one sec, let me grab it from the shelf here...the company Rhino (they still exsist?) made a average lookign CGI interactive adventure movie called Scourge of Worlds that also wasnt half bad. Surprised you passed over that one. but yea, i really just made this to say the 2nd DnD movie was actually good. also a new chroncles of riddick? sweet. cheesy as all hell type of movie, but its a guilty pleasure that i enjoy oh so much.

Anyway: what does D&D have to do with Maths? No idea of 4th ed changed that (I doubt it) but it's not really anything more than first grade addition and subtraction.
Well, you don't need more than basic math, but to have an idea of what you're facing and your chance of success, math is pretty useful. I always guess the enemy's defenses and determine my chances of success and mean damage.

When you fight multiple identical ennemies, you can guess what power to choose without overkilling and maximize the party's efficiency.

You may say it's not necessary, but in my game, I play the tactical warlord so coming up with the best tactic is part of my job.

Tell me, would *you* want to be the guy to make the next DnD movie? I sure as hell wouldn't.

Actually, I think he's simply doing a video based on the fact that there have been several D&D related articles coinciding with the release of the new Red Box, which itself got an article on the Escapist, rather than any kind of lack of movies to review. Bob probably got asked by the staff to do so.

wait wtf, how do you make a movie out of Battleship? O.O
Presumably, you take ANY script set around a battleship and put the "BATTLESHIP" logo on the title screen ;)

In the case of this one, it's about The Navy fighting water-oriented aliens.
Can't be any worse than the upcoming "Asteroids" film.

I too admired from afar this fantasy game full of dice and numbers that my older brothers played. They only let me play once as some kind of troll with an electric tongue that couldn't use it because he was in a winter environment and it would freeze. (They pretty much just wanted to get rid of me I suspect)

Oh, and Bender's Big Score was the best Futurama movie, but who cares, the series is back!

There was a good D&D movie made.

It's called Dorkness Rising. Its about several friends getting together and playing D&D. The film switches from the players interacting to their adventure as they imagine it and while its meant to be a comedy it isn't about making fun of D&D but rather showing extream examples of the crazy things that can happen while playing like a lawful monk that is being played by a guy who would rather kill and steal or the bard who keeps dying over and over again.

The film is very low budget, like colledge film budget but it has some truely clever writting and the acting is decent enough. It's on Netflix watch instantly and i'm sure you can order online.

Seriously, if your looking for a good D&D movie then check out Dorkness Rising, if you can get past the lack of budget then theres a lot to love.

Chronicles sucked. Ass. Copious amounts no less.
However, Pitch Black was made of more win than you could handle in one go.
I haven't watched it for a while and it definitely wasn't as good as Pitch Black.

However as Sci Fi films go it was quite awesome... and Vin Diesel was a great actor in it.

I'm fairly psyched for the new one.
