Over all the Fast and Furious movies are meh, though I do have a soft spot in my heart for #3. I didn't even know there was a 4.

Well, Vin did do Pitch Black and the Riddick games, Bob, which were excellent.

Heh, pretty much all of the interiors were shot right here, in and around Atlanta. Apparently, they could only afford to shoot outside in Rio.
Who knew that shooting rights in Shacks were so exp- You know what? Imma leave that one actually.

I'll admit i did enjoy the first one, but i was 11 and barely spoke a word of English so if i was to watch it again i would likely be disappointed, but even if i was 11 today i still think i would be bored, i mean over 2 hours that's just way to long for a silly action movie, keep them around 80 otherwise you have to mix in some plot and characters and if you are making a movie about people driving cars and shooting guns, that's probably not your strong side.

Yes bob, we get it, you don't like new action movies, but there still is a group that is hungry for new action movies, that's why they are making expendables 2

To be honest, I loved this movie, best comedy of the year

It was fricking hilarious! Biggest punch in the crotch to physics since crouching tiger hidden dragon. I'm pretty sure I annoyed everyone in the cinema with my laughing during the final safe towing chase scene. Momentum, what the hell is momentum?

Loved the realism, I totally wouldn't use my 6 tonne armoured assault vehicle to tow a massive safe down the road if I had two sedans painted black with Maaaad engines.

I don't know how bob can say this didn't show Rio in the best light, what about their roads? Built so well and strong that towing a steel safe at 50mph without any wheels under it doesn't leave a scratch, let alone a pothole or massive gouge.

(Favorite joke of the film: while towing the safe down the road behind 2 cars, one of the characters back at the base says "You've got every corrupt cop in Rio on your tail", because, you know, only corrupt cops chase people who have just stolen a massive safe from the police station)

This kind of ignorance is especially galling for a reviewer who is meant to be impartial and to judge a film by it's merits and not by the things you associate it with.
He did judge it on its merits, and found it lacking. Also, perhaps you're confused over the term 'critic', for a critic is not supposed to be impartial. A critic's primary job is to pass judgement on something, and subjectivity is necessary in order to do that.

Damn. So far I've enjoyed the first and third movies (the ones that are actually about racing) and I was hoping they'd keep up their every-other-movie-tolerable-style. But no. Another action movie.

And btw, I'm not saying the movies are good, I'm just saying I enjoyed them. They were fun. Unlike 2 and 4. And I who don't even like cars.

I really like the F&F movies. It's never about the plot, or the actors, or the setting, it's just a guilty pleasure to see the chase and racing scenes that have always been constantly good in the series. It's always an entertaining way to spend one and a half hours.

No, Bob. I think it's you who needs to grow up. Stop acting thirteen years old and get off your high horse. I used to have high hopes for you as a critic, but then you just messed that up with all sorts of condescending insults. Plenty of other people have said it here already, but Bob, grow up and be the better man and just for saying 'Bring it on' at the end of your segment shows that you yourself know you're in the wrong. It's tacky and it's pathetic to put on a 'flame shield' that is really just you purposefully dismissing everyone who disagrees with you.

You have ruined two shows I thought had good potential. Escape to the Movies and The Big Picture. You ruined Escape to the Movies with your condescending attitude and you ruined The Big Picture (which was wholly intended by you at the beginning to be something aimed at life in general) by just ranting about comic books. Sure, there are a few episodes where you don't and sure, a few of the comic book rants were interesting, but if you wanted to rant about Comic books, then make a show SPECIFICALLY FOR THAT.

I have become disinterested in you, Bob, despite following you from day one. Count me out. I won't watch anymore of the vitriol you spew from your condescending mouth because all you're sounding like is a whiny brat who can't get past high school. I'm going to leave the actual movie reviews to a person who can actually REVIEW MOVIES: Roger Ebert.

Good day, Bob, but until you grow up, it'll be our last.

Hey Bob, I'm a brazillian viewer and I have to say that I just loved this review. Yeah it's the same damn thing that every movie of the series has shown us and, to be honest, I'm not THAT surprised that Brazil is seen like this. For some time, the drug dealers and other, well "gangsters", were really putting terror... IN RIO DE JANEIRO. And guess what? This is being fought everyday by the police and the population in general, fighint off those bastards.

If anyone is reading this, why don't you guys give some research to "Invasão do Morro do Alemão" in Google? Or simply put, the invasion of the "morro do alemão", wich was one of the biggest favelas of the country and a massive drug dealers territory, that the police, WITH the population, put down those guys.

Bob, Iv'e always watched your show but never really made a comment. And I wonder if you watched two brazilian movies that are EXCELLENT action films, talks about fighting off drug dealers and among other things, like coprruption. The first and the Second "Tropa de Elite" movies. The first one is more of an "action" movie, and the second is more about the politics and the way the system works.

Mangue Surfer said:
The funny thing about Brazil is the gangsters really rules the country.

You really don't know what the hell you are talking about. The violence was way bigger only in Rio de Janeiro and guess what? It is getting smaller and saffer.
No it's not a dream world, not really close to this, but Brazil is much more than its favelas. Damn, my country is bigger than you and most of the people around here know and think it is. Put that prejudice aside and before you say something sad like that, give some research boy.

Bob, I enjoyed your review. Some of it was incredibly hilarious. "Caaaaars." Heh. That said, I wish you luck in dealing with the conflagration heating up in the comments. Did you remember to invest in asbestos garments before completing this review?

I'm actually quite surprised that anyone is surprised that he hated the film. 1. He's a critic on the Escapist. I can imagine it's not the same as your conventional newspaper/TV movie critic. He has a short time to give an opinion on a film while entertaining the audience. It's a given that he has to pick the most noticeable aspects of a film and base his segment on those. It's not shocking that the vast majority of films are terrible or at the very least sub-par, so you're going to be hearing more bad than good. 2. It'd be silly to expect him to balance his reviews with good and bad criticism. Any fan of the show will praise it for you, and in many cases, those that won't like it simply won't go to see it. (For most films the advertisements give away the film, or in cases like this, the past films) 3. It's Fast and Furious. It's a horrible film series. That doesn't mean you can't like it, but liking it doesn't make it a great film. I love Stardust, and pretty much ANY Jackie Chan movie, but that's not to say they're suddenly deep great films.

I don't watch most of Bob's videos personally, but I am surprised to hear people annoyed by the fact that the critic is being negative.

I've watched Fast and Furious one and two, and that means I've watched two too many Fast and Furious films. I really don't like them. The movies are just irritatingly shallow and the characters are equally bland. I think anyone assuming people hate the film because it's too masculine have missed the point. The characters, to me, seem like a caricature of masculinity. They drive cars, and have muscles, and use short sentences, and whores! Look at all the whores they all have! They're men! Get it!? GET IT!? The characters are douchebags, because the people behind the film decided to use a bunch of cliches and checklist of 'manly things' as a replacement for masculine personalities. (Also I think it was Fast and Furious 2's commentary that featured the actors saying how little driving they actually did, and how most the time they were just sitting in a still car, which I got the feeling of before hand and- I mean whores! MEN! GET IT!? MANLY MEN!?)

It's a one-dimensional film and anyone who truly believes it otherwise is either lying to themselves or lacks the capacity to recognise anything better. You can enjoy its one-dimension, no problem, but there's really no point in pretending it's anything more.

My 2cents worth: I find racer fan girls to be some of the hottest women on the planet and they are the only reason i watch something like this.
For the record i still havent seen 4, i didnt even know there was a 4, now i know and there will be a 5. Will i watch them ? more then likely. will i watch them because "OMG ITS A F+F MOVIE !!" hell no.
But it also scares me how much money some peole have to burn on building cars like those in these movies :-/

I am Brazilian and I am deeply offended by the idea that Brazil is run by a single criminal. That couldn't be further from the truth. Anyone who bothers to study will learn that Brazil is run by several different criminals, and portrayals like this serve only to diminish our great criminal culture.

I actually quite liked this film, and I wasn't ever exactly a fan of the series. I saw it with a bunch of friends, and we just had a lot of fun sitting there and making stupid calls to each other. Sure, the film was shit, but it was at least semi-enjoyable shit that didn't take itself too seriously. Now, transformers, on the other hand...

I think the Fast and the furious movies with the original cast were always pretty good. The thing about these movies is they are not meant to be high brow movies. They're supposed to be fun action movies with speed and cars being the main Theme.

I think the only point Bobby has on this one that is valid is the fact that there are only 2 good car chases in over 2 hrs of movie. When I go to see a a movie about bank heists I expect to see a few over the course of the film. Case and point "The Town" is a perfect example of this.

but to have a 2 hr movie with a whole lot of nothing filler in the middle... yeah that's annoying. Let's see some badass car chases.

I don't know how many car scenes you wanted. There's plenty. Plus the final heist/chase goes on for a very long time.
