That is...bizarre.

As controversial as Bob could be at times, he still had 2 very popular weekly video segments and his Intermission column. Considering the loss of Jim relatively recently, this seems like a bizarre move by the Escapist. You can't build your entire business model around Zero Punctuation.

It's like someone is trying to shut this place down.

Right? First there was no reason to come here on Thursdays because they screwed-over the Extra Credits people (and no, reruns of Game Theory isn't enough). Then just recently there's been no reason to come here on Mondays. Now there's no reason to come here on Fridays, and I don't doubt that the reason to come here on Tuesdays isn't far behind that (the announcement on his blog made no mention of Big Picture, but I can't imagine Bob will keep it running any longer than he has to depending on the reasons and background drama behind canceling his Friday updates). I remember getting my premium subscription because I was coming here damn-near every day for content... a reason that's getting less and less true as they prune more and more of their content.

Dang. No one else comes here to see Feed Dump and Unsinkable? :/

Though, I guess their bigger fans probably go to their own site for that. Plus Youtube. <.<

Well, Yahtzee, the LRR crew, NoRightAnswer, and Critical Miss are still here at least.

I though Kingsmen sounded like a jolly good romp, but I could have done without the political slant and "everybody sucks" attitude, but that's Millar for ya. One of the biggest misanthropes in comic book writing.

I was half expecting Bob reviewing 50 Shades of Grey this week. It is far outside his comfort zone, and he most likely hates it on principle alone, but it is already poised to be the biggest cinematographic event this year (outside of the geek pop culture).

OT: I had no idea of this movie, but I will have to pay attention to it now. The Kickass movies are full of issues, but at least they are effective when it comes to indulging in guilty pleasures...

Its probably because he wanted to do a fun/good movie for his last Escape to the Movies here.

This film should have gone so much further.

Rather than just showing Obama's head getting popped they should have shown his family as well as the aftermath of everyone in the world going psycho for 15+ minutes. For instance kids and babies being killed in hospital maternity and day care centres as adults slaughter everything then after it wears off the mass suicides of people coming to there senses and finding themselves covered in their children's, other people's children or just other people's blood.

Sigh so much horror potential not used still a great film though.

I guess they didn't do that because it's not funny? Bob said this movie already has too many tonal shifts, so that would be straight-up gruesome. I don't think even Millar is that much of a sick, twisted individual to do that, which you just showed you are.

Bob finishes his time here at The Escapist by liking a movie that I think I might actually like too, how about that?!

He's said some truly horrendous, inconceivably toxic things to his own viewership over the course of the past six months... and I can't say I'm at all surprised to see him getting the boot... but there's definitely a part of me that's going to miss him. I don't watch reviews because I want someone to tell me if the movie is good or bad. I watch reviews to see someone I understand giving an honest opinion about a movie.

It's always been easy for me to tell when Bob's politics dictated whether or not he liked a movie, rather than his understanding of the cinema as an art form. I've also come to recognize which of Bob's personal likes and dislikes match up with my own... that's something that takes time to build up. A new movie-reviews guy on the site just isn't going to have that kind of a rapport.

Do I think it's a good thing he's gone. Definitely. His negativity has become a dividing force amongst his own viewership, and I think it's time for him to take a step back and start getting his house in order. Do I think he's a horrible human being deserving of ruin and despair? Of course not... I do wish him all the best. He's got a lot of wrong-headed ideas that I believe come from a place of good intention. Good intentions paved the road to hell, but I don't see any need to be the one to pound in the signs directing folks there.

I'll leave that up to those folks who feel much more strongly about the internet than I do.

Wow...*one* movie has an American villain and British good guys, and Bob can't handle it. The number of movies where American goodies wail on a British villain is frankly so high it's gone beyond cliché, but one that reverses it and it's a huge deal.

I thought it was a very enjoyable movie, well worth the watch.

To be fair it is part of a broader trend in British spy media. In many Spy based shows American characters almost exist entirely for us (the British) to be better than. Usually this is shown through the American characters being arrogant, self righteous, uncaring of others and patriotic to the extreme.

Not that I don't enjoy watching it.

Man I want to see a movie based on Seven Ancient Wonders novel! America (Representing the Freemasons) AND Europe (Representing the Catholic Church) are villains (who also oppose each other) while the heroes come from a wide-range of smaller nations such as Australia, UK, Middle-East, Canada, Spain, NZ etc. I wonder if there would be a backlash over a film version of that book. America needs to get off their 'throne' and realise that hey, some nations see America as villains (notably Asian countries) and that they shouldn't take movies too seriously, especially highly stylised movies like The Kingsman.

Between dumping Extra Credits for daring to get involved in off-site charity work, "captchas" that are just Skinner boxes designed to reward parroting marketing propaganda in exchange for being allowed to participate in the community (something that I have literally never seen another site stoop to) as well as being necessary for even registered users in good standing (another thing no other site would ever stoop to), charging money to make videos work on iPads, plastering shameless clickbait links under every article that may as well read "TITS! You don't even care what this article's about; you're going to click on it anyway because TITS!", and finally, lest we forget, giving a platform to some of the most openly toxic supporters of Gamergate, this site has proven time and time again how hopelessly corrupt it and the people who run it are, and the sooner it's left a smoking husk of its former self, the better. Crossing my fingers that Yahtzee grows a pair and follows suit. He, Bob, Jim, and the Extra Credits guys could join forces with the people Channel Awesome mercilessly fired and start their own mega-site.

The thing is, none of them need to. With other websites and platforms for payments existing out there, they have a whole lot of options for floating on as single entities on the great boat of the internet. It's a damn shame what's happening on this site, but if that's the way it's going, then fuck it. It's not worth losing sleep over.

Glad the movie is good. I've been looking forward to seeing this for a long time. With that said, I've watched the last "Escape to the Movies" and read the last "Intermission", I'm done. With the firings from a couple of weeks ago to this I now have no reason to visit this site anymore. Good riddance, while I feel sorry for the people that work here, I will enjoy watching this ship sink.

I couldn't help but notice that there was no video transcript with a star rating at the bottom for this video. It is also the only video in a few months whose subtitle is ambiguous about MovieBob's opinion of the movie. I can't help but feel this is not a coincidence.

That may be because this is his last episode.

That's Matthew Reilly isn't it? Because I swear that guy writes books like Michael Bay makes movies, though for some reason I find his books hit way, way more than they miss. I'll never forget 'Temple' where the archaeologist disarms the nuclear, world killing bomb. Inside a tank. That's in free-fall.

I appreciate being able to check in on a single site every day or so and see what's new, not to mention having a single forum instead of having to register a dozen different accounts just to discuss episodes or put up with unmoderated, anonymous comment sections that are always 90% trolls. That's what I appreciated about Channel Awesome too.

as much as bob frequently pissed me off, and as annoyed as i was at his "sometimes i have a boston accent, but not always" voice, i still found myself watching most of his reviews. more than once he pissed me off to the point where i swore i'd never watch again.

that being said, i'd love if all the talent this site has let slip over the years (Jim, Bob, EC, Lisa Foiles...) team up with Yahtzee and go make their own site. i've been a near daily visitor to this site since 2008, and when i wanted to comment on a ZP video, i made an account in 2009. slowly and steadily i feel as though i've seen the soul of this site stripped out.

my biggest pet peeve on this site is the fact that there are spelling and grammar errors on nearly every article any more. i notice them immediately. do contributors not proof-read? do the articles not go to the editor first? and if so, why are they missing these glaring errors?

another problem is over-zealous mods. before here, i was a frequent poster on GameFAQS, and hated how censored and moderated it all was, treating it's users like children. but then i found here, a site where i could talk about bad gameplay features and feel free to say "fuck that shit!" if i so chose. but then the mods came in harder and harder.

first they came for the low content posters, and i did not speak up because i was not a low content poster.
then they came for the trolls, and i did not speak up because i was not a troll.
then they came for me. and there was no one left to speak for me.
