you know the movie that originally came up with this entire premise
except it was a musical
and starred the chick from spy-kids

I'm confused. Do you mean give it a pass as in, "I'm skipping this one" or as in, "It doesn't fail"? If the former, how can you skip a film that you apparently have already seen (what with the seeing the ending coming and all). I'll assume you already know the reason for my confusion with the latter, (what with the seeing the ending coming and all).
As in the former, not the latter. I actually haven't seen it, but I figured out the ending after a few whiffs from the trailer and some other little things here and there. The whole thing just carried more of a "Dark corporate satire" vibe than a "Resistance against control" vibe, and after making sure my assumptions were indeed correct, I decided that Repo Men wasn't really worth me seeing-- maybe in the future when I forget what I know (and what fantastic dark corporate satire they referenced with the ending) and I can watch it for free, but not right now, in any case, and maybe not ever.

It's not that I have anything against the movie's content, but my policy is this: I'm willing to go as far as a movie will lead me, but if the ending's no good, then essentially I followed it for however long only to have it deliver a weak payoff. A good ending can elevate the worst movies and turn some okay movies into classics, but a crappy ending can sink even the best of movies.

ALL I can think about whenever I see an ad for this movie is that song from Repo! The Genetic Opera.

[small]It's a thankless job, but somebody's got to do it!
Peelin' of the the tissue inch by inch,
Skinnin' off the muslces, too!

Harvestin' the kidnies for the fall!
Savin' up the livers in the fridge!
No one ever thanks me when I'm done,
How self-absorbed people can be!

With a slice or a snip,
Eenie-meenie-miney-mo!
With a cut, and a stitch,
Returning organs brand-new!

It's a thankless job, but somebody's got to do it!
Like a mop, and a broom,
No one likes a thankless job![/small]

I should try and sneak a boombox into the theater with me if I go, just so I can play this song really loudly during the first surgery scene and see how people react.

I'm glad people have done the whole "it's a rip-off of The genetic opera' thing as I find it a bit suspicious - or just dismissive - that this guy didn;t mention anything about it in his review since he goes on about all the other films it;s ripped off. Yeah, i agree, and I prefer the genetic opera to any big-name knock-off with all the charm of a republican with crippling syphillis and a case of halitosis.

At least they haven't nicked our beloved 'little glass vial'! :) x

Nice OldBoy reference, another movie no one has ever seen. Quentin tried so hard to get that movie the top prize at Cannes, but Fahrenheit 911 won. A movie with a strange disturbing plot with devoted performances loses to a documentary merely because most of the world at the point was anti George Bush. "Give to Moore because we hate Bush too!"

Ah, yes, Oldboy. I liked the claustrophobic fight scene in the revenge hotel, but again, the ending bothered me. Not the big reveal, mind you, just what happened after. I was hoping for something a load more brutal and satisfying, though the ending did fit and I liked it. I was just...bothered.

I have to disagree with the notion that the protagonist in District 9 joined the other side (i.e. the Prawns).

He was in it for himself the entire time he had known what was happening to him. At no point did he ever give a damn about the Prawns outside of what they could do for him.

Still, best episode of the Twilight Zone I've ever seen.

Oh yeah...the fuggin' Twilight Zone.

"AVATAR IS JUST A RIPOFF OF POCAHONTAS!!!"

These kind of comments never flew around with MovieBob's Avatar review, so why are they flying around now?

Anyway. I saw the Movie, and it was good. Not great. Just good.

It could have been great, but the thing about the movie that bothered me the most was... Well, the sex/surgery scene. Totally out of place, totally pointless, and the music that played during the whole thing made me feel like I should have been doing the Tango with my pals.

I'll admit I haven't seen either film but I've looked up the plot to both of them and, aside from the premise, the 2 plots are different.

Meh. If anything, the only reason I'd see this movie is for the knife fight. The sex scene wouldn't sell it for me. Hell, since I saw The Genetic Opera first, seeing repo men ripping people's guts out without the singing just doesn't sit well. It's like how I have a bit of trouble watching West Side Story after watching The Warriors. It just doesn't sit too well on the brain. So, this one I might give a pass until later.

Well for the most part I agree but remember he did stay behind to fight off the Mercs so that Christopher and his son could escape, he could have gone with them but he chose to remain behind, it was sort of self sacrifice.
I thought he kind of redeemed himself at the end by performing a great personal sacrifice to save another.

I agree with you, but...unfortunately any more explanation here would be a serious spoiler. All I will say is that the best intentions are often born from selfish desires. I will say no more...

Just watched this film and it is fucking amazing. Yeh it is very similar to Equilibrium but I'd argue that it does it better, I found Equilibrium unbearable to watch at some points, those points being where Christian Bale tried to act being emotional, which didn't work at all. Jude Law on the other hand, did it very very well.

Repo: The Genetic Opera was so much better than you give it credit for in your latest review. I'm actually listening to the soundtrack right now :)

Repo! The Genetic Opera > Repo Men. The only thing that bothers me is that there is going to be a inevitable influx of "Repo! stole from Repo Men" even though Repo! came out first and did it better.
