Story is okay enough to see as movie itself, but he hits it right with how well the two characters shine in this movie. Regardless of the plot, see this for the depiction of Sherlock Holmes and Watson, best ever in my opinion!

Meh. I was never really convinced that Downey was Holmes, as opposed to Robert Downey Jr. in Victorian England. It was kind of disappointing. Also, there is a lot of stupid symbolism that I won't get into because of what people consider spoilers.
And was I the only other person in the world who caught onto the whole Holmes=House thing? It was kind of obvious to me.

Nice review, light on the spoilers and heavy on the information I wanted to know: Do RDJ and Jude Law pull of one of the best detective teams of all time? I'm very happy the answer appears to be 'Yes'. My wife and I will be hard pressed to decide between seeing this and Avatar.

We picked up on the House thing as well. Because we both - my wife especially - love, love, love us some House.

I cant watch it. I just cant bring myself to watch it. I cant imagine Sherlock Holmes being an action hero in some buddy cop dick waggling bull shit. Just blargh... I am sure its not a bad movie just I have unexplainable resent for it.

Yea I guess I am a Holmes fanboy. The stories are just so interesting to me and yes I am just bad mouthing the thing because it goes against what I want to see in a Holmes movie. Just I always have viewed Holmes as a more quiet man who would defuse a situation rather then watch it blow up. I just cant bear to see Holmes in a movie where I am assuming there are one liners (I dont know this for sure dont yell at me) plus explosions and a lot of fighting. It just isnt Sherlock Holmes to me.

Holmes isnt really about action its about method and deduction. The point of it is a mystery, a story wherein you have an impossible circumstance and it is explained logically. There isnt explosions and senseless fighting.

Bleh yes I am just being a little Sherlockian fanboy but you know what its been a favorite of mine since I was just a kid.

Random fact: when they killed off Sherlock Holmes the Strand Magazine lost around 2,500 readers.

I think what he ment by the two batmans was
how the chick dies. Maybe she dies in this one too

It's a horrible adaptation of Holmes. It's an American action flick pretending to be something the director had no idea about. Usually I agree with Moviebob, but definitely not now.
I have to agree with this even though I haven't seen ANY of the originals but it wasn't bad, it just isn't anything great or special, just like everything else these days.

No, it was about the obvious sequel.

I mean, why else would they introduce Moriarty, even though he had no direct effect on the plot?

You know, at the end of Begins all signs point to a Joker sequel, which in turn was incredibly successful. Strangely, he didn't mention Casino Royale as it did the same at its finale, although Quantum of Solace was nowhere near as good as the first.

Hmmm, well, its been that I'd thought it'd be - I presumed they'd just taking a Sherlock Holmes theme and pasted it over Generic Action Movie #1200232159.

Might be worth seeing, I think.

Interesting. I thought Holmes was addicted to heroin tho. And I don't have that confused with Robert Downy Jr. haha

Eh, I guess I will see this if anyone wants to go with. Although i am curious about the relation between the batman movies... I'll be thinking about that one

Seriously this is Dr House as a movie. They should have casted Hugh Laurie as Holmes since he has a great deal of experience with playing ... well Holmes/House.

Ditto.
I also don't get Moviebob's comment about how Downey's Holmes is first explore the undiagnosed OCD side in him. Humbug!

It was cocaine, mostly. Heroin was a new drug back then (I believe) and there was also a higher chance of accidental overdose. However drug usage wasn't such a big deal in the Victorian age. It was frowned upon; a rather common vice among the irresponsible men.

The video pauses for me as well, around 3:24. And before any smug jerks ask if I "refreshed the page", I'm going to bring them through my own little exercise in deductive reasoning.

Fact 1: I am not an idiot.
Fact 2: My job involves working with computers.
Therefore, we can deduce Fact 3: YES I KNOW HOW TO WORK A COMPUTER, PLEASE DON'T POST UNHELPFUL, CONDESCENDING, PATRONIZING BS IN RESPONSE.

Sometimes you can judge a book by its cover. I saw the trailer and from that I got pretty much the same impression as from watching this review.

Loved the reference to Encyclopedia Brown. Good to know I'm not the only person who remembers that series.

I love how many people are making the connection to Holmes and House now. Really people its been out for some time and some people did not make that click. It amazes me that some people do not read an analyze in this world. In any case, good review I am kinda disappointed that the plot didn't come through...I might as well see it for the characterization. :D

Really looking forward to this movie and it's about time Sherlock was given some mainstream movie attention isn't of all the sub par made for TV movies.
Last time I watched a good Sherlock Holmes movie, Basil Rathbone played him.
