Ok... you got my interest. What's the synopsis of the Six String Samurai? I never saw it.
Alternate History post-nuke action comedy - think "Fallout" as a spoof, basically: At some point in the 50s, the Soviets nuke the U.S. into a wasteland. What's left of American civilization survived in Las Vegas, where Elvis Presley was made (literal) King. However many years later, The King dies of natural causes and rock musicians from across the wasteland make their way to Vegas to try and claim the crown. Main story follows one rocker in particular, who's guitar conceals a samurai sword and who becomes protector to a little kid "Lone Wolf & Cub"-style.
Ok, that's defensively interesting... wait a minute [Run to store... really did.]

They don't make dvds of that film anymore. It's has share the same fate as The Guyver movie with Mark Hamil.

Edit: At least i saw most of Hitchcock movie Including THE BIRDS.

I am with MovieBob on this. "The Birds" is one of the most underrated Alfred Hitchcock movies ever made, and it's brilliant in its pacing and build up. Great choice there.
I have often found myself wondering if someone would remake that film just so that they could use CGI or even green screen to put more that two types of birds in it. Really the only fault I could find in that film.
Michael Bay has the rights to remake it.
...
Expect an entire hour of John Turturro explaining how the birds became mad because of an asteroid crash and the US Army siding with eagles armed with rocket launchers. Explosive birds will not be featured to avoid PETA from interciding.
Wait, you forgot the best PART, they show the last Human on earth posing before the setting sun with a eagle on his shoulder and going in the sunset. And then during the credit, we see a army of crow following them with a ominous music. THAT WILL BE... sorry, i can't write that with a strait face.

Day of the Triffids (particularly the recent multi-part BBC remake) is genuinely unsettling and scary

Why?

Because of all the panicky blind people, the first half plays out like an old Zombie film (shambling type). Why's that scary? These aren't zombies, these are normal people who suddenly find themselves blind, and they panic. The scene in the remake where armed policemen are trying to defend the gates of 10 Downing street from terrified, panicky mobs looking for help is MORTIFYING, because both parties are blind, armed and confused. It's really scary to see society pull itself apart with fear

The plants are also scary. Oh God the plants...

The production company wouldn't allow Michael Bay to use crows in order to escape all possible accusations of racism. Also, I forgot to mention the 350.765 shots of helicopters in the sunset with birds running behind them. And the US President will be played by Jon Voight.

thanks for the 6 string samurai and i love the world as we know it.

I think an apocalyps isn't the end but just the beginning.

Personally I loved Road Warrior, as for the "I am Legend", Will Smith's was good (In my opinion). As for weird apocalypses, I like the Zombie apocalypse the most!
I too at first thought the will smith movie was good and it is if yoou look at it all by itself. but if you compare it in anyway to Richard mathesons masterpiece of a novel it looks like a steaming pile of shit. The only redeaming quality is the alternate ending.

Yeah, the reason I dont like most Apocalypse movies is because they are about the events of a natural disaster, which is why I hated The Day After Tomorrow

I think it is a little bit of both, an end to a beginning.

Yust like how the big bang created the world, my old teacher used to say "every end is a beginning (and vice versa)"

Nice way to input that end of the world R.E.M. song. I'm sure when the end is here we'll be so scared that we wont even care what happens to everyone else.

My nomination for most weirdest Apocalyptic movie is Hell Comes To Frog Town.

Hmmm, well I'm kind of surprised with the comment about movie makers not ending the world with angels and demons or anything that cool.

I mean we just had "Legion" which admittedly didn't do all that well, then before that we of course had the "Prophecy" movies, and of course while it isn't Hollywood we had "Neon Genesis Evangelion".

To be fair, film makers have gone there.

I've never seen The Birds, but I do remember an episode of the Simpsons from Season 4 that had an homage to what I believe is the final scene from the movie, only instead of birds, it's many many babies in a daycare sucking on pacifiers. To top it off, there was a great homage to The Great Escape in that same episode. It was called A Streetcar Named Marge. It's great.

My favorite is a classic Japanese adult anime called "A Wind Named Amnesia." Only 1 man on earth retains his memories before the wind swept through. He teaches a young man he meets about humanity before he dies. That man bumps into a woman who also seems to have all of her shit together, so they travel looking for others. They encounter people who have regreesed into a cromagnon-like state of mind who warship a machine & a city that seems to be populated entirely by clones of 2 people.

There's also Grave of the Fireflies. That's a really sad end of days anime that will make you go through a box of tissues easily.

Yay more Movie Bob

OT:Has any one seen "A Boy and His Dog" it's a strange film with a telepathic dog set in some post-apocalyptic future. Had a quite creepy ending.
Creepy? No, it's a perfectly sensible ending, and given the film, completely fitting. I stand by my assertion that A Boy and His Dog is, fundamentally, a movie about love, which happens to be told in really awesome post-apocalyptic dark humour fashion. (I loved that movie.)

Six-String Samurai was disappointing. It wasn't bad; but it wasn't completely amazing like I was expecting it to be, given the premise (rock&roll + katanas + post-apocalyptic setting). It started well, and has good ideas, but doesn't execute them all that well. Most of the fights were pretty poor too (barring goofy shifting anamorphic intro and the bowling team fight); there's also only one guitar duel (one of the best ideas for guitarist-swordsman duality), and it's over in about 10 seconds. It was still alright, but don't go in thinking it will be one of the best movies you'll ever see (I am sad).
