You're absolutely right, disliking the Transformers movies DOESN'T make you a snob. Stating that anyone who DOES is therefore a moron who is a danger to themselves and should be locked up for the good of society, DOES.

And for the record, I thought the movie was surprisingly good, it had its moments of 'oh dear, Spielberg clearly let Bay make that bit on his own' but I still actually enjoyed the movie as a pure silly actionfest.

The first 2 though... NO.

Isn't Battlefield L.A. pretty much exactly that? If the xenos transformed it could be called Transformers Side Story because it'd be Transformers minus Sam.

So, people who like movies you don't shouldn't be allowed to vote? Wow. That's almost as bad as saying people who enjoy certain kinds of hip hop are a good reason for legalized abortion.

I didn't think it was possible to have this much bile for people who share different tastes than your own.
When Bob is objective, his reviews are generally pretty good, otherwise you would get a better review from a blind monkey than listen to any of his nonsense.
well for the most part I agree with you though Yahtzee DOES cross the line a bit himself at times such as calling a game 'a s**t game for t**ts' though somehow the way he does it comes across more as a satirical shot at the game than a directed and GENUINE insult.

Went to see the movie last night and just watched the review today, as I didn't want anything being spoiled.

I enjoyed the movie for what it was and I can take it for what it is. I accept that this passes as entertainment and that it doesn't push any barriers. That's not what Bay does, he gives you a popcorn movie.

I am glad that it's come to an end though. And it sure would've been nice if the movies tied in better, but the ride was enjoyable and now I can wait for Captain America to come out.

Yep. I'm gonna offer my two cents too. Otherwise I wouldn't be living up to my username.

I really liked the first movie. I'll take as much crap as you can give me for that, but at the end of the day, it was stupid, overflowing with human characters we care nothing about, and just a lot of fun. I really liked the designs of the transformers, though everyone else seems to hate them. They were visually interesting, commanding the attention of the audience every time they were on screen. The action sequences were fun, and weren't too cluttered with American flags and explosions like any other Bay movie. It was bad, but enjoyably so.

The second one (I assume) wanted to see what they could get away with while still getting their investment. THEY WENT TOO DAMN FAR. In my opinion, this is the worst movie I've ever watched, and I've seen Human Centipede and The Room. Don't get me wrong, the visuals were great and the actors weren't atrocious, but this movie insulted me to be human, let alone the target audience for this sort of crap. The toilet humor was disgusting, the misogynist undertones felt like overtones, and, from a fanboy aspect, they didn't use a lot of the characters well, like Soundwave, who barely did anything in the THIRD movie, too. I hated everything from John Turturro taking off his pants two inches away from camera to Demolisher's testicles to Wheelie humping Megan Fox's leg to Jetfire farting out a parachute to the twins simply EXISTING to... you know, I have too long a list. I'm going to leave it there. I was disgusted that people were laughing at this movie in the theater I was in. I was appalled that they clapped at the end. The plot had massive holes in it (how did the government cover up the transformers if an ENTIRE CITY WAS DESTROYED BY THEM IN THE FIRST MOVIE?), all the women in the cast were misused (Megan Fox, depicted as a slut, Isabel Lucas, much of the same, Julie White, depicted as a bimbo, Arcee, the only female transformer, got like two lines before DYING), and the whole thing had the humor of a five year old.

Sorry. Bit of a rant there.

Anyway, Dark of the moon was better, if only because they didn't dwell in the immaturity of the second. The best part was the plot twist (which I won't spoil), but even that would have been better (biggest complaint coming in) if the TRANSFORMERS WERE THE STARS OF THEIR OWN MOVIE. The transformers need to be more developed, we can't just live by stereotypes and what other characters say about them.

Also, I really liked Mirage in this one. Don't know who Mirage is? Neither did I until I looked it up because they only say their names once in the beginning at the lowest volume in a Michael Bay movie EVER.

Last complaint: When McDreamy came onscreen, I wanted to leave the theater. WHY IS HE HERE?! THERE'S NO POINT!

Everything Bob hates about this movie I hate, so I won't sound like a broken record. Not as great, in my book, but easily weaker than the first.

Wow, that's a long post. Hope I made this a little interesting to read.

Saw it tonight. It fucking sucked so hard.

Spoilers: Hey, remember when you were like 6yrs old and you treasured Transformers and saw the film at the theatre and were, within minutes, horrified when Prowl, Rachet, Wheeljack (my fucking favourite) and finally Iron Hide (my second favourite) were executed by a multitude of Decepticons attempting to hijack a shuttle on the way to Autobot City?

Well thanks to Ehren Kruger and Michael Bay you can relive that moment of childhood trauma when Sentinel Prime kills Iron Hide. FUCK YOU EHREN KRUGER. Why the fuck did it have to be Iron Hide? You don't even name half the fucking Autobots in the film but it had to be Iron Hide? Kiss my ass! There was absolutely no need for him to be shot again and then seen rusting to death either. Assholes.

Yeah, so I'm a nerd but those guys are dicks.

I will say this once. I LOVED THE FILM but am willing to give Michael Bay a spanking for the overtly militaristic fetishism presented in this film. I came to see robots fight.

Why? Because they make shitloads of money, that's why. And while I'm not a huge fan of the movies I have to admit the best way to make a profitable Transformers movie it's to make it as little about Transformers as possible. I mean, why cater to it's small fanbase when you can make a movie about the US Army, cars and explosions?
But it's not ABOUT cars and explosions half the bloody time, which returns to the root of "it's the same thing as the last few, warts and all"! If the "fans" of the series were slightly more hypercritical we could see marked improvements with each franchise while maintaining the "brainless fun" aspect the films are meant to be focusing on. I like explosions! And cars! And, often, yes, the US army! Those things are cool and they make money! It's what's selling the films!

...so why do we care about racist stereotypes, boring teen dramas, and government conspiracies? I mean, the robots-cars-explosions basically becomes the sub-sub-plot underneath the crust of Shia LeBouf acting like a twat. If Bay had gotten the note from the first movie - humans boring, robots cool - I'd be fine, but he's just rehashing the same movie with slightly different settings, selling tickets because people who like cars-explosions-army are loving the 30 minutes which actually predominantly features cars-explosions-army and is leaving the slightly more critical fanbase who came to see cars-explosions-army with a dry taste in their mouth.

At the start of the film when they introduced those little supposedly comedic robot sidekicks. I was just facepalming in the theater and nearly walked out since it was just crap.

The last hour is straight to straight fights explosions and robots fighting. But after a while you get tired of it. The last 20 minutes I was wondering when the movie would freaking end. And when it ended it was pretty abrupt. They were fighting and 15 seconds later the credits rolled.

The fact that Victoria Model 237 (I cant be arsed to look up her name) convinced Megatron that he has manhood issues is just terrible. These are supposed godlike beings you could atleast expect that Megatron figures it out himself that he would be Senitel's ***** forever. Shockwave also was way more powerful then any Decepticon or Autobot in the movie. And I still cant figure out how he can be under Megatron/Senitel's control.

I enjoyed the second part and the first part was random crap like the previous movies. Yes its better then the second one. Doesnt take a while its still a big pile of shit with a few good 3D action scenes.

You're right, Bob. Not quite as big a styeaming pile of crap as the last one should NOT be misconstrued as "good," which seems to be the pattern here. Bay's lowered so many expectations that even "awful" is considered a step up.

Well I saw the movie (out with friends, I voted X-Men but lost and wasn't going to be an arsehole about it) and it's OK, in the endgame anyway. Way too long and has moments that confuse me.
The three big things that confuse me are
1- Why hide on the moon?
2- Why not just nuke the city before they warp in cybertron? We have more nukes than they have guns, it should not be an issue to blow it away if regular misses can get in.
3- How did the autobots get captured during the final fight? Is that shown and everybody I saw the move with missed it or what? This is driving me insane, how did they get caught? What the fuck happened? The more I think on it the more the movie annoys me.

I'll never understand why people waste their time with something they already don't like. Really what are you trying to prove by bashing a movie/franchise you already have a low opinion of?

Personally, I saw it with my son and it was awesome, we enjoyed it a lot, just like we enjoyed the previous two. There are a few things as cool as watching a kid enjoy Sci-Fi (remember, just like we used too before we became too cool for the room! Remember? People used to make fun of us for enjoying the same things we?re BASHING now!)

Then, I saw it again with my wife, guess what, she loved it and I had a good time seeing it again, can't wait for the bluray later this year.

I doubt Bob actually reads these threads, or cares, but I'm truly one of those people who values his reviews. But he quit reviewing these movies a long time ago and uses his exposure for some ridiculous vendetta against them and their creator(s).

At first it was hilarious, then it got a little old. At this point it's just sad and boring. So now we're retards for liking this franchise, that's fine. You'll be happy to know Bob, we decided not to drive to the theater and instead rode the NYC subway. Phew, I say?

I agree with most of this. I don't think it was the worst movie ever, but the bullshit at the beginning was just bull shit. I'm not movie critic and I could realize that the plot was copy-paste from the last two. That's just lazy.

With that said. I did enjoy the first one. Maybe it was because my expectations were extremely low, maybe I was in a really good mood at the time, but I enjoyed that movie. I thought it was acceptable to have the whole kid finds the robots sequences in the beginning because it had some decent hype before showing off Optimus and some of the other Autobots and I could accept one bull shit plot about a giant cube thing, just once is enough. That's where it should have ended though. From there on out, it should have been more robots, less Shia, and less basic plot sequences.

I respect what they tried to do with the third movie where "Everybody has a role", that's fine, but don't make that a must. I don't need to see the attractive girl tell Megatron he's going to be a *****. There are so many unnecessary scenes in the movie that could have been done much better. I wish there would have been enough action in the first parts to make me say "I'm going to turn my brain off and be amazed" but there wasn't, which made me take the movie seriously and have more trouble telling myself, "Oh this is just an enjoyable action flick" later on.

Overall, good review.

I just saw it tonight. And yeah I gotta feel sorry for you Bob, I'm sure it's tiring watching crappy action flicks all the time. But the other 99.9% of us don't really care about quality as much as we care about entertainment because this isn't our job-- it's what we're doing to kick-back.

And yeah it's infinitely better than the second movie. The first one is still my favourite of the three (and is still one of my favourite movies ever). This one has the best fight scenes though since they somehow magically made it so the robot-versus-robot fighting didn't look like a giant clusterf*ck. Dunno how they did it, but they did.

The thing that pissed me off about this movie though is how Carly, Sam's girlfriend, was written. She had absolutely no purpose in the entire movie. I mean, I don't get why Sam liked her and it blows my mind that he would sacrifice so much for her. "I'm gonna run into that super-heavily-guarded fortress filled with evil, giant robots to save her"-- WHY?! And literally the only good thing she did in the entire movie was convince Megatron to attack Sentinel... which the movie could have EASILY done without her.

I don't regret seeing it, but I'm definitely glad that the movie series is over. At least it ended on a "meh" note instead of a "shit" note.

These things are massive successes because people like them. It's at the heart of the big, dumb action movie and there's just about no one who hasn't fallen in love with more than a few of them. Go check out Bob's review of G.I. Joe and declares it better than the last dozen Bond movies despite it not having a coherent plot or actors taking the premise even slightly seriously.

These movies are aimed at the 13 year old in all of us who want to see explosions, boobs, and fast cars. And Bay has the technical skill to make his shallow offerings quite fun if you can look past the silly characters, lame humor, and nonsensical plots. His action sequences are inventive and no one blends CG and practical effects better than him. Once more, everything he does translates well to foreign movies... even, oddly enough, his military fetish as he seems to glorify the soldier moreso than the government behind them.

You can tell I am a Transformers fan with Soundwave as my avatar. :D I might as well offer my two cents on the Michael Bay films.

I love the first Transformers film. It is stupid fun. The effects were good, there were very few robots to make it all a mess and I'm one of the few people who liked the comedy. The last half hour of the first film was great, but it had a really poor fight with Optimus and Megatron.

Transformers Revenge of the Fallen was crap. In my opinion. But it has more explosions, it has more sexual appeal, it has more robots, and it was just boring! The effects took a step back, this looked like a cartoon. The Fallen was a boring character, and his name is in the damn title. The twins I don't think I need to talk about, they were terrible.

This one wasn't as bad, but yes that doesn't make it a good movie. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was a lot better than Megan Fox and I actually liked Sentinel Prime, but its the same story as the last two, its the same explosions and its the same abrupt ending. The massive fight in the city at the end was fun, but it got overwelming. Why did we need a sequel to the first Transformers in the first place if it was just going to be a rehash done twice.

I would've liked to see the Transformers get a lot more development and are made into interesting characters without the action taking over too much. G1, Beast Wars, Animated and Prime are my favourite Transformers cartoons because the robots were interesting. I guess these movies appeal to people because of the action alone, and thats fine but three movies of stuff blowing up is too much to me really.

Sigh, Well what can I expect? I actually liked it. I loved the jokes, and the fast talking scenes.

Pretty good movie overall.

Oh right, Okay, Nevermind. You know what. I'm done watching these, all he does is hate hate hate everything he sees.

OBVIOUSLY just because YOU think that movies are crap doesn't mean people agree with you. But I digress, you are a film critic, just like Yahtzee is a game critic.

Oh what the heck, I guess there's no reason not to speak my mind on this. First things first, I enjoy these movies for what they are: mindless fun with some cheap laughs thrown in. I've never had anything against Shia Lebouf or Michael Bay himself, though I am very tired of his obsession with the U.S military and, for that matter, America in general. (I hate excessive patriotism) However, by no means will I defend these movies from their numerous critics. I understand how some might be offended by racial stereotypes, I can even understand how some would find these boring despite the constant attempts at action, and I can especially understand why long time Transformers fans would loathe these movies. I never gave a crap about the franchise as a kid, but if someone were to make a movie about TMNT or Pokemon and gave them this kind of treatment, I know I'd most likely be pissed. These are most definitely stupid movies.

That said, I think it's time for everyone on both sides of the argument to stop with the elitism. While I don't know if Bob was being serious in this video, I'm sick of being called stupid just for liking some movies. I'm sick of people acting like it's a crime against nature to pay money for these movies, I'm sick of the constant talking down and insults. Don't worry, it's not just the haters, I can say a lot of the same things for the people defending the movies too. But folks, that's just it. At the end of the day, these are just movies. They're not a sign of the apocalypse, they're not a sign that humanity is getting collectively dumber, they're not poisoning anyone's minds, they're not ruining cinema as an art form, and no one sensible is saying these movies should be nominated for a fucking oscar. This is the thing about geek culture I have never liked: as soon as something critics deem bad becomes popular, it suddenly becomes the worst thing on the planet and forever corrupts the audience it's popular with. It's exactly what has happened with Transformers and anything aimed at tween girls (Twilight, Bieber, etc). Never mind that we constantly defend video games from those exact same remarks coming from ignorant parents and politicians, these things have low scores on Rotten Tomatoes, dammit!
