I know there have to be some people on this site who watch Fox...why do you? Is it for comedic purposes, or do you consider it a legitimate news source?
It is a legitimate news source, it's just the only major news sources that tends to have a more right wing spin, as such it's hated by the left wing. Given that the left wing controls most of the rest of the media, and doesn't really like the opposing viewpoint, what mistakes Fox makes are more frequently broadcast, and more people are looking to jump on them. Given the huge left wing prescence on this site, Fox news hatred is pretty much the standard.

I don't consider Fox perfect, far from it, but I tend to appreciate it's existance even if I don't agree with it on anything. The other major news networks make just as many mistakes and are just as biased in their own way, I can't consider them more accurate.

In the end I tend to feel that the truth of most matters tends to be somewhere between Fox and the other news networks. I think ALL of the televised news is about political spin nowadays and thus none of it is unbiased and accurate

Of course then again I am one of the very few vocal right wingers on this site, and overall I'm kind of middle of the road since I go left on a few issues. My opinion probably doesn't surprise anyone.

As a side note I believe the media in the civilized world is actually better ar reporting the antic of celebrities than actual news and world events.... and I mean this almost universally, not just in the US.

I always find this talk hilarious. Everyone claims how terrible Fox is and all the bad things it does but in the end, it really is the most fair and balanced. Just don't take my word for it.

Most people get mixed up between the Fox News part and the Opinion parts of the channel.

Because I've got this study [http://www.journalism.org/analysis_report/cr]

And a few choice quotes on the subject [http://pearlyabraham.tripod.com/htmls/media-quotes.html] which all say that you're not telling the truth.

But feel free to provide credible evidence to the contrary.

I honestly have no idea.
Hell, the Daily Show is a comedy show that doesn't bother to check facts and it's STILL more accurate (and entertaining) than FOX

Is the opposite of

a legitimate news Outlet.

Fox News is terrible. American news, in general, is pretty terrible, but FOX is REALLY terrible.

Yes. Political Commentators have a responsibility to check their facts to a reasonable degree, the same as any newspaper editorial

As someone mentioned, Fox News is not legally allowed to call itself 'news' in Canada because it doesn't pass muster for fairness.

Are all news biased? To some degree, however that doesn't excuse a news program for being bad.

Do a search for 'Fox News Investigative Reporting.' Now do a search for 'CNN Investigative Reporting.' 'NBC Investigative Reporting.' 'ABC Investigative Reporting.'

When a news network does not HAVE an investigative reporting division, they are bad. There's no news to be found there. Nothing of value. Move along, because they're only going to report what real journalists are looking into.

The existance of bias does not excuse a lack of journalistic integrity, a lack of journalistic investigation, a lack of deep reporting that you DO get on things like the BBC, canadian news outlet, and pretty much anywhere that actually takes the world seriously.

They selll opinions. They package them, give them a fancy name like 'doctor' or 'expert', fill in the opinion themselves and just let it run.
I'm exaggerating the matter a bit, but you get the gyst of it, do you?

Look at it this way, Fox News is perceived as unbelievably biased, or fair and balanced, because most people watch the news during the primetime slots. Fox, like CNN and MSNBC, air thier editorial programs between the hours of seven and midnight Eastern Time. on Fox this is your Bill O'Reiley, Hannity and Combs etc. Note on MSNBC Keith Olberman was in this timeslot and his Bias is perfectly clear.

Fox broadcasts prior to the Prime Time Hours are no more biased of full of crap then either of the other two cable networks, and all three are paragons of unbiased reporting when compared to foreign journalism like the BBC, Al Jazeria etc. If Anything Fox deserves some credit during their daytime broadcasting because they will ask questions the other won't on topics of the day.

anyone who thinks for even one second that ANY news source is without bias

anyone who thinks that any newspapers and TV (or other source) news have no agenda that they push

anyone who thinks that reporters never push their own opinions as fact and truth or make mistakes or lie outright

anyone who thinks that media companies don't choose (based on opinion and politics) the spin, content and even which stories are deemed "important" for the news to air

and especially

anyone who thinks that THEY themselves are unbiased

you are lying to yourself and you need to pay more attention

FOX news is not any more biased than any other news source. People only regard sources such as CNN and the BBC to be less biased because the bias of those sources falls in line with their own bias. Therefore, because they AGREE with it, they find it easier to ignore the mistakes and opinions presented as fact and the lies and deliberate propaganda and the biased editing and everything else that media companies and reporters do to control your opinions.

the news is not in the business of presenting facts and/or truth.
It is in the business of controlling people through their opinions.

However one wonders if the OP actually has a purpose in asking this question (i.e. a quest for knowledge) or if this is just more bullshit. I expect it is the latter but let us see how this goes before I pass judgment.
Alright, I can see where you're coming from with the legitimacy, but why not go to BBC, or some news source that isn't as biased?
Because it's still biased, and biased in a way that doesn't suit my political alignment.

Actually, I'm Canadian and don't watch TV. But you get the point.

I like Bill O'Rilly. He might be the most honest commentator out there. Note, I did not say completely honest JUST the most honest (Like the most honest thief, or the most honest car sales man.). Now, I am including all media outlets CNN, MSNBC, and FOX. I try to watch CNN and Fox (MSNBC just pisses me off since Rachele Murdock and the FT. Hood attacks, I will not go into details here).
He may be honest, but he also claims we don't know what causes the tides. Apparently, he's never heard of the moon.

FOX outright lies.

That's why I don't watch them.
You get your facts from the Daily Show? It didn't exactly score well in the list of stations shown in the beginning. As a matter of fact, he joked about Fox scoring only slightly better than them.

I do not watch Fox news and likely never will. I have on occasion, but the degree of fear-mongering, false information, and lack of anything intellectual just got to me. I don't watch a lot of news at all these days, but I tend to like to take a glance at smaller organizations, or groups that are out-of-country like the BBC and Economist.
I'm also not convinced that one can say Fox is as biased as any given left-leaning news outlet. It seems to me that the truth of matters is often a little left-leaning.

I imagine a large proportion of Fox News' viewers watch because they're as ignorant & bigoted as the presenters. Like this one, an ignorant, snide, malicious harridan:

If you think that Fox is the only network that out and out lies when it serves its agenda then you do not watch enough of the news. Either that or you cannot look beyond your own bias to see the lies others are telling you.

Look up Rachel Maddow and Glock 7 or if you are too lazy, Maddow tries (and succeeds in some cases) to convince her viewers that the Glock 7 exists. Problem is that the Glock 7 only exists in the movie Die Hard. The reason she tries to convince us of this is to further her anti-gun agenda. And no, I do not believe she is stupid enough to not know the gun is fake after talking about it (at least) twice. Plus she stated at the end of the segment that you should not look up this stuff on the internet because you will only see lies from the gun lobby.

Typing...looks up Glock 7 on the internet...first hit is Urban Dictionary...the site says that the glock 7 is fake...apparently the Urban Dictionary is part of the gun lobbies conspiracy.
Yea, I watched a little bit on Rachel Maddow just now about the gun control stuff. She is incredibly ignorant of firearms. Everything she said was either due to her not knowing anything about guns or is a complete lie. She called a 7.62mm (assuming it is 7.62x39 AK-47 round) an anti-aircraft and artillery round... That's like calling a firecracker a weapon of mass destruction.

I wasn't aware there actually were Escapists who watch Fox News for anything other than comedic purposes. While it might seem from the outset of their reporting on video games like Mass Effect that had made quite the staggering lack of research, I think it's pretty clear they're just outright ignoring/distorting the facts; resulting in outright libelous and demagogic reports, to reinforce the prejudices of their insipid jingoistic audience. This video explains things pretty well:

I can understand people wanting to source more right of centre media along with the left to get a more balanced overall picture, but really couldn't you pick something that isn't the television equivalent of a tabloid? And I apply this to both sides of course, nobobdy should really be taking Keith Olbermann or The Daily Mirror seriously either.

For the fair and balanced news source. And how they're not bowing down to the socialist agenda of Barrack Osama and instead are being the voice of reason and truth through his lies.

Clearly they're the voice of the people and know exactly what should be done to help the world through these times. And they always know who is to blame (and justly so). They're the only news source in the world that not working towards a secret goal and gives both sides of the story. You dont see such communist sources like the BBC doing that.

This is so much easier to type than say because I dont have to stop and regain myself from laughter.
