Welcome! Stay out of the basement etc.

Want to know how to be liked? By being likeable. If you're polite, not insulting people (unless it's a friendly insult), then we like you.

Being funny also works. If you have no humour, then try a shameless gimmick that will imprison you forever to said gimmick and no-one will ever take you seriously. They haven't worked too well in the past though.

Calumon: You could hug people! That'd work! :D

People with less than 100 comments, to me, are people who make an account, are active for several weeks, then vanish and never show up again.

Usually, I judge people by how they type. Walls o' text, lack of capitalization or puctuation, and bad grammar and I frown on you.

You're fine, but I still think you'll fall in step with my stereotype in my first sentence.

Hi. I'm new.

No, this is not your dad's "Hey, imma newb here guys, please welcome me"-thread, I just want to know the lay of the land. So how are noobs viewed here, and when do you seize being a noob?

I'm a long time lurker. I've been here since Yahtzee started in 2007. I remember watching Heavenly Sword and Other Stuff one of the first days of high school that August. But enough of that. If I want to gain my Escapist-cred I need to know how it is measured here. Post count? Detailed profil? Join date (I'm screwed)? Or is it your classic "being an intelligent and pleasant person instead of whatever everyone else on the Internet is being"?

Yours truly,
Me
If my personal experience is anything to go by, the division in how you're treated has more to do with whether or not you have an avatar, so you're good to go. I really don't think there's any point in worrying about it. Sure, people with ridiculously high post counts have some vague feeling of knowledge to them, but I haven't come across anybody complaining about someone elses low post count. So, basically, don't be a dick and you'll be fine. Also, welcome :).

One useful fact, just in case you don't know...
If you want to reply to someone's post press the quote button.
To jump, press the A button.
To attack, press the b button etc.

Otherwise, yeah. So far you're doing good.

I tend to be cynical towards people under 200 posts, as many vanish, but your Escapist cred comes from whether or not people recognize you when your post.

You can do that however you wish. I'm trying to be recognized as that guy with the OMGWTFBBQ avatars, and maybe people will recognize me as that guy who does a Daggerfall LP on a very inconsistent basis.

Generally treated okay though you might get the odd snappy commentor. Just remember to use the report button for those people and don't add fuel to the fire. Try not to bump or double post and I imagine most will be fine with you. I will warn you though, this place doesn't take kindly to low content posts. So posting things like "This" or "Agreed" probably isn't the best of ideas. Also just posting images or youtube vids without any other comment is against the rules.

There's a bit of a broken base over the low content post thing... However I'm all for it.
Just basically, don't act like a troll, be generally polite to peeps and you should be fine with just about everyone.

Ho one thing I forgot to mention is, don't post "First" on a video, specially if you haven't watched the vid yet. I mean, you'd probably know this if you read the forums rules threads. However I know many-a-people skip over them and I'm just sort of reminding you. I would recommend you reading them if you haven't already.

First off, stay out of my basement!
Most will judge you by what you do and write, not your post count or join date.
Make sure to read the rules, otherwise I may have to ban you, and I'd rather not do that.
There are a bunch of great introductory threads, and I'll go and make a list of them for you, check this post later.
But a few unwritten rules for you first. Don't make vs threads, and we like debating here, so if someone argues with you they're usually just trying to provoke friendly discussion.
If you need anything, just ask :)

I almost wonder if there's an actual definition of the term 'Noob' in a dictionary; so i can just see if it measures up to my view of it.
A noob on this would be a fanboy who posts in majority (or all) caps, and has absolutely no regard for other people's opinions.
I really don't see join date or posts as a drawing line between noob and another member.
to me, its as simple as being friendly with a willingness to listen and accept other people's views and demonstrate their own opinion in a calm and constructed manner.
