Wonderful! We'll have this working yet, by damn!
I suppose this plan would work out well, because then we could nuke the whales without putting our own home at risk as we would if we were on the ocean.
I...hadn't even thought of that angle, to be honest. But now I'm even more excited!
Floating city of doom!

But where will we get the nukes? We'd have to steal or make them (buying is probably out of the question)?

I would suggest building it underneath the glacier, but with the way things are going it'll be underwater in about a century.

*gasp* Build it under Vesuvius! No one will ever suspect it!

This does help us in our goal of nuking the whales.

The group (so far only three people) seems set on an underwater paradise, but the consensus here seems to be a floating city. Perhaps we could capture an island, build a floating city over it, and an underwater paradise in the ocean adjacent. It would be perfect.

Again, Labyrinth's metal supply. Plutonium's a metal!

Of course, how could I overlook such a resource. Once Bob's stockpile runs out, this will be very useful to our continued nuking effort against the whales.

One small problem there. The whales and their nuclear annihilation is my thing. I can't share it with a whole floating city!

...that would be awesome!

Or... we could tear down Vesuvius under cover of darkness, build a perfect replica of it and build the city inside the replica!

You could be the commander and chief of nuking whales. You would simply gain an army that would aid you in the annihilation. In addition, the city could provide an excellent source of revenue as a tourist attraction, as could the underwater paradise.

I say we take over Molosia. Moreover, I say anarchy for the people, but destroy anything resembling a road, train track, or other trade route. Then destroy any kind of cellular communications tower, any kind of internet connection, and strangle any passenger pigeons in the area. Then build a mile-high electrified fence at the border and divide the nation into eight sectors with a similar fence. Once every month, the gates between the sectors will open up for a period of exactly seven seconds. Sustenance and shelter will be provided by the citizens. The place would be called "Darwinia".

Play ball.

Guys. Guys! GUYS!

Slow down. It's a cute idea, but it's a logistical nightmare. I mean, the easiest thing to do is live off a giant ship, like a converted aircraft carrier so that we may occupy international waters BUT! even IF we managed to pull off something like that, have you even begun to fathom how quickly we'd get sick of each other?

That would work too. Less chance of ending up like Pompeii. Well, worse than Pompeii.

This site is dominated by socialists, so I'm gonna have to distance myself from it. As it has already been said, is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow?

With that said:

I say we have a limited-government democracy, with free speech, free religion, free press, etc.

It would be pompeii whilst being shot out of a canon.

What is your basic premise at constructing the lift? Which scientific principles are you using?

I propose a combination of the theories of relativity, and Goodwin's Law.

We can take over Samoa. No one will ever notice!

BETTER IDEA!

We build it under the sea. We'll use cool fifties styling and architecture! We'll do cool research forbidden on the surface! After all, is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow?
You know what happened to the last fool who attempted that venture, do you?
Well, he did choose his own fate.

We decided there would be three different zones: A Libertarian zone (not unlike the one you propose), a socialist zone, and a fascist zone.
