Chest Barnacles...?

Anyways I like the "headshot segment. "So it's not OK when it's you"(to paraphrase). Yeah it really is a double standard. To say it's wrong to be a group of people killing another group of people in a war that happened, means that no matter which side you play all war FPSs are gonna offend somebody.

Does the lighting seem odd to anyone else...?

Also, I like things that are soft and nice. =D

For me, ENN is always laugh out loud but Loading Ready Run is very spasmodic, being genius one week and a mildly funny premise the next.

Was i the only one staring at Heathers boobs throughtout the entirety of that interview? I didn't hear a single thing she said... and then Katleen said something while display her own boobs... didn't hear it either...

Also, english guy here, i think we've been represented in WW2 games enough, but the Canadians, Polish, Scots and Free French forces haven't even been given a curtesy nod. And hell, why not do a ww2 game purely from the germans perspective? Not all of them were Nazis, it would be fun to play as the Wehrmacht with the mg42's and the kar98 (considered the best LMG and rifle made in that time period respectivly) and mega-huge tanks! :p

As a Brit, I might consider getting annoyed at any of this the moment someone starts complaining about how how Star Wars offers you the chance to play as the Stormtroopers and kill Rebels. Until than I am completly indifferent.

So anyway, that PAX thing, I don't have a girlfriend but I could probably buy a pet or something...

That's because WW1, more so then most wars, was a stupid war fought for no real reason while still killing so many people.
It was the first of the modern wars. Still just as civilized as ever though.

I'm surprised they didn't mention the Russians and how almost every FPS game now a days uses them as the enemy, hell even games that you fight generic Taliban troops that aren't really Taliban somehow lead up to the Russians being the supreme evil!

Also, BEWBS

The Medal of Honor controversy is a complete storm in a teacup. I think it's in poor taste (particularly when you consider EA's reasons for doing it) and I won't be playing it but otherwise I agree it really doesn't matter.

Films and books with equally misjudged plot elements are released all the time. You just pass on them and move on.

Still, this sort of thing is always defended by the insistence that the average mentally sound player doesn't confuse reality with the game; that it's all about entertainment etc. With this in mind I wouldn't mind seeing a few less shooters set in this narrow approximation of real life. Several of the century's most lauded titles in the category have us fighting unique and entirely fictional antagonists, Half-life 2, Halo, Bioshock. Interestingly those titles are also praised for their art direction and have arguably the strongest narratives amongst shooters.

Of course not everyone likes science fiction and it makes sense for military shooters to have realistic enemies but using real life stereotypes, ethnic groups and nationalities does seem simplistic and counterproductive to the pursuit of a more enlightened world. I mean maybe you played cowboys and indians when you were a kid but when you grew up you realized that it was a bit more complicated than just goodies vs. baddies. There was no harm in it but you gained maturity and perspective. Games these days are played and supposedly made for a much different demographic than 20 years ago. There is a far higher proportion of adult gamers now, many with children of their own. Yet the maturity of video game plots and antagonists wallow in an era of cowboys and indians. Would it really be so hard to take a leaf from the book of those really fun games mentioned above and craft one or two more interesting plots with unique and interesting enemies?

The gameplay and multi-player of MW2 and Battlefield: BC2 get lots of attention, yet no one ever mentions their story. Could we not keep the one while improving the other? Personally, I'd much rather play a game like Bioshock: Infinite than another (to quote Yahtzee) bland brown shooter.

Ah... ahahaha, ahh... I don't want to think about a nerd orgy after PAX. That isn't to say there aren't plenty of nerds that are attractive and/or skilled in the ways of pleasure, but this is probably a small hotel room we're talking about. It would get fairly awkward, and if you ran out of too much space, all the interesting sex acts get ruled out!

On patent trolls...

O noes, some guy I've never heard of is suing Apple, Google, Facebook, AOL, eBay, Netflix and Yahoo for patent infringement. You do know that those very same companies are constantly suing private individuals for infringing their own frivolous patent mountains, right? The whole patent system is a joke, and has been for some time.

Why do you say that?

Patent trolls just gamble with a risky loophole in an otherwise sound system (which has stayed fundamentally the same since the 18th century).

Patent trolls just gamble with a risky loophole in an otherwise sound system (which has stayed fundamentally the same since the 18th century).
Patents can be applied to something which did not exist in the 18th century: software. All you have to do is confuse the technologically illiterate patent officers with complicated wording and you can get a patent for anything, regardless of how obvious it is. And when, twenty years after it's filed, the patent lapses, society gains nothing, unlike patents for proper inventions where the designs fall into the public domain, that being the trade-off made when one chooses to file for a patent; the designs associated with software patents are not substantial enough to be worth anything to an engineer wanting to implement a system similar to the one described.

Please allow me to direct you to a post of mine in an earlier thread, and the post below it. (With the obligatory reminder not to go reviving weeks-old threads without good reason.)

At first I felt like I disagreed with your comment during "headshot" that this is just like other games and isn't that big of an issue. I tried to imagine my self playing as a member of the Taliban attacking U.S. troops and it just feels kind of wrong to me. Then I realized that I get a similar felling playing any FPS's based on actual historical events no matter who you are playing as, so I think that I actually do agree with you.

Whether your killing British soldiers as Germans, killing Germans as the U.S. or British, killing lots of Russians as the U.S. and vise-versa, killing both generic and actual middle easterners as the U.S., and being able to play as actual middle easterners killing U.S. soldiers, they are all similar enough, and I don't particularly care for any of them. Give me some big nasty aliens to blow to peaces and I am fine, but leave the real people out of it.

Great rant on the "Taliban Scandal."

But I think the big thing here is that they're doing this to get controversy similar to the "No Russian" deal. MW2 was hugely controversial, so the "competition" has to keep up with the Joneses. They're hoping something shocking will mean sales.

Of course, the answer's the same either way: Get over it.

Um...for some reason this episode starting out felt like you had the camera aimed at one of your monitors while it played the episode. I don't know why, there was just something weird at the start.

Still, great episode. Yay, got to see Morgan in LRR and Ash in ENN. Always good to see some people we don't see all that often anymore. Also, yay for Scott Pilgrim references! I saw that on monday, that was an AWESOME movie! It got me into the books and the game! (which are also awesome)
