Once again your lovable Jim Doki is pulling out all the stops to do something that may come off. I had a great idea last night

what if the escapist branched off into radio?

Now, of course, It's very much in its embryonic stages, but the idea is that I will go to a community radio station in sydney with a forum member (message me or reply here if interested, sydney siders only please), broadcast it, record it and upload it here. Ideally I want to be able to discuss gaming issues, reviews, and general tomfoolery.

Just a few quick questions.
Are the editors/moderators at all interested in this idea?
would anyone from sydney care to join me in this?
Has this idea already been presented/implimented?
Would anyone like their submissions highlighted on the show?

I have emailed community station FBi already asking what it takes to get on air.

Personally, I think this could be a bad idea, I only come here for the sensible forums, and to get away from the moronic XBOX live community. Well, that and de-rez, ZP and kung fu grip.

I seem to remember something like this from when I was looking in the back of the forums, I think they did do it at some point.

Ah, but that wasn't actual radio, I think.

Just an update, FBi have sent me a proposal sheet, saying that podcasting is allowed (all non musical content) and so is talkback. Unfortunately there is no space on the air at the moment. still looking, but maybe an online podcast would be a better option. the reason i was looking at radio, however, was to spread it to those who don't have regular access to the net and dont know about the site at all.

still looking at other stations

I think it would be awesome. Opinions could be voiced on threads in the forums, and new games in the form of reviews.

What would make it more awesome is if it was done over something like teamspeak (You can record all conversation in Teamspeak as a music file.), so that any member, no matter where they are, can take part.

If it was on the radio and not a podcast, would you propose putting the broadcasts online after they were broadcast for everyone not around the area it went out on?

I'd love to have some of the better reviews read aloud and some feedback on what the mods and editors think are good and bad around here, in terms of videos, threads and general poster behavior.

Hehe, 'special guest' springs to mind. Interviews with famous people, or even forum goers.

I would support something like RadioKol.

Theres DJ's across the world who brodcast 1-2 hours on set days and times, And then they can try and get somebody else to cover if necessary. So people arn't left out.

Yeah, I vote podcast. Radio is too localised and of a lower broadcast quality.
I'll contribute if people don't mind listening to a sarcastic British kid who talks fast.

Oh wait.

I don't know if they're still up, but the Escapist seems to have once released "Escapist Radio" podcasts.

Any chance of this getting to the States if it does work out? I have no idea how this would work, I would just assume you can hot-wire the radio station to the internet using duct tape and rubber bands.

How about RadioEscapist where people volunteer to DJ for a few hours on some day/ where they could do pretty much anything aslong as the views like it.

I definitely agree that they should do online podcasts. Think about it, gaming news, community-written reviews and all that. It would be better if it was online only because honestly I think it would be too niche for a local broadcast. Besides, if it was recorded for online it could have guest appearances by prominent community members or even just your average willing forum goer over Skype or Ventrilo. Hell, it could even be community made, if we had a couple strong community members willing to band together and record, edit and post it. Honestly I know that if one does get made I probably haven't been around long enough to be involved with it, but I'll go on record here and say that I would be willing to take time out of my not-very busy daily life to help out and contribute in any way to the making of an Escapist podcast. So if this thread does end up going somewhere and somebody's looking for a hand, feel free to PM me or something along those lines.

"GOOOOOOOOOOOOD morning escapist!"

Sounds like a good idea, but do we need to do it in building? Can't we just communicate over the internet, record it and put it up here on the website?
