Yeah. No-one said a thing when Megaupload, MediaFire, videobb or any of the other recently closed sites were closed. They will probably take our feelings into consideration and leave us alone so they wont have to get rude emails and discussions about how they suck in various forums all over the internet.

Neither videobb nor mediafire have been shut down, and he didn't say there wasn't a shitstorm when megaupload went down either, what's your problem?

Good to hear that Mediafire didn't get shut down, I just saw someone say it was a few days ago and I haven't had the time to check myself. However what he said in his post was that The Escapist wouldn't shut down because that would cause a shitstorm, now that would indicate that he believed they would be afraid to stir up a shitstorm while that is clearly not the case. Do I need to dumb down my posts more or was this straight forward enough for you?

Fuck no! This site does not condone illegal activity. It's not going to get shut down because it simply is doing nothing wrong.

Im not saying your wrong, because your not. The escapist is doing nothing wrong. Nothing is going to happen here, However. this site DOES condone copywrite infringement every day. You show me how many people have pony, or Anime, or other avatar images from copy written sources , and I will show you an equal number of people who do not have their respective publishers consent to redistribute that image. Yet these are painfully clear copywrite violations but the people comitting them are never reprimanded for it and all it does is encourages other people to swipe other copy written property they like and personally identify with. I am not saying it is right or wrong, but it is what it is. Its not wrong for the escapist to do it, but it is still copywrite infringement none the less.

Honestly again its not likely to happen. I mean the escapist is like what? top 1000 Alexa rating? thats really not a big target. Though in this jackbooted era I guess anything is hypothetically possible.

Yeah, you're right there. I guess the sarcasm wasn't necessary, nor was the rude response when he didn't catch my sarcasm. I guess I do owe him an apology for that. Thanks for making me see that I took this too far. Also because of my history with sarcasm in this thread let me stress that this is sincere.

Why the hell would they shut down this website? Contributers are so hardcore anti-piracy here that its a surprise the site didnt come out in support of SOPA.

except the whole "fact that it could kill this site due to reviews showing immagry from copyrighted material, and all the other stuff that would mean some ungrateful, stupid, son of a *****, corporate lackey could get offended that the escapist didn't rate their product 5/5 and take the site down on unrelated charges and ruin a great thing for everyone" thing, y'know cuz that's totally unimportant...

SOPA is bad enough as it is. Theres no need to lie to make it worse. SOPA passing would not mean random companies could take down random websites whenever they wanted without justifying the act first.

haha, actually no, but unless they rewrote the bill since i last read into it, there's enough loose terminology to allow for exploitation in such a way as to cause it's use against sites like this to be pretty well guaranteed, I dunno if you've read it at all, but it's scary, and acts as a big ol loophole in legality allowing for willy nilly prosecution, and service denial, in a shoot first ask questions later style allowed by the bill's wording.

I very seriously doubt it. This site is not a host of pirated or illegal content. While it may be true that some copyrighted stuff shows up from time to time, it's not like The Escapist has downloadable MP3's or games or whatever.

I am not worried about the FBI coming here to cause trouble.

Let me put it this way. Look on the right hand side of the forums. You see those pictures, the ones that people are more likely to be recognized by than their screen names? Yeah, most of those are copyrighted and being used without permission, which, had SOPA passed, would have been grounds to take the site down. That's why people were so angry about it: it wasn't a copyright bill. It was a censorship bill masquerading as a copyright bill, one that could be used to shut down almost literally any website on the net.
