I have to agree. I've never played it, but looking at that trailer they placed on the end of every video for a while...it kind of felt like they were trying to show how the universe is always in epic amounts of awesome conflict, and new stuff is happening all the time. The impression I took away was that it's a big, confusing place where nobody knows what the hell is going on. The "newsreader" sounded like even he didn't know what was going on, and they rattled off a bunch of group names without ever actually explaining anything about what was going on.

I hear you.

I just got the trial a little bit ago, and I was totally lost. The whole things either seems counter intuitive, or like you need to take a course on how to play.

I just got the best tier 1 frigate and armed it with some pretty awesome weapons (so I thought), and I am stuck because the only missions I can do are the courier ones because the "go here, and kill pirates" quests are insane. Most decent corps dont recruit anyone under 5 million skill points, so its no use trying to get help with them.

Eve is for business men. or People wanting to be business men.
Sci-fi rpgs really never grasped the wonder and excitement of combat when it's nothing but ship battles.
wayyyyy tooooo confusing!
interface is enormous.

Goonswarm are the arse of EVE. Pretty much anyway.

And it is not true that the decent corps only accept certain SP members. The only decent corp I can think that has some for of limit is VETO, who are pretty much the Mafia of EVE and the 5million SP limit is for the academy.

There are a fair few corps that take newer players you just need to keep an eye out.

However, I can understand everyone's point, EVE is a *****.

Try a destroyer for missions I found it much more effective.

Aside from that try find a corporation who'll take you on, it is a very difficult game to get a handle on, but if you don't mind the combat system it's a very good game once you start to get into it.

It took me several hours to figure out the mapping system, and what the heck is with the 3 day training time?

EVE is the sort of game I would like to play, but I would never be able to get any good, as I don't have enough time/patience to figure it out.

But that takes at least a week of training skills to do! lol Its seems the try to force you to have multiple accounts with the whole 1 skill per account training limit so its not like I can go play an alt.

Try Vendetta Online, it's much simpler if less professional. Or try the new approach to MMOs which came to me all of a sudden, try find fun things to do at your current level, especially things to do with other people. I think that's where you'll get the best out of MMOs instead of focussing on what you'll be able to do in a week/day/next level etc.

Damn you all to hell, the large number of EVE threads lately is starting to make me miss it.

So far I've only ever heard of 2 EVE players in my city, everyone else was bored of the trial within the first hour.

There's a corp called Eve University that dedicate themselves to helping newbies.

It's true that Eve has a steep learning cliff but once you get into the game, you'll soon realise that bigger and more expensive doesn't always mean better.

A group of small, inexpensive frigates can take down battleships relatively easily, but the emphasis is on the group aspect. In Eve, the lone player is prey.

It's hard to get into but once you're in it's awesome!

The nice thing is that its possible to pay for your subscription with in-game money.

It wasn't that hard for me to figure out. Once you figure out that you're basically being fished along by an infinite procession of useless skills, you are an expert.

It takes a couple months to fully grasp the majority of EVE. Never be afraid to ask in local or in the newbie corp.

Also as somebody mentioned EVEU is a great place to start.

The largest turn-off I find most people have with the game is lack of direction. Players are used to being herded from A-B like cattle and as soon as they have to choose their own path and destination they just end up sitting around doing nothing.
