Personally I've made an attempt at EVE on two separate occasions. Two free trials with the second one being followed by another month. After stopping to think about it, my problem is that everything is player controlled, meaning that it is very hard to accomplish anything if your alone. I've always been more of a "lone wolf" kind of player, preferring to act independently when I can. This works just fine in, say, Guild Wars when you can bring along AI controlled characters to help you, but everything in EVE is player controlled and influenced.

This has become my view as to why so many people think so little of EVE: people that play the trials try to go it alone, and in the world of EVE that drastically lowers your chances of survival in the universe.

You can do small scale mining or manufacture, ratting, missioning (up to about lvl 4), or pirating solo.

I have a merlin class frigate with two 150mm Prototype railguns and 2 arbalest missle launchers firing Caldri Navy Flameburst and Bloodclaw missles (Shield and armor penetrators)

Its an excellent sniping platform, the only drawbacks are my lack of armor and shielding, and thats what usually gets me. I go for more hit and run tactics against superior numbers and so far its worked out okay. (IE. Kill a few jump out, regen and repair shields and armor jump back in finish them off)

You can mine solo, hell you can go into 0.0 space and shield tank rats in a hulk.

I am really thinking about setting up another account to go mining/industrialist to build up my ISK to fund my future mercenary career.

Heres a good plan, train your racial frigate to level 2. Get your racial mining frigate. Train learning to level 3. Train racial frigate to level 4.(You might want to spawn as a caldari seeing as how the osprey is caldari) Spaceship command to level 4. Train caldari crusier. Get an osprey. Make money while you skill up to a BS. Up your combat skills while mining in your battleship. You should now have some money to make a bitching BS.(Before getting and osprey get your mining to level 4 too.)
