Mass Effect, funnily enough:
That last bit on Ilos where you travel down that long path of stasis pods before conversing with the prothean AI, I felt for a second like I was looking at concept art more than graphics in a game.
Can't think of anything else that really made me pause like that. The first time I tried the Bioshock demo comes mighty close though, but that was not just a matter of graphics, it was simply every part of it made that my must play game at that moment.

Gran Turismo for the PSX.
The first time I ever saw 'good' realistic graphics in a game.
I was flabbergasted.

Hated the game itself though.

For me it is Shadow of the Colossus. I love just riding around on my horse and looking at the scenery. Also Lost Planet 2 during the jungle levels and Fallout 3.

Not as amazing any more, but the D-Day level in Call of Duty 2 just used to be mindblowing:

Assassin's Creed 1 and 2 + Red Dead Redemption.
In those three games I just had moments where I had to stop what I was doing and just stare in awe.
To this day I fire up one of the AC-games just to climb somewhere high and take in the view..

For me it was Dead Rising, it was my first next gen game so I ended up dying quite alot by getting constantly distracted by how beautiful I found it, that wore off eventually as I realized how shit the actual game was.

Mass Effect 2 has some amazing scenery in it. I only completed it a couple of hours ago and there are some amazing sites. ME2 also has some amazing looking characters and facial animation, especially with Subject Zero and the paragon route. When in one of the cities I even caught myself wondering how amazing game graphics would be in 10+ and all the beautiful worlds which we?ll be able to experience and explore.

Some other games which are amazing were:
Oblivion: When you leave the sewers for the first time. Fallout 3 tried the same thing, but the vibrancy of oblivion vistas is infinitely better than the monotone of the wastes.
Fuel had some amazing scenery and weather effects, although this is all it had going for it.
Red Dead Redemption: Obvious.
Earliest example of graphics awe I can remember was when I played Amped on an Xbox demo unit. It looked so amazing when compared to anything on the Ps2 at the time. Amped was the primary influence in me getting an xbox.

Every cutscene in Final Fantasy 10 left me in a daze. From the opening blitzball game to the beach assault on Sin, I don't think I've ever enjoyed just watching a game so much in my life. It's no wonder the game had its on in-game viewing gallery.

Crysis ... two years ago ... or Oblivion as well. It takes you back and you're just like ... 'woah'.

Both Mass effect games ... Mass Effect 2 especially when at the start the top hull plating gets ripped off in the operations corridor just before Joker ... and looking up through it to surveil the stars ...

It was a pretty big 'Holy crap!' moment ... I didn't want to move.

Or Farcry when I first purchased it so many years ago. Back when it was considered new.

Jedi Academy was pretty aweinspiring back in it's day. "Woah man ... I can actually see the shards in the flechette shotgun!" XD

Far Cry I, back in 2004. Seriously, it was so beautiful, I just loved to wander through the beach even after killing all of the mooks nearby.

Also, when Half-Life 2 came up half a year later, I was like - 'meh, Far Cry was 10 times prettier'.

Actually, it was still one of the prettiest games around before Crysis came up, but while having better graphic, it failed to charm me that much as FC.

The first time it ever happened to me was then I played MoH: Frontline. I lived in Germany for a few years when I was young, about 5 years old was the earliest I remember. I started a level where you are running along some railroad tracks, hitting depots, etc. I stopped and looked around, and I was instantly reminded of Germany. It really felt like I was back in Germany! I was in awe for about 5 seconds, then really creeped out.

No but I plan to. I'm making ma very powerful computer to run FFXIV in max settings, and I currently run it on low and even then it looks better then Aion and every other MMO I've played. At max, it will probably sexually abuse my retinas. <3
Meh ... I got a 5.6k on the benchmark test on high for FFXIV ... and I was like "okay ... what does that mean ..." ... "woah, really> That good huh?".

I mean FF XIV is pretty but i hope it allows for future graphics packs ... sooner rather than later as was the case with XI

Let's go back in time. Way way back to the distant year of... 2000. I had been addicted to my NHL 99 for the N64 for about 2 years now but I wanted an NHL-series game for my new PS1. NHL 2001 was just coming out so the bottom fell out on NHL 2000's price. I bought that sucker and booted it up... and was immediately taken aback by the graphics. They looked like real people to my 13.5 year old eyes! Every one of my friends agreed that graphics couldn't get much better than this.

Well, we were wrong, but not as wrong as you'd think. Compared to EA's Madden and FIFA series, their NHL series really lacks in the graphics department; they actually haven't gotten much better in the last 10 years.
