Because what they are doing is harassing people. And unwanted harassment is a crime.
Harassment is behaviour that is intended to upset people and (here's the key part) that is repetitive.
From what I can tell these people did not go out of their way to pursue or persist in interviewing those who wished to leave. There is also no reason to believe these people were doing it purely for the joy/experience of upsetting people, most likely because they thought it would earn them more listeners/viewer if they made fun of some nerds on their sports show.
In a legal sense this was not harassment.

It has nothing to do with humor, and everything to do with some people being jackoffs.
Why not both? That is not an impossible intersection.

I'm not saying punch them, I'm saying you boot them out. People don't come to stuff like this for juvenile Howard Stern wannabes and their ambush interviews.
Exactly. You don't like what they're doing, make them leave, complain to their superiors (there is ample information in the source article for one to do so), just don't act like physical assault would be an appropriate response.

'Comedy' doesn't make them any less assholes for it, nor does 'comedy' excuse harassment.
Well I explain above how and unpleasant interaction with another human being doesn't constitute harassment. And I never said they weren't assholes.

You're also dodging that my criticism was towards your original comparison. Don't shift it and then pretend that my criticism was towards your NEW comparison.
You seem to be a little confused, here's how I saw the back and forth.
Me: Failing at comedy doesn't make one guilty of harassment.
You: But these people didn't know they were joking.
Me: Some of the most popular and least controversial comedy genre's of today hinge on participants not being aware that what's going on around them is a joke.
You: You're dodging the question.
Me: ?
If it were Sacha Baron Cohen who was going round comic-con doing comedy interviews, instead of Mike Babchik. It would be a joyous news article on this site, rather than a hate-filled forum post. Even if people were offended by things that he said. And bearing that in mind, does this guy really deserve such hatred and bile for fucking up at his job?
Look at the updates on the source article, this guys career will likely lie in tatters (according to some correspondence
they are considering ending the show involved and apparently a petition of 18 million signatures has been raised appealing for an official investigation into the incident) and his personal life will almost certainly suffer.
Considering we have no reason to believe he's a genuinely bad person, isn't that enough?
Should he really face harassment and threats of violence in return? Isn't that just a "two wrongs" deal?
But ignoring all that, all of that aside, threats of violence just make us look like petulant children that can't manage a measured response to something we find offensive.
Seriously dude, read the source article, that's how one should react to such an incident.
