No. Eyes open underwater isn't just a major freakin' healthrisk (as bacterias and such enter as easily through eyes as open wounds(does not apply for water with chloride in it)), but it also stings real freakin' bad.
Goggles, bah! Never really need them.
Salt Water: Never a problem
Chlorine: 30 minutes and it starts getting irritating, but that's time with eyes open under water.
Depends on the level of chlorine. When I used to take swimming lessons when I was little I could open my eyes fine, and swim for long periods underwater with them open. Then I decided to go swimming in the pool when I went on holiday and the chlorine was so bad I thought I'd gone blind. Not sure about sea water because when you're holidaying in Britain you tend to avoid going in the sea if you can help it, because it's either filthy, freezing cold or there's a horny dolphin on the loose.
I can't force myself to open them underwater, I don't know why but I can't. But it doesn't bother me if I do, doesn't hurt or anything. I fell out of a motor boat once, my eyes were stuck open while I was under water, didn't bother me one bit; but if you ask me to put my head in the bathtub and open my eyes I just can't do it.
my eyes go all puffy and burn like hell if i dont wear my goggles. its always been like that. i had to sit out of a school POE swimming lesson because i accidentally broke my goggles and the pool didnt have any i could borrow
I've never had a problem with opening my eyes underwater, except at my college, but the water there is so chlorinated that it would bleach the clothes I put on afterward.
I just kind of deal with it, after a while my eyes burn a little and for the rest of the day my eyes are blurry/stinging but it's just an inconvience, i guess i don't react all that much to clorine
Hate it, unfortunately it's a requirement to pass the PADI open water diving course. And it was not nice water, it was a freezing cold, disused ,flooded quary in leicester and it's exactly as fun as it sounds.
