I don't enjoy looking into peoples eyes all that much. It makes me uncomfortable, especially if its someone i don't know.

Before I wouldn't even look at people's faces but after have to socialize quite a bit you get used to it and really don't care. In fact all that matters is that it appears you're looking at them.

I very much dislike when someone stares directly into your eyes when you are conversing with them. It feels like they are challenging you. At the very least it makes me very uncomfortable.

I find it varies - making eye contact with someone is a good way to get your true meaning across.

slightly off topic, but staring at someone's eyebrows rather than their eyes whilst they're talking to you is a good way to put them off :p
I generally maintain eye-contact to either signify I'm giving them my attention. Although I usually maintain eye-contact regardless. If I'm thinking I'll look around. I don't really see the problem with it though. Maintaining eye-contact signifies confidence too I think.

Yeah, a friend and I made a thing of staring at their ears, forehead or chin to psyche people out. It's hilarious. Also, drawing attention to the eye contact you're making with someone who's uncomfortable with it is also rather amusing, just to see how awkward you can make them feel.

EDIT: I don't maintain eye-contact 100% of the time, I look away occasionally, but the net effect is a maintenance of eye-contact.

I find it uncomfortable when I look directly at someone in the eyes. I don't know why though, but I get the feeling that if I do, the other person will start to feel uncomfortable. I do look at them when talking, but almost never in the eyes.

I find prolonged eye contact to either be a very intimate or very aggressive thing.

Call me crazy, but when I lock eyes with someone for more than a few seconds, I'm either in love with them, or I'm trying to intimidate them so they'll go away. I tend to make full-on eye contact for a few moments, then look at the point between their eyes so they'll think I'm making eye contact.

Maybe it's just me.
