Was anyone actually scared by FEAR 1/2 enough so that a reduction of the fear via a co-op partner would ruin the game? The first two games were so hilariously BAD that a co-op partner to laugh at them with would actually improve the experiance for me. This announcement has actually put the game on to my 'might buy' list.

I am going to buy it regardless. I'm one of those people who MUST know what happens in a series. The only thing I didn't like about FEAR 2 was that it left everything from FEAR out in the cold. I'm hoping they explain what happened to the Point Man and his team (of course, that will leave me wondering about Becket and the others). Plus, I want to see if I'm right about Genieve or however you spell her name. I think she's Alma's mother. Why else would Alma leave her alone when she had the perfect chance for revenge?

Good co op, in my opinion, is any game with co op. I love playing with, not against, other people.

The co-op's a terrible idea, but there is a simple way to avoid it ruining things. Don't play it.

As for your other questions, yes, I did enjoy F.E.A.R. 2. It wasn't as scary as the first one, but still a good game.

And, as already mentioned, Timesplitters: Future Perfect had amazing co-op.

I'm hesitant about the game after FEAR 2. The game wasn't bad, it just wasn't in my mind as good as the first. FEAR 3 is on my radar and I'm gonna have high hopes for it but I'm unsure about buying it. It isn't about including coop or not, I just felt a little burned after the second game.

I never buy the 'if you don't like it don't play it' argument, especially concerning sequels.

Thing is, people want to see the story through but are afraid they might be wasting thier money on a dud product that isn't much fun.

Well, yes, if the whole thing's crap then they wasted their money. But if it's one optional feature (in this case a co-op campaign ALONG WITH a single-player campaign) that they don't like, no one's forcing them to use that feature, so it doesn't change the experience at all.

I think a coop campaign where the two players are radically different instead of clones of each other could potentially be really cool. It would make a game like F.E.A.R. less scary but I don't like scary videogames anyway..

The whole series when to hell when Vivendi lost the rights to it, so I can't say I'm surprised. Disappointed, yes, but not surprised.

I loved FEAR 1. I have only tried FEAR 2 on demo, and FEAR 3 might not be a buy for me.

I just think the graphics in FEAR 1 was the best; the most unique, the feel was Gawd.
Than it got less and less scary in FEAR 2... : (

WHAAAA? Gosh darnit.

If you remember the first demo of fear 2 being played at E3 or something, that was amazing. it used the same gun and blood effects along with pretty much the same engine. It would have been good if they didnt muff up the effects engine. they took the nice feel of kinetic impact out.

But jeez, I am kinda bummed now. I was hoping they would rock out with their weiners out for this game.

BTW: This is what I am talking about. Note the differences in the gun fights. Dont fix what aint broken

Ah, thanks for reminding me of yet another reason I hate Project Origin:

The glowy effect that surrounds your enemies when you engage SlowMo. Bloody hell, that was just not aesthetically befitting for visceral combat.

Also, at least the original FEAR's gore was awesome because it didn't happen all the bloody time. Too much of a good thing can turn it into a bad thing.

I really hope they scale the gore back to its original levels and kill the glowy effect. If they do, it'll go a long way towards making the combat far more visceral again.

Yeah, it's what I'll do before its condemned.

Tbh I still haven't gotten around to playing F.E.A.R. 2 yet so I'm sure what that's like either, the demo was alright
Indeed when I heard about condemned for 360 it didn't sound that good, but I tried it and was like woah! it wasn't as bad as it sounded

I just read a huge preview of F.E.A.R. 3 and it has effectively killed any expectations I had of the game.

It has co-op campaign.

This in itself will mean the scares are even less frequent than in F.E.A.R. 2, but it gets worse...

Player 2 plays as Paxton Fettel. That's right... a ghost. And he can't shoot. Nope. He sees the world in a wierd red haze, can find hidden stuff and possess bodies for a few seconds.

Honestly, the game is off my 'might buy' list now.

Did people enjoy F.E.A.R. 2? Can you imagine the game with co-op, and do you think it's a good or bad thing?

And for discussion's sake... what games had really good co-op campaigns?
So, they not only made it look stupid with its title (F.3.A.R. I mean come on!) But also added a pointless Co-op campaign and make player 2 play Fettel? What the fuck!

And a game with good Co-Op, Halo 3, the Co-Op in that works really well, it is one of the only games I've played that has decent Co-Op, the others feeling like they crow-barred it in as a last min feature.

I thought that Gears of War had an excellent co-op campaign. I had so much fun with that game with my friends.

Timesplitters was another great co-op game. Still one of my favorites to this day.
but in both of those player two had a direct impact...they could shoot, run, dofge, duck, dip, dive and dodge along with player one...the reason Fear 3's CO'OP sounds iffy is because it seems like player two can do jack shit

So that's what happened. Now everything makes much more sense. :/
It is indeed--the original game and the two expansion packs, Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate, were, tense, terrifying, and genuinely fun to play as horror-themed FPSs. Monolith took their fear-inducing methods and completely threw them out in favor of generalizing their games, making them (at rare intervals) tense but not really scary any more.

Wait, there's a FEAR 3 coming out? Didn't even know of it. I have the original FEAR, but it didn't scare me at all, ever, and I sort of stopped playing it. Was considering FEAR 2, heard it sucked, and I don't feel like I'm missing out, and FEAR 3? Meh.

Thank god, for a second there, I thought I was the only one who noticed. I just honestly think the fighting in the original FEAR was so satisfying. I really think the game would have been good if they kept the same effects.
