"The thing with TimeSplitters is, if we made a sequel to TimeSplitters, nobody would accept this apart from some fans, and we don't know how big the fan community is unfortunately," he continued. "And we don't want to design this as a packaged goods game that launches on a console, and even if we wanted to I don't think publishers would like the idea. That is the truth, and that was the truth even before we bought Free Radical."
Then why buy up Free Radical along with the Timesplitters IP if you have no idea how big the community is and have no faith that the customers and publishers would like it? Free Radical got 3 installments of the game published so I don't think publishers would be that much of a problem, especially since it is a shooter which most publishers would green light on that alone. Also I suggest Crytek fires their researchers as many people love the Timesplitters series, in fact everyone I showed Timesplitters 2 to bought it and later Future Perfect. I really do think Crytek are greatly under estimating the value of the series.

Crytek just either say definitively that Timesplitters is going to come back or not. So I can either give you all my money or continue having no further interest in the other games you make. I'm getting tired of being strung along by the thin lingering strand of hope that Timesplitters is not dead.

Really? These people don't already know that Timesplitters is one of the best IPs any studio could possibly own?
I mean, OK, if they were to do a sequel they'd have to do it right... if they "innovated" too much they could very well spoil the whole franchise, but it's like TF2. It doesn't need amazing graphics or big-budgets, it's just got a great story campaign, an even greater multiplayer system (with infinate replayability because of the map creator)....

I wouldn't say it's "the best game evar", because that would be unfair on the other games I love in different genres, but it's certainly very near the top. I still have it, I still play it. All my friends love it.

Why are developers and publishers so afraid of success and money? Can they not see that TS4 = Money?

*sigh*
I feel your pain too. I can tell Crytek now that a new TS game would sell a hell of alot more than the Homefront sequel they're having the Free Radical guys make instead.

What's Timesplitters? I feel like I might lose my gaming license for asking >_>
Series of 3 FPS's released between 2000 and 2005.
Decent single-player story (in the last two games) and some of the best split-screen multiplayer ever since.
Went with a wacky, arcadey style, rather than the grim darkness of grim grey darkness shooters have gravitated towards in recent years.
You can pick them up rather cheap second-hand now (I found a copy of their most recent game, Future Perfect, a couple of months back going for £4), so i'd definately recommend trying either Future Perfect or Timesplitters 2, if you can get them.
I wouldn't recommend getting the first, simply because 12 years has not aged it well.
It has some nice ideas which unfortunately never made it across to 2 (such as the Escort multiplayer mode, the Wave Survival-kind of multiplayer mode, and 4-Team Capture the Flag), but the loading times and graphics are a bit much to swallow, nowadays.
So, yeah. Get 2 or FP. (2 if you have a Playstation 2, or FP if you have a Playstation 2/Xbox/Gamecube)

I humbly request that everybody from Crytek just not say anything regarding TimeSplitters 4 unless it's talk of the game finally being developed. I did not enjoy getting led on for the last two years just to get told it wasn't in development.

Daystar may have something to say but I think that Timesplitters could be compared to Okami in the fact that they are both excellent games (and, in the case of TS, a series) with a almost cult following of fans that is almost completely invisible until the topic is brought up.

Back On Topic: Lot's of people are saying HD remakes and lot's of others are saying do the F2P TS. I for one think that they should create the HD remakes to gauge interest; then do the F2P to stave off fans and fund a full-blown sequel.
