I probably won't use this.

I like my anonymity, it allows me to be open without fear of (much) criticsm.

I'm still not giving out my full name. And I will sure as hell not unleash my most inner nerd on my real friends.
This. Please Escapist, don't somehow reveal to all my Facebook 'friends' that I go on this site. It would not end well for me.
Or, in other words, this.

God I hate Facebook, if it wasn't the only thing connecting me to non-university friends I'd leave so fast.
I just hate it in general, it's pretty pointless, almost as pointless as twitter.
I second that.

haha. more ways for me to annoy my 'scapist friends who i don't already have added onto my facebook or twitter. haha. and a way to annoy the rest of my friends. or try to at least.

In all seriousness though, I love my facebook account due to it keeping me in contact with my friends i don't get to talk to much.

This. Because some things (like my frankly worrying FF fangirl-ism) need to be kept out of my RL.

Seriously, i never thought that these two item would ever come within a hundred feet of each other.
I'm not sure why you'd think that. Despite the posturing of some of our readers, the people who actually make this place don't pretend to be "too good" for things just because they also happen to be popular.

We have fan pages, most of the staff are on there, most of us have twitter accounts - they're all communication tools, and that's what the internet is about.
I thought the internet was about porn.

I guess I'm not "hip" with the youngsters these days if I loose track of what the internet is about.

Uhm... is anyone ever logged out of The Escapist? Blasphemy, I say! Blasphemy!

I spend more time on The Escapist than one Facebook anyway... as long I got a computer and internet I will go here at least once a day and Facebook maybe once a month.

Yeaaahh, nahhh. The only reason I finally gave in and decided to make a Facebook page was when I found out the next Civilization was going to be on there, and I don't use it for anything else than posting as much annoying game related news as possible as retribution for all the rubbish that other people put on the board.

Seriously, "Yay, Fallout: New Vegas is going to have a hardcore mode!" is infinitely more interesting and informative than "Lalalalalaaaa", something than appears on my board surprisingly and disturbingly more often than I could ever have imagined.

Good heavens, why would we want this? I am probably the last person on the Earth currently not registered to that cesspit of People I Do Not Like And Please Stop Bugging Me Or I Will Shoot You In The Face(...book).

Wow, I really wonder why gamers hate Facebook so much. Seriously people, you are like a bunch of awkward teenagers freaking out because their best friend started hanging out with one of the cool kid.

Most of your concerns are pretty trivial. A)Nobody's forcing you to join. B)You can block the Escapist from posting stuff on your FB profile. C)Poison the forum? Dare we fear that some *gasp* "casual gamers" may come here to maybe learn more about gaming! Oh the humanity! D) Are you that ashamed to be a gamer that don't want your friends to see this website?

As for that second fear of Twitter, the escapist staff already are on the ball and have been for quite a while [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/staff/twitter].

I never understood the facination with facebook. Sure it can connect friends, but so can lots of other stuff.

I just don't understand. Its cool I guess, but I won't use it.

I don't mind the whole Facebook-Escapist thing, although I am having some problems with the connection.

I had clicked the Sign in with Facebook button, and it gave me a new account with my name. I clicked the "if you already have an account click here" thing many times, but absolutely nothing happened.

When I log on this account, My facebook is there when I edit profile details, but it doesn't show on my main profile page. When going into the edit profile details of my Facebook-Escapist account, when I try to change the email address to that of my Escapist account, it says "an error has occured" and ignores what I'm trying to do.

So what I have now is an extra account which I don't need, and a Facebook and Escapist that is still not really connected.

I'm confused. Please help.

Great. Another way to bring in more people and potentially poison the forums even more.

Maybe then we'll drive away even more dedicated members.
Hey, easy there. While I aagree with you to an extent, I wouldn't go about saying that new members are the worst thing to happen to the site.

I mean, form my perspective, that would mean that folks like The Iron Ninja, NewClassic and Labyrinth (who, despite her join date, only started posting in late 2008) would be part of 'The Cancer That Is Killing E', while they're the guys that contribute (or, in the case of FeNinja, contributed) to most of this site's awesome.

I'm just saying.

But what's going to happen when a rabid Bookies decide to start openly flaming members and creating controversial user groups, like they do on Facebook. Because the Escapist has decided to associate themselves with this cesspit of hatred and lies (WHOO! Castlevania reference) we can expect Facebook's problems to find their way here.

And as for The Cancer, I don't see how people Like New Classic and Labyrinth would be part of it since they don't start fires around this site and do not contribute to the lessening of quality, where as people who join and and create low content threads and finish them with "Discuss", are what I think many would consider a cancer to this site.

Even though I use Facebook and have it linked to as my home page, I'm tempted to agree with this somewhat, especially as I recently dove into the stupid and hate that is a substantial portion of the groups (the Escapist now seems rather anime fan-friendly by comparison, to put it lightly). Of course, on the other hand I'd like to be Facebook friends with people besides SharPhoe, Hail Fire, and ProfessorLayton.

There are plenty of idiots on Facebook, sure, but there are plenty of idiots everywhere. And it's like you've completely forgotten that we have quite a few Mods patrolling this site around the clock.

You said it as a broad term, as in every single new member was an issue, which is why I replied with that quote. And I still stand by it, people have been doing the exact same thing as you're doing now back in 2008, and so long as there are new members, that's never going to change.

Hey, I know this is a really old thread at this point, but I'm having a problem that you guys may be able to help out with. When I go to the edit profile (or whatever it's called) page on this site, the login with facebook button isn't a button, but merely just plain text.

Is it possibly a browser problem? I have the latest version of google chrome
