People that come out with such phrases are pussies (I'm not even going to disguise it by saying 'melodramatic' anymore).

Eh?

EDIT: Nevermind, didn't read all of the OP. Thought we were about to get into an interesting discussion about rebirth.

I think that the majority of humans are just plain stupid. The rest of us are also stupid but we at least can use our brains. So about a 6.

Even Socrates [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socrates] harbingered the doom of mankind.

But we are still here. Two-and-a-half millennia later, humanity thrives, despite our depravity, despite our stupidity, despite our desperate adherence to simple, wrong answers.

Do I have faith in humanity? Absolutely. We've made it this far, and seem to be able to surmount any hardship, to the point that we're stubborn to respond to crisis without a high attrition rate. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Real-world extinction scenarios are multitudinous, most unpreventable, short of colonization of space. (Here [http://www.ted.com/talks/stephen_petranek_counts_down_to_armageddon.html]'s a fun list.) Short of such a catastrophe, the human race will continue, and our civilizations will continue to get better, become more civilized, and extend human rights (including access to resources) as technology allows us to further provide for them.

I can say this with confidence, because that's invariably been the long term trend since the dawn of our species. We are extremely social. Reciprocity is hard-wired into our brains, as is preservation of our tribe (not just self-preservation).

Do I have faith in our present society? Absolutely not. Every civilization before ours, be it republic or empire, has fallen (that is to say, transformed enough that it is unrecognizable in comparison to its predecessors) As I mentioned, our resilience has given us hubris, and we're slow to respond to that which can destroy us. America (for example) may fall to natural disaster, to economic collapse (and then violent revolution) or to attacks from abroad (China could easily invade us via sheer numbers). But many will still survive, and the culture we have now will permeate the society that succeeds ours.

(stupid punctuation typos...)

What improved my faith in humanity? Well, me. I worked on me a lot and realized a few things, but the most important is that everyone can change if they decide to do so. A part of that change was to focus on the good things in life, on selfless people that came in mine to give me a helping hand when I needed one, AND focusing on me to try to help anyone that needs me, so I can return the favor - someone to fall in love with life again.

In some Muslim societies (maybe there are other also, I don't know, I am not stereotyping religions, this is what I've seen in a special documentary about a region near my country), womans genitalia are mutilated by removing the clitoris, so they can not feel pleasure and thus not be able to crave for another man. Enough said about losing faith in humanity.

On the scale I am 100 without hesitation. I am aware and have seen lots of bad things, but still. I trust us.

I don't know. It's pretty low right now what with me hearing about people's problems all the time.

When you stop to think about it, this really can be a horrible reality we live in.

Right now....it's at about 3.
Just for the record 0 means that you think us all going extinct would be the best fucking thing to ever happen.
There are days that I feel precisely like that.
I try my best to not hate the Many for actions of the Few (insert Spock joke here, but it's true), but some days life just beats me down.

The one thing that keeps me going is that I know that I can do better than that. If I can lift the weight of the world, even a little from one other person, then it wasn't another wasted day.

The majority of people see themselves as "the last sane person in a world full of idiots" My faith in humanity is at 100

because as bad as some of us are. The fact that we arent all dead yet means we're doing something right. The majority of humanity isn't as bad as some people think. But nobody wants to hear about the vast majority of NORMAL people on the news. The only people we hear about are the psychotic people doing weird shit.

My faith in humanity is, has been for the past several years, and for the foreseeable future will be at 0. People are shit, and the sooner everyone realises that everyone around them is scientifically designed to piss them off in every way imaginable, the better off we'll be.

Hell is other people, and no I have not had a good day :D

As a scripture as literal truth [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naturalism_(philosophy)].

Hence, Skullkid4187, I wonder what you imagine to be unique to Christianity that makes it your last hope for the human race. Christianity is a pragmatically eclectic religion, hence probably not so singular after all. Fortunately so, since humanity will likely never unite under a single philosophy or faith, except that which is ingrained into each of us.

Twilight fans make me lose my faith in humanity, but it's honestly massive discussions on websites like this that restore my faith. Just knowing that there are in fact like-minded people is rather fun.

As for what restored my faith in humanity, is when a lady who was by the river where that ***** threw the puppies in actually saved 5 out of 6 of them.

Now it's your turn.
I'm sorry dude, it's looking like the ***** who threw the puppies in asked her neighbour to pretend to find the puppies to take of some of the heat she was getting.

Anyway, I'm at 100. I try not to judge humanity by the lowest common denominator, I would be somewhere around 0 if I did, there sure are an awful lot of horrible people out there.

This. This is also why all christians are seen as biblethumpers, all atheists as intolerant, and all homosexuals as effeminate ladymen, etc. Because they're the ones that stand out from the normal crowd.

When the vocalist of my band (who doesn't pay for fuel, practice or anything) organised our last gig before Hiatus. That was amazing.

...he then proceeded to not show up for sound check, and walk through the door 30 minutes before we were supposed to go on stage, that was more standard.

I haven't lost faith at all. In fact, I believe our species has an incredibly promising future ahead of us. The only problem I have is wading through the sea of idiots between then and now. Don't lose heart, guys, we're gonna make it.

Tangential inquiry: am I the only one that rolls his eyes whenever an ever-popular "Three underage boys rob a bank and slaughter the population of Wisconsin because their dad wouldn't let them play Xbox past their bedtime" thread shows up? Our instinctual sense of morbid curiosity is helping to corroborate the narrative provided by mainstream media outlets, and that narrative is "humanity is starting to suck, the end is nigh". These depressing stories are the result of a small fraction of our population, and it's certainly not the fraction we would put before alien visitors to try and impress them, so why should we judge humanity as a whole based on these people? The world's population is at an all-time high (since idiots are a statistical certainty, more people means more idiots to do more idiotic things), and living in the Information Age has brought the "big picture" to a lot of people that were comfortable believing the rest of their world was just like their comfortable little bubble of reality; the result of this is the modern media treating the rest of the world's events with the same mentality that they treated their small-town "cat stuck in a tree/boyfriend shoots ex-girlfriend" stories with, and that makes for daily forecasts of the apocalyptic end of humanity, because news stations have always had a woody for scary stories about murder/rape/assault/theft because it's guaranteed to grab better ratings than a kitten stuck up a tree... only now they have the means to find, hype, and report every other one of those incidents that occur, everywhere.

As a result: it's a fear-based economy right now in America. People are getting into office with threats of what could happen if they don't get elected, and a burgeoning section of the economy is built on "terrorism prevention" despite the fact that America has had a surprisingly small amount of terrorist attacks and highly competent civic infrastructure more than competent enough to handle the recent volume of attacks on its own. Republicans in particular are selling a message of "humanity is on its last legs, let's restore us to our former glory before it's too late, or else Osama Bin Laden will touch your kids while they're sleeping and Jesus will make his return with guns a-blazing". Common sense dictates that things are only as bad as they've always been, but as access to the crappy parts of humanity is greatly expanded, we're seeing more of the parts that we've always preferred to ignore. It's over-reactionary and irrational to posit that conditions are worsening, so just don't. Things are actually great right now, all things considered, and it's time we appreciated that fact; when you view history without the omni-distorting lens of romanticism, and compare it to modern times, you'll see just how much things have improved (and continue to).

0 to 100 as to what my faith in humanity is? I'd say its about 40 or so. I have lost alot of confidence in the present world with how leaders are screwing up the world for the future (my) generation. At the same time, I have some kind of personal optimism that people will eventually learn from their mistakes that just won't leave me.

I guess I'm wary, but hopeful. That's the best way to put it.

Thank god. That little fiasco has been bugging me for some time.

OT: Josh Harnett being as good looking as ever. (though still not in any movies.)
