I have encountered people who do that. They're called hipsters, and they make me want to punch them in the face. They always wear those stupid-ass giant nerd glasses which, to me, is like wearing a giant sign over your head (or on your eyes, in this case) that says "I AM A GIANT ASSHAT. PAY NO HEED TO MY ENTIRE EXISTENCE, FOR IT IS WORTHLESS IN EVERY ASPECT." But, then again, that's what I feel about every aspect of this ludicrous hipster culture. Them damn whippersnappers dang-nabbit and so on and so forth.

On a side-note, it's always funny when people who don't need glasses ask to wear mine. One of my friends almost falls over whenever he tries.

The relevant equation is: (Cute girl) + (glasses) = (smoking hot girl)
No truer a word has ever been uttered!

OT: No, I haven't... perhaps it's because my entire extended family (myself included, obviously) needs to wear glasses for real (most are already clever... probably, and some prefer contacts). Severe short sightedness seems to run in my family. And the genuinely clever people I know that don't wear glasses just hold up their grade sheets/business cards, so what the hell would they need specs for.

Here's a question for everyone: ever seen someone (especially a woman) wearing a monocle IRL?

I have never encountered anyone who wear fake glasses nor am I sure I know anyone who would. It just seems really pointless. I have to wear glasses but I am thinking about looking into having laser surgery.

Yes, I do know some people who wear fake glasses. They've become a fashion item like bracelets or necklaces and while I would never wear them myself, I still don't have any problem with others wearing them.

Seen it. I also think its a bit stupid.
At college for almost every dress up day you get people who dress up as old school geeks/nerds with the black frames fake glasses and other crappy things that just make them look stupid. They piss me off and I would dearly like to punch them.
I know someone who wears glasses and she hates them as she goes airsofting(BB gun version of paintball) which you need complete eye protection for, so either she has to fit them under her face mask or wear contacts which irritate her eyes and as you can't remove your face mask in the field it can be a pain.

I was at a get-together last week and I met my friends new boyfriend. He asked if he could see my glasses. I usually don't like people touching my glasses but I was already a bit tipsy and in a pretty good mood, so I agreed. He put them on and said, "Oh, they're real!...And your eyes are really bad." I say, "Of course. Why wouldn't they be real?" He tells me that he knows someone who wears fake glasses to look intelligent. At first I thought it was a joke and I laughed a bit, but he told me he was serious. That some people actually do that.

My question to you is :

Have you ever encountered anyone who has actually done that? If so, what did you think?
Nope. I have a slight problem with my eyesight (Really small) and the only reason I war these glasses is because I hate being ina disadvantage, even if not being able to read a sign 200 meters away isn't very important.

I read in a book once about job interview advice that it's advisable for women to wear glasses to an interview for jobs that typically hire more men, I guess to look smarter. I always put in contacts for my job interviews since I hate wearing glasses, go figure. I don't know of anyone in person who wears prescriptionless glasses.

I've never seen people wear fake glasses, that I know of, unless it's Halloween or something. I wear real glasses and wish my eyesight wasn't so bad so I don't have to wear them. Frankly they make me look more nerdy than intelligent...

No. I suppose someone could be hiding the truth but I've never encountered anyone I know of who has fake glasses. Where do you buy those anyways? (most people I know want to avoid wearing glasses even if they need them).

out of my cousins including myself and my sibling, there are eleven of us. only three of us don't need glasses. they have never thought of getting glasses because here's a thought THEY DON'T FUCKING NEED THEM!!!!!
No person i know wears glasses just for shits and giggles.
they have them because it is and/or:
a)because contacts are a ***** ( or too lazy to put them in)
b)they need them to see
my prescription is very weak so I had one person ask if mine were fake. but my eyes are bad enough that I need to wear them if I am to drive.

I once wore fake glasses when I had to give a report in High school so I could take them off in dramatic fashion when I gave a startling point, and you know what I actually did do that for all you people doubting me. Other then that one time, no and I don't know anyone who does either unless they are hiding it from me.

I don't see how wearing glasses makes you intelligent. I wear glasses and I am horrible at math.

Glasses are a fashion accessory these days. No weirder than some of the other useless shit people wear. Like ties, WTF (this comes from a big tie fan mind you).

Laser eye surgery is too expensive for me at this time but I might look into contacts.

I live in Tokyo and this trend has been on the rise for the past few months. It is primarily a fashion thing, which is understandable because glasses can be a great accessory for some outfits.

The problem I have with it recently is that girls wear fake glasses WITHOUT lenses! If you have lenses that are just non-prescription, then that's fine because nobody knows the difference, but having glasses with NO lenses just looks dumb as hell.

In any event, this has become a HUGE trend in Tokyo recently and I can't for the life of me figure out why. Especially when in most cases the girl looks WORSE with glasses than without and it's obvious to everyone that they are fake!
