I did a search, all I found was saddest moment etc. also I think this is the right section of the forum.

I'm asking something slightly different, how many of you, if any, have been so immersed in a games story that as events unfold you share the protagonists feelings about it. You might just mute the feelings inside and say to yourself "meh", but something in the story hit a spot.

Me for example, I was at Romans wedding in GTA IV when Kate was killed in a drive by, I'd kept away from spoilers, I didn't know it was coming (going back some months now), for a second I just thought what? Then all I cold see was red, I was fuming. Niko was F-ing and blinding and in my head so was I, we shared something, (the character and I), a loss and wanted revenge. After the last mission, it felt like there as nothing left to do, it was strange, all the rage had gone with a few taps of the L2 button and a assault rifle, but I was left feeling empty, no sense of the satisfaction that you'd normally get from finishing a game and righting a wrong. I fed my anger and felt empty as a result as I have from doing so in real life in the past (not killing someone, but letting my emotions completely dictate my actions after something really made me angry).

I do have others, but that one stands out and pretty much gets my point across.

So has anyone else joined the protagonist of the story on the emotional roller coaster, or do I need to grow a set and man up? Haha

I love you. But I think I love the cake more...

But anyway. I think I connected with Alyx at the end of Half-Life 2: Episode Two. I won't say anything more than that, but I mean RIGHT AT THE END. I loved that fantastic end sequence and it almost brought a tear to my withered and dried up eyes.

This happened to me during BioShock. Also, at two points during Half Life 2 ep. 2; when Alyx was -------, and Eli was ------. I was totally depressed for about 4 days afterward.

Yep, I kind of hated her after that too.

Would you kindly realize this stunning and traumatizing secret I'm talking about?

Tales of Symphonia. Lloyd. Colette. Remiel.

Blinding rage.

...in fact, this is a defining characteristic of many of my favorite games. See also: Tales of the Abyss, Luke immediately after Akzeriuth.

Or Link in Majora's Mask, immediately after getting the Couple's Mask. And immediately going to shatter the titular item with all the fury I could muster.

I really connected with the MC in Persona 4... and when he had to leave his friends at the end of the game, I actually cried. *Sad sack, she knows.*

Atleast I am real.
It was always real! She was just... busy... putting the icing on it! Don't. Ever. Tell. Lies. About. The Cake.

Err... how to make this post back on-topic... err...

I also... felt sympathy for... err... the G-man...? Yeah, cause he lost Alyx and got all mad, and he was like: "Yo Gordon, my bia-t-ch, you be betta' gettin' that ho' back, and you'z a gotta' be takin' her to that White Forest place, duuuude. If ya don' man, I don' wanna be seein' what my employers is gunna be doin' to ma face, get it!? BOO-YAH!"

...yeah.

In The Darkness when you go to investigate the blown up orphanage where you grew up, and after picking around the rubble looking for the bad guys then
Jenny is killed
I really understood how Jackie must have felt at that moment. Especially since he was watching through a window, and you're kind of watching via your TV through his eyes - no other game has put me into the role of the protagonist quite the same way The Darkness did at that moment.

heh. Yeah, that was done fairly well. Planescape: Torment and KOTOR2 are probably the games I've become most attached to my main character, when I start to feel as they are. Granted, for KOTOR2, once I reach the 80% point I have to drink until the level design stops sucking, but other than that it's a great game to draw you in.

As well, in Civ 3 and MOO3, I was occasionally plagued by rebels declaring their independence from my glorious empire. I angrily euthanized the offending parties, feeling far more hatred that they betrayed me than for any enemy I've ever faced. Seriously, I wiped their city/planet off the face of the map in the most expedient method available (ok, so I only bulldozed it with tanks in Civ 3. But I still completely destroyed the city. In MOO3, the rebel colonies got to discover the joys of having their planet's surface temperature increased 5000 K).

well, if you did the OTHER thing instead, you wouldnt of missed much, although she is the worst girlfriend Niko could have.

My moment would of been the first time playing through Fallout 3 when
You finally find your dad. I walked with him back to rivet city, just to hang out with him, he was a good ally also, fairly accurate. But when he sacraficed himself in the Project Purity room, all I felt was, to be put into words: "you dick, I spent all that time running around trying to find you, and you kill yourself?! I COULD OF EASILY KILLED ALL THREE OF THOSE GUYS IN SECONDS! RRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

but yea, that was my moment.

Edit: Remembered another one after some ridicule from a friend.

Saints Row 2
When Carlos is dragged around by the truck, I thought I stopped it early enough but when my character put him out of his suffering, I felt kinda sad, and kinda pissed at the Brotherhood. I was glad I was able to get revenge by having their leader accidentally crush his girlfriend with his monster truck, that was pretty cool.
I think I'm really lucky getting that option first time around, I played it again, start to finish picking all the other options and when Romans killed at the end I felt more relieved, plus Kate never answered my calls!

That Saints Row 2 moment is one of mine, those Brotherhood members deserved everything they got for doing that.

A lot of the games that go on for a length of time where you go on a journey with your characters I kind of get worked up. I may just overreact too much, but about ten hours into Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne I would go "oh hell naw" every time I was about to fight a boss. I had survived the pseudo-apocalypse and I wasn't going to be stopped.

Other memorable ones are Chrono Trigger, Homeworld, the Ace Attorney games, and Bioshock.

First time that happened to me was when Crono died and I was like "AW HELL NAH WE AINT GOIN OUT LIKE DAT".
The side quest to resurrect him became one of the most important missions of my entire life, and suffice to say, the conclusion was immensely gratifying.

Also, Silent Hill 2 fucked me up pretty good... Or pretty bad, I should say.

After Would you Kindly in BioShock, I REALLY wanted to kill Atlas. Like, a lot. I didn't HATE him, but as a character, he needed to die. Too bad that boss battle sucked so much, eh?

I really never could understand the charm of that game. I mean, it's okay, but I don't enjoy it that much.
The whole 'adult story presented in a way that children would get it' was pretty cool, though.
