Fallout 3 arguments.....

There seems to be an awful lot of arguing going on over whether Fallout 3 is a FPS or an RPG...

My initial response would be 'who gives a molerat's ass??' but on seeing how worked up people seem to get, why not christen a new genre right here, right now and if we come up with a good one we can send it to bethesda!

It is just like when people used to argue about whether Green Day and Blink 182 were pop or punk until they came up with the very imaginative genre name of pop-punk.

I thought there was a whole new classification for games like Fallout. Something like "role-playing-first-person-shooter."

Its a really poor FPS and a pretty damn good RPG. The fact that VATs is infinitely more useful than aiming in its shoddy FPS engine confirms this. When I had come to terms with this I was placated.

I still wish it had left the shooting to a solid FPS element and then RPG'd the rest of the game. After all when it comes to choosing between blasting and blathering, I'd rather blast. Give the shooting for free and I might consider talking.

I agree, and that's why the fast enemies like giant radscorpions are such a pain in the ass, use vats on em and you're screwed.

I know excatly, also you can't shoot bloatflies so you have to use VATS. Waste of bullets and action points those enemies are!

If you can run up on one with your shottie you can usually drop em... but VATS is always more fun!

I have nightmares about the giant radscorpions though. They just won't die!!!!

Funny how nobody accuses Baldur's Gate 2 of being an RTS, even though the control scheme is an RTS one...

Then why do people keep accusing FO3 of being an FPS? Combat in an FPS isn't determined by your stats, skills and such. Combat in FO3 IS determined by your stats, skills, and as such excludes it from the FPS club.

Granted, it uses a first person perspective and you shoot guns in it, so purely semantically, it's a First person game with shooting, a First Person Shooter. If that is what determines an FPS, then yes, FO3 is an FPS. But by simmilar reasoning, BG2 is an RTS. Raise your hands all of you who consider BG2 an RTS... Didn't think so.

Haha i always try to avoid them. Also i know its a major part of the game but i really hate raiders with a passion!
