[HEADING=2]FALLOUT 3 REVIEW ARENA[/HEADING]

Welcome to the Escapist Fallout 3 Review Arena. It's time once again to pit your wits against your peers. It doesn't matter whether you're an anonymous source or you've gone thoroughly gonzo, all are equal in these hallowed halls.

The rules are simple, each contestant must submit a review of no more than 500 words. The review must be spoiler-free and sent by private message to me, [user]nilcypher[/user], by midnight (GMT) on the 14th of November. Reviews may contain up to three pictures. Captions on the pictures are allowed and do not count towards the word limit, but must be kept to ten words or less. Only one entry is allowed per user. Do not post entries on this thread. Any entries posted here will be disregarded.

Entries will be judged mainly on content, but formatting, spelling and punctuation will also be a consideration. Pictures will also be taken into account, should you use them, so judicious use of the inline image tag is recommended. Once the top entries haver been chosen however, it becomes a free for all were you, the community, will decide who shall be crowned.

The prize is the respect of your peers and a custom title lovingly crafted by top Swiss titleers.

[HEADING=2]Frequently Asked Question[/HEADING]

Q: Pictures allowed? Reviews submitted anonymously? This all so new and frightening!
A: Yep, it's a brave new world. Let's just say I like to keep you on your toes.

Q: If we're not posting reviews here, what's the point of this thread?
A: Any questions you might have can be posted here and if you want to announce to the community that you've entered the contest, well that's fine too.

Q: Let's get down to nuts and bolts, why 500 words?
A: So you have to chose each one carefully, be creative and self-edit.

Q: Could I get away with 501 words?
A: No.

Q: Oh, go on.
A: No, it's not fair.

Q: Can I use less than 500 words?
A: Absolutely.

Q: Do I have to count the words individually?
A: You can if you like, but most word processors will count them up for you. If you don't have a word processor, you can find a rather nifty free one at openoffice.org [www.openoffice.org]

Q: About these pictures, are there any size limits?
A: Technically no. but if you dump a huge 1680 x 1050 screenshot into your review, it will count against you. Keep them a sensible size and everything will be fine.

Q: Are you going to pull any weird trick like you did last time?
A: Almost certainly. It's definitely something to keep in mind while you write your review.

Q: Can I change my review after I've sent it?
A: Once you submit your review, you'll have three days to make changes and send it again. After that. you're out of luck.

Q: I've posted my review in this thread, now what?
A: Now you apply your palm to your face. You've just disqualified yourself. Do not post reviews in this thread. That is all.

Good luck to you all!

Question time!

Question Number A:
Can the reviews be first-impressions or must they be completed-game reviews?

Question Letter 2:
Will the competition be Round-Based like last time, or are we looking at a free-for-all?

Question Symbol ¼:
Is having fun allowed?

Question Symbol §:

Answer 1: You can submit a first-impressions review if you like, but you have until the 14th of November to submit your review, which should be enough time to at least make some decent headway into the game.

Answer 2: After the best entries have been chosen, they will be arrnaged into rounds just like before.

Answer 3: Fun is kind of the point of this whole contest.

Wow, thanks Nil. THe allowance of pictures could help/be a bad idea, for some players and the captions not counting towards word count is also handy. I feel the thoroughly gonzo comment was a jab at me, so as compinsation for the sleepless nights I've had over the attack, I demand I already win... no? Well, it was a try.

Now to play the game somehow?

Well now I really wish I'd pre-ordered Fallout 3. Not only are all the shops going to be consistently running out of stock before I get to them. But I'll miss the chance of a shiny title.

How often do these review contests happen?

Curse the UK release time of 31st October - the US crowd will already have a headstart! But I do have a few years of Fallout experience to call upon - although considering my fanboy background, that may well be a disadvantage.
If it makes you feel any better, my laptop is too weak, and I do not own a 360, nor a PS3... So my experience with Fallout 3 will be entirely at a friend's whim, which is why I'm likely to do a first impressions, as that is all I will probably have time for...

So, buck up. You're not as screwed as me.

Whee! Thanks Nil. The last contest slipped me by, so I'll try and get an entry into this one.

I've always considered it easier to write a review without too many comparisons to previous titles in the series (though I've clipped that around the ears of late). It eliminates the "This was better, that was worse" factor.

Wait, is this competition for a review of Fallout 3? Or can it be any game you want? I mean, it just says to write a review, but it says Fallout 3 review arena soooooooooooo............what do we review? Or am I just blinded by my own stupidity?

Just Fallout 3. They did the same thing with GTA4.

Not going to happen. No review arena is going to be based on a game exclusive to one system, it leaves far too many people out.

Alright, this basically leaves me out until I actually get the game. Can't get Gamefly so I'm screwed until my friend let's me borrow it.
