Get strongback perk.. Useful for carrying lotsa stuff that you can sell or make weapons out of.. Also i recommend finding the UFO crash site, you will get an awesome weapon..

If everyone in Megaton hates you, then detonate the atomic bomb in the center and blow them sky high :)

Want caps fast?
Course you do.

Find that woman in Springvale, and talk her into giving you all her caps.
Then shoot her.

Go into Megaton, find Walter, and ask if there is anything you can do to help.
Fix the pipes, and be nice to him.

Bang, 600 caps already.

Go to Craterside Supply, and talk to Moira. Write the Prologue to get some decent armour.

Then, go clear out Springvale school, lots of ammo and weapons in there.

Sell the excess weapons in Megaton.

Next, go to The Brass Lantern and hack the Terminal, unlock the safe for another 300 caps.

Continue on with the story campaign and keep leveling up your small guns and repair (this will make you better with guns and repairing guns you find lying around so you can spend your money on more important things). When you get past level 8 get the scrounger perk which lets you get more stuff from looking boxes and bodies.

If you decide to blow up megaton don't forget to get the bobble head out of Lucas Sims' house first. Don't worry about them hating you, if you do enough good during the rest of your adventures they will be nice to you again.

About level 10 go get the following weapons:
Alien Blaster - http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Alien_Crash_Site
(*Note if you have the Mothership Zeta DLC you will have to get this after you finish the Mothership Zeta side missions*)
Lincoln's Repeater - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gddg0WfVuBo
The Terrible Shotgun - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gz57ZM2eDfA

If all else fails you can set the difficulty down in the pause menu.

Do you have goty or the regular game?

Bobbleheads are always fun to hunt down (they're usually in interesting places) as well as skill books. Don't wait to long to get the Intelligence bobblehead from Rivet City. In fact I would recommend getting that and talking to Dr Li before fixing GNR for Three Dog as he gives you the key to a good stash.

If you do decide to blow up Megaton, get the Strength bobblehead from the Sheriff's house and start the Wasteland Survival Guide quest from Moria first.
Other good quests for loot and Perks: Replicated Man, Reilly's Rangers, and Those (provided you follow the scientist's instructions).

Try and find a good place to stash your loot, if you have goty some of the extra quests get you a safehouse and/or handy trunk. If you decide to blow up Megaton, you'll gat a safehouse elsewhere. Otherwise you can just use the lockers right outside Rivet City and/or one of the trash bins in the little town outside the vault.

I would recommend getting your Repair skill up by at least 5 points every time you level. This will allow you to make you weapons more powerful and also more valuable.
If you play as a good character then it's going to be hard no matter what you do.
If your a bad guy then I sujet killing one of the traders outside of Megaton and looting them. This should give you some good items and weapon and also some cash straight away.

Fallout 3 is a wanderer's game. A lot of the fun is had just by picking a direction and walking until you find something. Don't worry that you might not be doing it the right way. On my first playthrough I was level 14 before I got to Galaxy News Radio.
It seems overwhelming at first, but once you've finished one playthrough you'll want to start a second playthrough and the world won't seem to mindbogglingly huge.

What you should do is play the game by instinct. Don't read any long guides or do what other players tell you to. Just go out in the world and let the game take you away.

Ofcourse by telling you to do this I'm a victim of my own advice.. bugger.

You have a young Bill Hicks as your avatar, so you're still rolling in instant win, regardless :D
