I got fallout 3 ages ago, im talking not long after release, played it through to the end skipping all the side quests and being totally evil, needless to say i hated it. A few months after that i decided to give it another spin, ignored the main story, did some side quests and tryed to play it making choices as i myself would make them in that situatuion, I had a fair bit of fun but i still just ended up stopping playing and alot later on a made ANOTHER new game and decided to be all good, again, had a bit of fun but nothing amazing.

Then i see all the topics on here claiming the game is made out of solid gold, im not really sure why its never clicked for me, cos its the type of game i like and should be something i was really into.

So my question is this, what made fallout 3 a great game for you, and any tips on how i can improve my play experience.

*Edit* There fixed it, fucking grammar nazis..

Adition info:
I own it for console
I LOVE fps's *Edit* And rpg's, infact im playing oblivion as we speak.
Survival shooters are a personal favourite of mine

:O You don't think Fallout 3 is solid gold *shanks*

To be more serious, not every game that is praised by most will be liked by all. Take Mass Effect for example, everyone said it was brilliant, I thought it was just a poor quality shooter with blocks of text.

Looaddss of people think it sucks, you're not alone!

I did manage to leech some fun out of it recently by doing the quest to get a house straight away and then just exploring for ages. You can find some great stuff easily, like the chainsaw and alien blaster.

Once i found out that some quests meant others couldn't be completed it put me off though.
I'm a perfectionist and like to do as much as possible in one playthrough, but didn't have it in me to read a guide to do it.

Meh i have a similar problem with it...it's not that i don't like it, it's just i can't really get into it and play it for more than a couple of hours.

EDIT: Acctually, there was a time when i was really into it, i was just exploring about after completing a couple of side quests when i decided to pause the game and go get something to eat. I came back upstairs unpaused the game and the screen went black i was like ah damn my xbox has crashed, so i switch my console off and back on and BAM! Red Ring of Death...since then i havn't touched it.

I think what you've gotta do is just play, not try and enjoy it, if you know what I mean.

When I first got it, I wasnt a huge fan. But on my second playthrough, where I just did what I wanted for fun, I really started to enjoy it. Theres just so much to do, and so much story.
Plus, it does get more fun when you're not in constant danger of having no stimpacks, so I think the best time is around level 20, when you're not invincible, but not weak ass either :D

Let me fill in what he normally says here, a bit nicer.

It's your opinion, you may not like the game much, while others do. Everyone has a different opinion, and just because you don't like a game doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong. You simply don't like it.

Its all in what you look for in a game. Fallout 3 just doesn't hit that sweet spot for you. I know I never really cared for Bathesda games untill Fallout 3 came out. Oblivion is on my list of games I couldn't give a crap about.

Stick it out. Just play.

Took me a long while to get into it.

I bought the GotY Edition on release day.
False started by losing interest after a few hours and put it away.

Tried again and got into the main mission and finished quickly with no side quests.

Loaded a Save just before project Purity and began doing every side quest.

Now after 50+ hours, I can't stop playing.

Attempting the best Karma possible.
However, I had to kill Doctor Lesko because he irritated me. Nutjob.
Completed Archorage.
Collecting Bobbleheads.
Currently Level 17.

What started out to be a boring has become quite addictive.

It seems like it just isn't the game for you. People have different tastes, and some are bound to not like Fallout 3, just as some will not like every game in existence.

Sorry that you can't enjoy it.

After 60+ crash to desktops, a sense of complete indifference on Bethesda's part to fix the game, and one of the absolute most stupid endings I have ever seen for a "AAA" game...yeah, Fallout 3 redefined "hype" for me.

If you don't like people complaining about personal preference, why to you continue to be drawn into threads about it and not just ignore them?

Are you playing a vanilla game (or on a console)? No mods or DLC? If so, thats your problem.

Bethesda couldn't make a good vanilla game if their lives depended on it. Closest they ever came was morrowind.
Console, my pc isnt good enough to run fallout.

People have different opinions.

I thought it was very good, not amazing. Certainly substantial. It's got me excited for New Vegas anyway.

in the future newer buy a game for a console if that game has a lot of mods, better buy a difrent game or upgrade your pc.

I just wanted to use that comment. Thought about it previously and felt that it shouldn't be wasted.

Had never heard of fallout until fallout 3, i knew nothing about the series and had no idea that it would have a modding community, ive only become a highly pc orientated gamer in the past year so i knew nothing of mods when i was thinking about getting fallout 3 xD

I never got into it much, either. Don't worry, it doesn't mean something is wrong with you. My friends all thought it was the most godly thing ever created. I can see the appeal... Being the one Lone Wanderer, just you and your dog, slaying beasts and surviving out in the Great American Wasteland, but I didn't think the execution was great. Bethesda has never, ever impressed me with their storytelling skills, dialogue, or character models. There are some fun moments and interesting experiences to be had if you stick with it, but don't force yourself to if you're not feeling it. Your opinion being different doesn't make it dumb.

And remember kids, peer pressure is baaad! ;)
