I've probably made several posts on the site saying how much I enjoy/love Fallout 3. IMO it's a great game.

That being said, the difficulty is... Well, lacking at times. I enjoy the inventory management and I like trying different paths to get to the end with different skills, but if you get to level 30, you'll end up having 100 in MOST skills anyway, there's not a whole lot of choice there for WHERE your points go. Most of them will be the same.

As a sandbox "run around and shoot things then take their stuff" game it's pretty much perfect. Like "Just Cause" beyond that, there isn't much else. The overall story is short, even if you include the side-missions as part of the 'story' of the capital wasteland, its pretty repetitive after a while. Even after buying all the DLC I found myself taking long breaks from the game just so that when I go back to it it's fun again.

The item management, the character customization (to a point) and just how much fun it is to explore and find everything I can makes it a fun game. But I'll admit that it isn't perfect. For me, it puts me in a similar mindset that World of Warcraft did. The repetition may be too much at times, but it's still really fun to play.

Basically you have to like sandbox games, non-linear games, RPGs, FPS', and games that aren't too much of a challenge to enjoy Fallout 3.

I got fallout 3 ages ago, im talking not long after release, played it through to the end skipping all the side quests and being totally evil, needless to say i hated it. A few months after that i decided to give it another spin, ignored the main story, did some side quests and tryed to play it making choices as i myself would make them in that situatuion, I had a fair bit of fun but i still just ended up stopping playing and alot later on a made ANOTHER new game and decided to be all good, again, had a bit of fun but nothing amazing.

Then i see all the topics on here claiming the game is made out of solid gold, im not really sure why its never clicked for me, cos its the type of game i like and should be something i was really into.

So my question is this, what made fallout 3 a great game for you, and any tips on how i can improve my play experience.

*Edit* There fixed it, fucking grammar nazi's..

Adition info:
I own it for console
I LOVE fps's *Edit* And rpg's, infact im playing oblivion as we speak.
Survival shooters are a personal favourite of mine
Why did you not get it for PC?
Everyone knows mods are what make awsome games better! Especially with fallout 3, it has billions of ACTUALLY AWSOME mods. Like piloting tanks being Liberty Prime or controlling.
Enclave soldiers. If you want survival Horror, then there is nothing better than stalker
Would you kindly scroll up, where i have explained why i did not get it for pc.

as for you, OP, I think you just or skipped too much in both playthroughs, or Fallout simply isn't your thing.

Well if u didnt like Fallout 3 how could you like Oblivion??? Easily one of the most overrated games of all time, a complete let down in my opinion. I was a massive fan of Morrowind and oblivion was just a joke to be honest.

On Fallout 3 though, game tastes are personal, a lot of people love the game, whereas i know some people who hate it for one reason or another. Because other people liked it, doesnt mean you'll like if u play it there way, u just dont like it :).
Its all a matter of opinion, I cant really explain why i didnt like fallout, i wouldent even call it boaring cos it wassent, i just didnt enjoy the whole experience.

It's Nazis, not Nazi's.

On Topic though, I had a lot more fun exploring in the game, I think. Problem is that you're really being railroaded when you do the main quest, whereas you have more influence on the outcome of all the little side-quests.

Edit: Which makes it easier to create your own story within the game, which at least improves the immersion to me.

I loved it, but I think that could well say more about me than you, when I play a game I immerse myself quite deeply into it, hence the recent falling out with the FF franchise. As long as you can imagine the protagonist is yourself I'm all over it.

Someone mentioned Borderlands and gotta say I loved that too, FPS games are easier to immerse yourself into

I admit I played both PS3 and 360 to collect the trophies and achievements, but I got the Platinum trophy before the DLC appeared on PSN and I wont get it again just for those trophies.

For me, the side quests and exploring the wasteland were the best part. In fact, I've never finished the main quest and yet I've played well over 150 hours, just wandering the wastes and entering every building that I could. I even entered the simulation without having any idea of what was going on!
