So that means I can expect a semi-functional version by 2017, right?

now that I recall this does kind of seem to be a thing with bethesda games
Pretty much any franchise that doesn't involve annual iterations has this. And if it's a major studio, it has it in droves. It's not just Bethesda.

I know but there seems to be a "thing" with Bethesda games, maybe because they're a "legacy" studio, I mean when Skyrim came out the furore was palpable

Thanks to the bugs I still haven't been able to finish new vegas campaign.
Fallout 4 can wait.
Are you the type to bail out the moment you see a creature clipping into the environment or are you actually encountering quest bugs?

Why don't they just release it now then? I mean....it's ready to go, we paid for it already (alot of us at least), so give it to us.
Just because the first discs have been printed and boxed, it doesn't mean that they have done all of the other hundreds of thousands, let alone had those discs shipped from manufacturers to regional distributors, from there to the stores, had the discs taken, sorted, and ready to be stocked... There's still a lot of distribution work to be done, and they're in no rush. There's no advantage to trying to get it into the hands of consumers early, and a lot of hassle involved.

Plus, it does give them more time for the programmers to get the day one patch ready.

I had a Legionary Assassin squad clipping underground and following me everywhere, was pretty funny for a while. No fast travel and no resting took its toll though.

So when the inevitable hundreds upon hundreds of bugs and glitches are found, when Bethesda is forced to release an emergency day-1 patch, then day-2, day-3, day-4, basically a patch a day for a week or so are we allowed to assume that the bugs and glitches were meant to be in the game?!
That they've declared the game fully complete here, now, in October, and intend to do not a single penny's worth of control or testing until release?
With their track record, I'd never ever say a title is ready for launch. Because they never are.

Tcl (toggle collision) and tgm (toggle godmode) down there and beat the shit out of those legionaries!

But if you're on console you're boned.

Even without bugs anyone who has to deal with those legionary assassins has my condolences. 3 in a row last night! IN A ROW!

Yeah, I'm on PC, Steam locks you out of achievements on that save if you use dev console, so there's that, I wanted to 100% the bastard.

But there's no warrant it can't happen on consoles and you are screwed then. Even in Skyrim, I got stuck on the main quest, because a tripwire didn't snap, stayed there like a goddamn concrete string, and the hobo Blades guy in the sewers couldn't be escorted to the next checkpoint/script flag. TCL and AI pathfinding does not mix, luckily I had learnt my lesson by then with Bethesda games, and had 2352345346 saves, so I just fired up one before I entered the sewers, generating the level right that time.

I've spent so much time scrolling through devconsole solutions on Skyrim, it's not even remotely funny. Not to mention the goddamn dragon soul absorbing bug, where you had to go through a few lines to trigger it. Given it's a main gameplay feature, and the game throws those Cliffracers on steroids at you every 10 minutes, I wasn't a happy man.

And Fallout 4 is based on the same engine as Skyrim, so I won't even touch it until it's on sale with all the Dogmeat Ballistic Harness DLCs bundled.

Oh boy! This should be fun!

I will definitely wait it out though, i love bethesda games to death, but they need their initial fixes and such to be where they need to be. Plus, if i wait, it'll go on sale! Plus it'll give me that review buffer, as once the game is out, i'll be able to get a better overall idea of how good it is from people in general.

It will be very painful to wait tho, i'm super excited!

Akshually if you use console commands, you need only reboot the game, then achievements will work. Just last night I used a console command to revive a sentry bot to kill it for one of the GRA challenges. Rebooted the game and did the third challenge of that rank, bam got the 'cheivo. That's just a recent example.

I could be one of those lucky few, because I rarely if ever encounter quest-breaking bugs in Bethesda games. The four of which I've played. The worst of which was New Vegas which was a mess on release. But playable. But I am familiar with that soul absorption bug. I had the commands on hand for one of my post-dragonborn DLC playthroughs of Skyrim, too.

Still getting Fallout 4 on release though. Despite the negativity in this thread probably being justified, I'm just unable to restrain myself. My recent playthroughs of two most recent Fallout games have just reminded me of what made me love them in the first place so I'll probably find more than a few things to enjoy in this one. Let's hope I stay lucky when it comes to bugs.

Truly, there are few things sadder than being left behind as the hype train leaves the station.
At this point, I'm more hype about the train leaving without me than I would be about being on it.

It's refreshing to finally not give a damn for once, especially that XCOM 2 will probably consume a few hundred hours of my time on it's own.

I loved New Vegas but 3 was a real disappointment.
Seeing how Bethesda pretends that NV never happened and force 3 with all the shit it had into 4, including the dialog wheel, I kept losing all the hype with every new information we got.
Now I'll wait and download a demo to see it or wait until it's $5 on Steam.

Bethesda Game Studios are only about a nine hour drive away from me. I'm sure they won't mind if I drive all the way over there, break into the building, and grab myself I copy. It's clear they want me to do this, otherwise why would they tell me they have copies of a completed Fallout just lying around.

You should ask over Twitter if they allow visits, because I bet you could walk in and have a wander around after launch day when they won't be as protective of what they're working on.

I mean, why not?

I'll wait till the GOTY edition has a steam sale, in about 2 years probably but at least most of the bugs will be fixed or modded by then. But this is Bethesda, even now FO3 is a buggy mess.

Eh, I ran in to issues from time to time as well but I guess I am lucky because I've rarely had the issues that so many other people talk about. Usually just an odd side quest or NPC was was borked, usually fixed eventually. At least in open world games there is other stuff to do if an area doesn't work correctly. Not nearly as bad as more linear games where such issues can be a real road block.

I think some people underestimate how much instability even trivial mods can add. Not saying that makes it alright but it's something to consider.

I see the concept of a "release date" has eluded both Bethesda and the press, to consider this newsworthy or useful information at all. Oh, right. Hype piece.

And people wonder why I question the motives and integrity of gaming publications these days.
