Fallout 4: Los Angeles Boneyard or Boston Commonwealth?

This is not a Bethesda versus Obsidian thread, take that shit somewhere else. I present two options of potential Fallout 4 settings. The first is the Boneyard, former Los Angeles and a settlement in the New California Republic. Following the events of New Vegas, even if the NCR won in the Mojave campaign, it was clear that the NCR was stretched too thin. The NCR has a hard enough time controlling the bandits of California without dealing with the Mojave, so whats to stop the whole nation collapsing on itself in the meantime? It would be cool to see a fully functioning nation in Fallout falling apart rather than being built up like in New Vegas. And it would totally fit with the series theme of history repeating itself and nothing lasting forever.

The second option is the Commonwealth. Mentioned in Fallout 3, the Commonwealth is home to the Institute, mysterious builders of sentient androids. Also involved is The Railroad, an underground movement ferrying sentient androids away from their oppressive creators. This would be a great way to involve more mad science into Fallout with plenty of crazy robots, and the slave allegory would be worth analyzing in greater detail.

So take your pick and give a little explanation for why.

I'd actually prefer New York as the setting, namely because we know pretty much nothing about it. I'd like to see and explore what the Falloutverse's interpretation of a hyper nuclear punk center of the financial world would look like, especially after it got blowed up. The mystery factor alone is enough to sell me on it, since we'd have no set expectations due to there being no lore on the area. That would probably be for the better as well, as it would give more creative freedom to whoever is making it as there are no set expectations other then nuclear punk aesthetics and the remains of a fascist america after nuclear hell-fire.

The Commonwealth.

Bethesda would be stupid not to, it gives them a shitload more freedom regarding established lore and setting as well as playing to the FO3 fans. It also requires less arsepulls or handwaving to reuse characters they created (which, unfortunately for some, seems to already include Three Dog). Also, to be honest, Bethesda don't really have the chops for putting something as complex as the NCR scenario into action without half-arsing it like they did with Skyrim's civil war.

FO1 - California
FO2 - California
FOT - Mid-West
FOBOS - Texas
FO3 - DC
FONV - Nevada

We don't talk about that, it never happened and no story or game in Texas ever occurred.
You might not talk about it but I do. It's one of my favourite examples of Interplay's "let's shoot ourself in the face" period... along with 'sub'-licencing out the Infinity engine without Bioware's permission (or it might have been an early Aurora build... either way fucking idiocy).

Didn't Tactics start in California?
Nope, gets a mention in the intro about the airships and maybe refered to a couple times more.

As for BoS, never played it before, its hard to come buy, so I assumed it took place in Cali when I heard so.
It's terribad and was one of the (many) signs of Interplay's coming collapse. Seriously, it's one of the worst attempts at franchise leverage ever... worse than the new Syndicate or that The Bureau: XCom Sodomised thing. Total misunderstanding of the fanbase (at the time Fallout fans were considered some of the most rabid around).

Speaking of FOT, seeing as Squad Tatical games are a thing again, I'd like to see FOT 2... only this time allowing the developers a decent dev cycle, access to previous art assets and support for the game lasting long enough to get the game patched up to full functionality.

Someone get on that.

Personally, being a Californian native myself, I would love to see the next "Fallout" take place around the San Bernardino area if at all possible. Just because out here, we have a mix of industrial areas, and wide open spaces, not to mention (And not to sound like a typical Cali person) some malls that would be fun to explore in a post apocalyptic setting. And on a petty note, a chance to see my hometown as a decimated hell hole.

I'd love to F04 set in Boston. Less desert wastelands and Boston is a really pretty city now. The morbid part of me would like to see it in the aftermath of a nuclear war. Think of all the weird shit they could pull out with The Institute as well. Plus I could visit where I lived for a while.

I would say London, just because they have full freedom to create new stuff and see what the rest of the world went through, though I live in London also so i am biased. lol. Where ever the set the new game its a day one purchase for me.

Sadly, that would mean no continuity with the world we all know from the previous games. For Fallout universe British Isles may as well be on another planet, so there will be nothing familiar, nothing linking it with other titles.
That's not necessarily terrible, but that would be an entirely different game.

The Boston Commonwealth would be the best choice. It's relatively self-contained and was set up rather nicely back in F3. With fingers crossed, there might be a possibility to change up the scenery slightly.

It'd be fun as DLC material, certainly. Perhaps as part of an Institute colonial/scouting venture or something.

Personally, and I'm quite biased, I'd love to see a Fallout - Florida. Imagining the swamp post-nuclear sounds quite interesting. (Post-nuclear Disney World? Yes!) Plus mutant 'gators, Swamp Apes (Florida sasquatch) and other denizens of this strange land.

I thought Boston is where's its gonna be. Bethesda took lots of production photos there not too long ago, and We had the quest about the guy fron 'The Institute' in Fallout 3.

I am really torn, for I do enjoy the Fallout games and I think it might be interesting going to a new and possibly more diverse area. The problem is for me even if it is in a spot I find interesting unless the game has a new engine or rebuilt from the core of the current one I just can't see myself buying it. There has been too many lingering issues with Bethesda games and I just can't bring myself to support a game that I need to use fan fixes to play.

I'd love to see more of the east coast so I guess that puts me in the Commonwealth. Someone above mentioned New York but I don't see that as being anything other than a smoldering series of ruins...I guess DC was more or less that too...maybe New York's equivalent of Megaton will be far larger...or maybe New York City lives on as some kind of Super Vault?

I'd like to see china, they have talked about all the destruction in the Americas but nothing about the other Waring nation. We have Chinese invaders still walking around in FO3 so why not see what happened in china. With all the interesting parts of china it could be a great place to explore. I've always been curious about china I wanna see china.
