I hope it'll just be your character getting a voice and nothing else of huge note. Mass Effect style conversations where the camera flops about and creates more of a scene would be an improvement over the locked eyes nonsense. And would add the option of conversations involving more than two people.
In a sense all Fallout/TES characters were "set" anyway. Sure you got to modify the hell out of them, but they were the Nerevarine, Vault Dweller, Dragonborn, Lone Wanderer... etc. It's probably the same dealy happening here. He's the 'Cool Vault Duderoo' only he comes with a voice module.
I'm not too fussed about the main character being voiced though I would like to customize him or her, not that it matters anyway. I will likely put on a badass looking helmet at some point and call it a day. That said I had no trouble identifying with my crazy elderly black Saint's Row 2 character with a cockney accent. And it was just as swell in Saint's Row 3 when he had a sex change into a crazy blonde Russian lady.

Bethesda always runs with the generic male protagonist in their promotional material. It was the same with Fallout 3 (and the ending of the trailer heavily mirrors the main promotional image of Fallout 3 with the Vault Dweller walking into the sunset with Dogmeat at his side) and Skyrim (with Iron Armor Guy).Vault101 said:

Seriously though, the trailer underwhelmed me pretty hard. I saw nothing in it that couldn't have been DLC for a PS4 port of Fallout 3. I get that there is only so much wiggle room within this canon before it *gasp* strays too far into original content. Unlike the Elder Scrolls, where they can pretty much say "a wizard did it" to retcon everything and zip to the far future or past to get a fresh setting Fallout's timeline is pretty fixed barring time machines.
You aren't going to see much if any pre-nuke gameplay, although the trailer hints possibly at otherwise. You also aren't going to be playing far enough into the future for it to actually be futuristic, the wasteland be fully reclaimed and law & order restored along with pure water. That wouldn't be a Fallout game anymore than a game with murderous Slinkys is going to be the new Twisted Metal.
I mean they did have aliens right? Anything might happen, but from the trailer all I got was more of the same game I already played twice with enough game breaking bugs to fill multiple console generations of games combined.

Well, here's a thought. They spent ALOT of time in that trailer showing alot of pre-war events... Maybe its a mix. Your wasteland survivor is you, your character, make 'em like always. But maybe there's sequences back before the war where you play as one of your ancestors, who can be static and voiced and all that fine because your exploring his story, not yours. Just a thought.

Even if the main character is fully voice acted, which I doubt because Bethesda, that doesn't matter at all to the character's customization.

I've really been sourcing evidence. Found a narrative transcript that seems to make sense. Even pictures the male protagonist on the front and this was leaked prior to the trailer. Even makes sense in correlation with the trailer, and all signs in that indicate a male only, set backstory protagonist.

It's a Bethesda game. They pioneered character customization. It's their shtick that has been around since the 90's and that's saying something with a development studio.
