Isn't the next one in Las Vegas? That's what I want in the next Fallout. Getting the chance to put a bullet through the slot machine that just ripped me off, and have it land in the head of a Super Mutant would be pretty awesome...

Not to be mean or anything, but what does that have to do with any of this? This is about Fallout, granted they were made by the same people, but seriously. Add some context next time. Don't just type the name of a game you'd like.

One thing I'd like redone (and I believe Yahtzee mentioned this in Extra Punctuation), is the conversation threads. For me, it seems weird that Bethesda wants to take the idea of "face-to-face" conversation a bit too literally. Sometimes, I catch myself shrinking back when a conversation starts and the camera quick zooms to someone's ugly mug. I would prefer the style of KoTOR when the person was looking off-camera at the main character. Not only that, but then you got to see the main character answer back. With all the hard work I spent perfecting my char's face, it'd be nice to see it on-screen more often.

As for locations, I think the time is right to go international. Where have we been in the past few games? Southern California(F1); Reno, San Francisco, and Oregon(F2); Chicago and the surrounding areas (Tactics); DC and most of Maryland (F3); Pittsburgh (The Pitt); and Alaska(Operation Anchorage).

Other than Texas, New York and Vegas, there's really no other place I can think of in the U.S. to do a decent story in. My vote is China.

I knew there was something I forgot to add. Yeah, a better conversation piece would be better. That's one thing I didn't like about it. Too close in, ugly faces, same voice..man that got old quick, and some new options of how to reply to things would be nice. Like the ability to just throw the entire conversation out of the window. Example: " So how did you get the ---- " and you could go " Banana cream pie! " as maybe a joke or something and make the other character freak. Just something funny to liven things up or make you feel a bit better. I don't know, I have weird ideas.

i don't really need another fallout game i have fallout three
think about what fallout vegas will have,
the same broken buildings that you can't explore now with half broken lights attached
/\
don't get me wrong though fallout 3 is a fantastic game, in fact i played it some more today
but i do think an entirely new game is not necessary, I'm fine with just more expansion packs
maybe a big 20$ one for Vegas like they did with gta

**edit** not to mention there are other apocalypse games out there / coming out ,like Rage (which ID is now owned by Bethesda)

I'd like to see a bigger and more diverse wasteland (the DC ruins are pretty small compared to the first two games), larger towns (two hundred years and everyone is still living in shacks?), and a more robust and built-in party system with tactical options during combat. Basically make the game more like the first two while still retaining the first-person style Bethesda is good at.

Also, the game lacks information displays. There should be more detail and more options about everything. I want to know how much damage my gun does per shot and what it's range is (the game's DAM is actually a misleading display for DPS). Multiple damage types and corresponding armors, variable weapon ammo, weapon mods, etc. I'm not against simplification, I just think the information should be available to those who want it without hacking the system files.

choosing different background possibilities that determine more about the character you are: For instance, you could start as a vault dweller, a broken steel knight, an enclave soldier, a wastelander, or an asshole slaver / raider. They would have different sub-classes divided under each background possibility that would define the possible ways to play the game. I.E.: The Enclave or Broken Steel characters could be knights/tanks/marksman, etc. ; the raiders could be the thief/ranger, etc. ; the wastelander or vault dweller could have classes ranging in between with vault dwellers specializing in technology/computers/hacking, etc. while the wastelanders could specialize in human interaction/barter/extra rad resistance, etc. I dunno. Just broad strokes that I think could be a cool idea

You know what? Fuck you. We've had a good five games in the Fallout Series set in North America, Fallout: London would be a welcome change. It's called fucking innovation, or "new ideas", people. MIX IT UP A BIT. Like Canada, that would have an interesting dynamic, less guns would be around and in Canada there would probably be a bit more foliage, especially if 4 is set chronologically after 3.

3 was set QUITE A WHILE after the bombs were dropped, enough for most of the nuclear FALLOUT to go away and for plant life to re-grow.

Alastair Tenpenny was from England, so we know that it's still a bit inhabitable. Plus the BoS probably haven't explore much out of the US, so they could've gone there to find new technology that the BRITISH military left behind. Yes, us tea drinking scone munching yellow teethed primitive limeys also have a military!

And last of all, please don't make the BoS into the generic good guys again. In the first two they weren't particularly nice, they were just trying to find new technology, and were JUST as elitist as the Enclave.

More of the same, but different locale and story would suite me fine.

I would want:
-Continue FPS style
-Use stats more like Fallout 1&2 than the 3 method
-More weapons; it's okay to have more than 1-2 guns that use the same ammo type
-More accurate weapons: I like being able to hit things past 10 yards. To compensate, give enemies longer range perception. Oh yeah, and laser rifles need to not suck so much.
-More character interaction
-More exploration element; make vaults bigger and more expansive, potentially have sub-plots based around derelict vaults/ruins (examples: Vault 15 and Sierra Army Depot from Fallout 2)
-Setting: There are a lot of options here. It might be interesting to see it take place in a downtown environment, with block after block of huge skyscrapers (hopefully with less blocked streets this time, and more expansive above-ground building exploration). Most major cities could do this.
-Radioactivity: amount depends a bit on timeline, but there should be less emphasis on it than in 3. Essentially, only a few big areas and much of the food would give radiation, and ideally the player wouldn't start with a Geiger counter to know about it (so it should take longer to accrue, but be harder to detect; make player actually pay attention to Radiation symbols).
-Inventory: Actually, I'm a little divided on this one. While I kinda appreciate the limited ammo storage when it has weight, the weightless ammo system was also damned convenient. Either one works, I suppose, as long as they keep it close to any of the existing Fallout inventory systems.

I could agree with this. The Brotherhood of Steel was always the "Good Guys" but they've also had some moral ambiguity. Even as late as Tactics, many members came off as bloodthirsty, racist, elitist, and uncaring to the plight of those living in the wastes. Frankly, I find that more appealing and easier to relate to than the cartoony "Good Guy" feel they had in Fallout 3.

Edit: I also agree with Grampy_bone up there, more information displays would be nice; all the previous Fallout games had a full list of stats for every weapon as well as a brief (occasionally sarcastic) written description of every item. It'd be nice to see more of that charm and humor that was lacking in #3.

Fallout 3 is almost perfect with mods. Only thing I would like to change is the main story. It seemed a bit convoluted and it should not include the BOS or Enclave. In Fallout 2, it seems like the Enclave had been finished, yet they suddenly came back in full force in Fallout 3. That annoyed me a bit.
You have to remember that Fallout 3 is based about 30 or so years after fallout 2. Maybe the enclave rebuilt themselves in that time. There is a big gap between fallout 2 and 3, maybe that gap might be brodged somehow in Fallout: New Vegas.

Well seeing as how everything was reduced to ruble I don't think it would matter where the game takes place geologically. Now time period is another thing. I know Operation Anchorage takes place during the start of when the nuclear shit hits the atomic fan but I think Fallout 4 would make a good prequel. You could be a new recruit in the military and as the game goes on and you get into more wars and all that good stuff that you do in Fallout 3 (stealing, pickpocketing, good or bad deeds, etc.. Then it could end with a huge bang when all the nukes hit killing your character and everyone else around or at least turning them into ghouls.

Or an MMORPG is always nice.

Was that bit with the cookie sarcasm?

Anyway, I'd go with the Canada DLC too.
It was a major part of the backstory, after all

Still, they could tone down the power of....power armor.
What, even further? To the point that it is completely useless?
The Power Armor was made to replace TANKS. In the first two games, PA was super effective.
In FO3, it's largely useless, due to the fact that it is heavy, and the Ranger Battle Armor outclasses the BoS stuff.
