Fallout: NV.... Something very wrong.

my ps3 copy of Fallout 3 has locked up on me 3 times. and i can only name 3 bugs on the top of my head. one of them quest braking.

My Fallout New Vegas is the worst WORST ps3 game i have ever had in my computer. the crashed and lockups are in a word. unacceptable. and honest if Obsidian does not fix them soon i Will blacklist them for all eternity

oh and btw im hardcore fallout fan. but even i cannot endorse this S**t

A ps3 is not a computer.

If you are a "hardcore fan" as you say you are, you would looks pass the flaws of this game such as the bugs and glitches and have fun with it.

you are missing the point. Ps3 and xbox are "meant" to be perfect. there are no driver issues, compatibility stones and ect. games are not meant to crash on them. and you try to enjoy having 2 hours erased from your life due to some QA persons not doing there job in the first place

Consoles are in no way perfect they are sometimes hard to program for for one and their's many other factors you got to take in aswell.

For example Risen on the xbox 360 is one of the worst pc to console ports ever made and it has double the glitches and problems that the pc version has.

The only reason in fallout's case why the console ports of the game have glitches and bugs isn't a problem with the jump from pc to console but with Bethesda's admittedly shitty Gamebyro engine. If it isn't shit already the Gamebyro is not designed for use on consoles that the reason why the console ports have suffered.

but did you know what? I have had five crashes (that's right five) all in a space of a afternoon. Did you know what I did every time it crashed. No not go on a forum and rant about it or snap the disc in half but gave a huge sigh turned my ps3 off then on again and played it again. That's something I wouldn't normally do but with a game this good i really don't care if their's a few irregularities with my game. Sure their bad but unless you turn on autosave or you save often you will be ready to take more epic wasteland adventures from where you left off.

This day and age you can be lucky that the game can be patched in the olden days many games stayed glitchy and unfinished. Their's even old commodore 64 games that you couldn't complete because of a gaming bug or that the tape would refuse to load completely after waiting quarter of a hour for it to load.

The game is being patched more soon and maybe those freezes will be gone who knows, but please don't post about hating the game you are just ruining the experience for other people who do like it for what it is.

you've summarized why I didn't jump on the band wagon. I was super happy that I didn't get it as soon as I saw the bug footage and all of my friends complaining of corrupt game data and other randomness. why pay full price for something that takes weeks to debug? as I said in a previous thread on the subject 'It's like buying a car with an engine made of gummy bears.'

According to their legend, this evil arose in the far east, in Maryland, Zenimax. It corrupted all it touched, twisting gamers inside, turning them into Oblivion fanboys. Only through the bravery of this ''Chris Avellone'' was the evil destroyed. But in so doing, he lost many of his friends and suffered greatly, sacrificing much of himself to save the gaming industry.

When at last he returned to the company he had fought so hard to evolve, he was criticized. Flamed. In confronting that which they feared, he had become something else in their eyes...and no longer their champion. Forsaken by his fans, he strode into the wasteland. He had many interviews, until he came to one of the fansites. There, he founded a small community, NMA, where he lived out the rest of his years. New Vegas is like Fallout 3, except MORE of it. If you liked Fallout 3, you will like New Vegas just as much.

And for the record: Fallout would not be Fallout with all the stupid bugs and glitches and whatnot.

Actually, refreshment=/=hydration. Real-life soft drinks contain a lot of sugar, and are basically inabsorbable as a hydrate. So short-term you feel better, but your overall fluid levels are, for the most part, unchanged. It all just comes out as waste.

but anyways the vanilla game is actually filled with more content than fallout 3, better check your data again there, and fallout 3 was a flat piece of crap so the shit was so spread out while new vegas has actual different land structures so shit isn't so spread out.

honestly it took me about 8 times to actually like fallout 3, before that i hated it every time, but i loved new vegas right away so that just proves its not an expansion pack and it actually is much better imo than the previous installment.

New Vegas is massively better written and more cleverly designed than Fallout 3 was, and has quests that really force the player to think. It also allows for more replayability because there are so many ways to make a character and the constricted skill development means being a jack-of-all-trades isn't an option.

Fallout 3, on the other hand, is just more fun in the pure sense. I could (and do) listen to Galaxy News Radio for hours without getting sick of it, and Three Dog is one of my all-time favorite game characters. His infectious enthusiasm permeates the game world and makes it feel more like a place I want to spend (virtual, not real!) time. Sure, the quests are shallow as a kiddie pool but the gameplay's crisper and more streamlined.

Truth be told, I love both games. And if New Vegas gets a few DLC packs and works the bugs out, it's got a chance to be an all-time classic like its predecessor.

Fallout new vegas for me was like fallout 2
Fallout one started it all and fallout 2 was kind of remastered version with better story more humor more stuff to do and obviously more bugs.
For me any fallout game without gamebreaking bugs is not a fallout game at all.
Thats the reason I hated tactics and BOS.
Fallout 3 is new gens fallout 1 and fallout NV is new gens Fallout 2

I don't love New Vegas, for many of the reasons you stated. Some people are just more critical than others.

Ok, Fallout New Vegas has been out for a while and everyone seems to love it. My question is why ? People seem to be running around blinded by nostalgia about Fallout games, ignoring its many and obvious faults.

The game itself is only 6GB's which is half the size of Fallout 3. The game is essentially one big copy and paste, many of the textures and and environments reused. The vault you find in New Vegas is such a clear copy and paste its laughable and the world is tiny, and not even a sandbox.

I know its all open free... technically but the game controls where you go by having immensely overpowered mobs herding your movements. So you can really only take one path throughout the wastelands. Its really linear gameplay, any attempt to break out and go on your own usually bugs the main quest which is also, very easy to do. The game punishes you for taking choices it doesn't approve off or heading in directions it doesn't like. A friend of mine managed to sneak past the Deathclaws and make it to New Vegas early on. Only to have the main quest instantly update to catch up, skipping 50% of the content and then crashing.

Speaking of broken quests, the game is laughably buggy, to the point where its almost unplayable if you don't heavily mod and patch it. Huge amounts of crashes and bugs that break any real immersion. The quest themselves ant much better, one you remove all the "Go to A and talk to B" quests there are less than probably 10 proper side quests with any real detail. About the same total quests as Fallout 3 had in Megaton.

The game reeks of expansion pack material padded out to be resold as a full price game, this wouldn't be too bad if people weren't eating up with their "I <3 Fallout" glasses on. The series was great yes but this is a sad and shallow addition too it which uses humor to hide its failings. Even the humor itself is weak with often no attempt to fit them in with context. "A supermutant with a wig... yeah sounds awesome, throw it in. Or I know! Ghoul space explorers!" Being thrown in because of the lols, even breaking some established ideas to do so. Like Glowing One ghouls no longer doing radiation damage.

People should try and judge these games that piggyback off previous success's without the rose tinted view or the love for the series blinding their judgement. Take off the fallout 3 label and call it "Wasteland Tales" and then this game wouldn't of even made it past launch.

Anyway, rant over.

it's like fallout three but with much more content in a smaller space so not to bore you as much and improves on aspects of fallout three such a rip of... oh wait THAT'S A SEQUEL also we all know that Bethesda releases buggy as hell games and fixes them later and we complain about it but that's like a man pissing in your cereal every morning and you eating the cereal and going why did you piss in it ya of course he isn't meant to piss in your cereal but your the one who drank it and quests which are more about trying to solve things verbally and role playing in a role playing *smacks self in face* that is evil and the game returning to it's ROOTS and trying to be light hearted who tries to sow respect for their source material also nearly every RPG limits your movement on the map till you don't need to wear nappies because the game is trying to suitably introduce new players to old story elements and introducing the change in gameplay slowly as not to alienate us as well as making the game a hell of a lot more balance as to make the game challenging for those that are looking for it but still keeping it easy enough for the average player.

Now that I have finished my rant I hope we can have a civil debate over this and come up with a agreement.

How would it not? You install it, you play it. Suddenly a quest is added to deliver a package to New Vegas and...voila! Fallout 3 New Vegas.

I was thinking more in terms of how the mechanics work in the new game, it's not as simple as plonking your character onto a new map.

You have the new perks, reputation with factions, and the first few quests seemed fairly reliant on the fact that the player had no resources to start with. Baring in mind I've only played the first few quests so far, so there could be more or less points than what I'm mentioning.

If you're starting from scratch either way and it's about the size of a full new game, they might as well just make it a new game.
Personally I have no problem with it just being "more" Fallout 3, they seemed to have polished up a lot of stuff and added enough new content to make it worth it. That's all sequels are most of the time, big expansion packs.

Far more quests than F3

Far more characters and interaction than F3

Changes to skill systems at a fundamental level, for example Repair skill works differently, Big Guns now falls under Guns, etc

Dialogue options influenced by skill choices offering more ways to achieve goals

Hardcore mode

New companion system

Multiple complex story paths

Completely different tone, lighter and cheerier than F3, more akin to the originals

More difficult, tactical levelling system

More difficult geographical layout due to high level baddies, again akin to the original games

Now I still prefer F3 overall, but to suggest NV is a glorified expansion just seems like a lazy critique to me.

This is an amusing thread to watch, if only because the people that like Fallout: New Vegas are honestly acting more trollish than the people that don't. So somebody doesn't like the game you like. Big deal. That doesn't make them trolls. They're legitimately disappointed or disillusioned with the game. They aren't enjoying it the way you are. That doesn't make them trolls either. The fact that they seem to be in the minority and are curious as to why? Also not trolling.

So, seriously, get over it and stop acting like a bunch of mindless fanboys because somebody disagreed with your assessment of a game. Everybody has the right to an opinion, regardless of whether you like it or not.
