Hello escapateers!

So, let's say the fallout MMO was out, will I meet you there?
Would you drop your WOW or EVE accoun to play it or next to it? Or, do you think the MMO scene is full enough as it is and will Fallout just be 'another' MMO title? Like to hear your thoughts.

I already sold my soul to Old Republic.

*shows the copy of her deed*

See. Signed in blood. Right there.

Which means I can't play Fallout, lest the heavens open and smite me. Or a ninja squirrel severs my jugular in my sleep. Dunno which one.

Well first off you shouldn't assume that we all play WoW or Eve online (or any other MMO for that matter). Personally Fallout is one of the only settings in which an MMO would hold any interest to me so I shall wait and see, at the very least I shall be getting the trial, and I have also signed up for the beta.

I don't like subscription fees so the trial would have to impress me a hell of a lot for me to even consider buying it.

Nope. I'm exclusively a console gamer and non-MMO player. And I'm not really into the Fallout universe, as I haven't played any of its games.

Hmm. Looks like an interesting concept, but I can't see it working. How would VATS work? Or factions, come to that? It doesn't seem like a very good universe to set an MMO in, frankly, seeing as the games seem to be more about surviving than action/adventure.

What made Fallout 3 so atmospheric was the loneliness. Walking empty streets in ghost towns, hearing the wind whistle between dead buildings and the occasional blare of music from a passing eyebot...if you add in a few million other players, all that goes away.

If it has a free trial(like EVE Online)I will try it

But I'm pretty sure I will not pay monthly fee to play it. Only MMO I would pay that fee is EVE Online, but they don't sell any time cards here in Finland :(

I am sure that there will be no VATS, from what I know, Interplay is making it, but I think it will be weird to see hundreds or thousands of people in a post-apocalyptic setting.

Three words: Monkey Butt Mine.

So no, I am not looking forward to it and plan to avoid it like the plague now.

You wouldn't find it odd to meet thousands of people at a time when the human race has been pretty much wiped out?

VATS is specific to Fallout 3, these are (some) of the people who developed Fallout 1 & 2. Back then it was turn based, you got a number of Action Points(like used in VATS) to move and shoot with based on your Agility and whatnot. While i doubt it would be a turn based MMOrpg, it doesn't necessarily have to be a FPS either. We'll have to wait for some gameplay trailers or the beta to see.

I was in a hurry when I was writing, I wanted to say " I think it will be weird", but multi-tasking, doing 8 things at one and stuff.

Though I never played them, I had heard about the turn-based nature of the old games, but I think that would be even harder to play with than VATS in an MMO. I suppose VATS could act as some sort of bullet time affecting only the person you were targetting, but that would be horrendously overpowered. I just don't see either method working, and certainly not an FPS; given how much old-school Fallout fans like to complain about 3, I think there would be a tidal wave of Nerd Rage if the game became an FPS ;-) (for the record, I don't consider Fallout 3 to be an FPS. Yes, you could play from a first person perspective and yes, you shot people, but the addition of VATS, the overall crappiness of the guns and the lack of focus on hectic combat make it different, IMO)

Fair enough.

This Interplay made Fallout: Tactics and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, both considered non-canon and two of the worst Fallout games in the series. Oh! And they aren't developing alone, they signed up another company to help them... Masthead Studios of whom hasn't released a single game yet and is working on a game of their own apparently, Earthrise. This doesn't exactly inspire confidence if they sign up a company to help them, a company that hasn't produced a single game yet.

They're even using Masthead's toolset and not Interplay's own, but I've been proven wrong before and it's still too early to make a clear call.
