Heh. Perhaps now we'll have a TV series to stick next to the likes of FF7.
In that both fanbases will be demanding a remake for years after the fact; and nobody who matters will be listening.
Except FF7 got a bunch of pointless spinoffs that are worse than the Star Wars prequel trilogy.
Firefly, is as of yet, untainted. And I hope it stays that way.
Aye.
Though it's the point that the fanbases will continue to clamor for this for years after the fact regardless.
Hell, there's still a sizable mob of fans demanding that Squeenix remake FF7 DESPITE all the aforementioned abuse you brought up.

Of course, I'm also of the mind that has turned entirely on the idea of a FF7 remake. Squeenix had its chance, and not only blew it, but burned their bridge entirely with me.

Yeah, well, most of them actually LIKED those spinoffs (blindly) so of course they still want a remake.
But actually, the fact that Square came out and said, "We will not be remaking it," was kind of admirable. I mean, it doesn't redeem Square, but at least they know to leave that treasure alone and not touch it with remakes.

But back on topic, here's the thing... If Joss Whedon doesn't want to revive Firefly, then why force the issue? Sure, someone else can do it, but will it have the same charm? I'd be skeptical. Especially with Wash and Book dead... Serenity broke the status quo, and while that was brave and admirable, it also meant that even if Firefly was revived, it would NOT be the same.

As a sci-fi fan who grew up with Stargate and Star Wars, and as someone who adores games like Mass Effect, I can honestly say...

I don't care. Firefly, I thought, was really really REALLY bad.

This.
Wash wouldn't be in it.
End of story.

It's amusing how many people are chiming in with 'good, it was a bad show, I didn't like it'. If the show was that much of a waste of time, why give it a second glance?

Beautiful thing about Firefly. It's a beacon. Whether you're one of the people who loved it or people who didn't, you can't help but listen and chime in when it gets mentioned. It always gets people talking, even so long after the fact.

That's why it'll never die. And neither will our hope for more.

I dunno whether there should be any more. Between the series and movie Firefly is kinda perfect. More of it, especially after so long would probably just ruin it.

The real crime is that it was taken off of air in the first place. Networks can be unbelievably stupid.

We're never going to see new Firefly, and I'm kind of glad. Firefly is an amazing series, but after Serenity I really don't see a new series being nearly as good. Serenity was the big finally, and when Whedon ends a show, he ENDS it.

I still refuse to watch Firefly because I will not set myself up for disappointment. Why even subject myself to pain you guys feel for its death for something that will not be that impressive to me.

As much as I'd love this show to come back, I don't think it's going to happen. Personally, if the show had gone past the first season, it could have spiraled into nothingness. I think we should keep it as an amazing show of the past and keep it that way.

Why does it even need to follow on from Serenity?

Buffy the show had it's own continuity that didn't quite match up with the movie (thank god), there's no really Firefly couldn't pick up where it left off or even have a reboot.

Yeah, it could get bad. So can everything else. If the possibility of failure was enough to keep people from doing things humanity would have gone extinct long ago.

I haven't seen anything to say Joss doesn't want to do it. Maybe he's moved on, but so far the only thing that's been concretely said is that he isn't associated with the fan revival movement. Anything else is just speculation.

Belief is the key in all of this. Fox never really believed in Firefly so they gave it crappy time slots, and showed it out of order. Consequently the already somewhat odd show seemed even odder, and not in the arguably good way that the fans have come to know and love, and people didn't watch it. This caused bad ratings, which confirmed Fox's suspicions that the show was "bad". So it was canceled.

Buffy should have been so lucky and X-Files wishes it had ended as well as Buffy.
And they didn't even let Buffy die. Have you seen the comic books? Ugh...

When are you going to learn to stand-up for your work?
It ain't over yet!

As long as we keep the idea alive, Firefly can still make a comeback! Even if Joss has lost faith.

well wth else has joss done since angel that was good aside from doctor horrible, tho dr horrible imo was good in small doses hardly something i would want to watch all the time, all his recent series have been pretty darn weak. he would be smart to get on board if there was any hope, still a lot of loose ends that were left in the series that were never tied up in the movie, and still alot of material to be had from that verse, like the fallout of the broadcast after the movie, and what the alliance would do to them etc, not like the ending of serenity was the grand fall of the alliance.

I'm on the side of, "Let the specific show die, but not the universe." My fellow Browncoats, let's be honest with ourselves, the story of the Serenity is over, and the movie was the fine ending it deserved. But that doesn't mean another, different tale can't be told. Buffy had Angel. Star Trek had TNG, Deep Space 9, and yes, even Voyager and Enterprise. Stargate had SG-1 and Atlantis. And while the prequels were crap, Star Wars may have the most expansive extended universe of them all in all its books, games and other media, and there are plenty of diamonds in that rough. So I think any revival efforts should be geared towards building a broader, larger setting for the Firefly universe, and if fans are so desperate to see it on TV again, lets push for something akin to a "TNG for Firefly": new ship, new crew, same universe and spirit. Serenity's crew are far from the only privateers and Browncoat veterans in the 'verse, as I'm sure you remember. Even Mal acknowledged his ultimate dream of independence was dead, but he still goes on doing what he can to survive and keep the spirit alive. Browncoats, we've lost our Battle of Serenity Valley. Let's face that fact: Firefly itself is dead. But together, let's keep the universe and it's independent spirit alive!

Actually, thinking about it, as disappointed as I am that this fell through, reviving the show isn't what we're after here. It's the characters and the setting that made us love the show. What we want is more stories in this universe, with those characters. This could easily be accomplished with something less expensive than a TV show, like a comic.

Failing that, there's always fanfics.
