When are you going to learn to stand-up for your work?
It ain't over yet!

As long as we keep the idea alive, Firefly can still make a comeback! Even if Joss has lost faith.

well wth else has joss done since angel that was good aside from doctor horrible, tho dr horrible imo was good in small doses hardly something i would want to watch all the time, all his recent series have been pretty darn weak. he would be smart to get on board if there was any hope, still a lot of loose ends that were left in the series that were never tied up in the movie, and still alot of material to be had from that verse, like the fallout of the broadcast after the movie, and what the alliance would do to them etc, not like the ending of serenity was the grand fall of the alliance.

I'm on the side of, "Let the specific show die, but not the universe." My fellow Browncoats, let's be honest with ourselves, the story of the Serenity is over, and the movie was the fine ending it deserved. But that doesn't mean another, different tale can't be told. Buffy had Angel. Star Trek had TNG, Deep Space 9, and yes, even Voyager and Enterprise. Stargate had SG-1 and Atlantis. And while the prequels were crap, Star Wars may have the most expansive extended universe of them all in all its books, games and other media, and there are plenty of diamonds in that rough. So I think any revival efforts should be geared towards building a broader, larger setting for the Firefly universe, and if fans are so desperate to see it on TV again, lets push for something akin to a "TNG for Firefly": new ship, new crew, same universe and spirit. Serenity's crew are far from the only privateers and Browncoat veterans in the 'verse, as I'm sure you remember. Even Mal acknowledged his ultimate dream of independence was dead, but he still goes on doing what he can to survive and keep the spirit alive. Browncoats, we've lost our Battle of Serenity Valley. Let's face that fact: Firefly itself is dead. But together, let's keep the universe and it's independent spirit alive!

Actually, thinking about it, as disappointed as I am that this fell through, reviving the show isn't what we're after here. It's the characters and the setting that made us love the show. What we want is more stories in this universe, with those characters. This could easily be accomplished with something less expensive than a TV show, like a comic.

Failing that, there's always fanfics.

There still are comics in production, with The Shepherd's Tale having just come out.

So there's hope.

"You mean Buffy in space?"

Oddly, this is how I got into Firefly. I worked with a number of people who were into Firefly. After seeing another trailer for Serenity which involved Summer Glau beating up people, I (semi-timidly because they seemed to be really into it) asked "So, is this like Buffy in Space?".

Showing themselves to be Browncoats, they did not take offense but insisted that I watch the DVD with the pilot. This got me to don the brown coat and buy the DVD set. I then got another of my friends to do that as well as watch Serenity in the theaters, partially to see it and partially to show support. Buying the DVD of Serenity was the last gasp at trying to make the studios see the light and continue the series.

But, sometimes, that just isn't enough. Sometimes you gotta hang up the guns and move on much like most people moved on after Calvin & Hobbes. At least, Firefly's episodes are out on DVD. Shows like Mortal Kombat: Konquest and Brimstone didn't even get that.

Seriously? The fans are just now moving on with their lives? And some people are still refusing to accept that the show isn't coming back? That's incredibly sad.

If you really, absolutely must have more space western, allow me to recommend Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, and Outlaw Star, the three shows that Whedon more or less admitted to ripping off when he made it. That's like three more seasons of Firefly! And if the fact that they're anime bothers you, you're not just a sad nerd, you're a sad, nerdy, hypocrite.
