http://moroccoworldnews.com/2012/04/36769/farewell-intercourse-law-egypt-drafts-measure-to-allow-husbands-to-have-sex-with-dead-wives/

Edit: hmm now that you mention it i did hear about this story first on TMZ and that alone should have put up at least 18 red flags right there so take this with a grain of salt

I saw this the other day on the BBC when I was with my girlfriend.
We both agreed that this was probably the most backwards, sexist, derogatory and disrespectful practice allowed by law.
Also, ewww, icky.

I don't think you can call it sexist. It also allows women to have sex with their dead husbands.

How that works exactly I'm not sure, except for some pretty specific cases of rigor mortis...

This is not how it's been reported by any news site I've seen, but I'd be willing to take back calling it sexist if this is true.
Doesn't make it any less repugnant though.

Bad Escapists! Bad! When something seems too messed up to be true, you fact-check it. It only takes a few seconds to Google the truth. On the other hand, playing fact-checker around here is pretty fun, so maybe it's in my best interest if you guys continue being terribly irresponsible news consumers.

(Here's a hint: when a Moroccan news agency has to cite the freaking Huffington Post (for god's sake!) about events supposedly taking place in Egypt, that is a bit suspicious.)

What a great way for them to spend their government's time and money...there are no words for the stupidity surrounding this nonsense.

That said, I remember reading about a paternity case of a woman who was pregnant by a man who was dead at time of conception.

How? Well, she was the morgue person, and he got an erection, and she thought "Eh, why not?" and mounted it, and... well.

We need to embrace other cultures and allow them the same freedoms they enjoy in their homelands... um, hmm.

Kinda like that story about the Rabbinical court in Jerusalem who sentenced a dog to death because they said it was the reincarnation of a lawyer who insulted them. Pretty sure Jews don't believe in reincarnation to begin with.
Hasidim do believe in reincarnation. I never found out what the deal was with that particular story, but frankly you hear of worse things happening in places like Mea Shearim.

So, yeah. We really can believe ANYTHING about Egypt. Next thing, you'll tell me they're the ONLY one of the Middle Eastern countries to have peace with (and recognition of) the State of Israel.

[edit: The peace treaty is, in fact, true. They brokered peace in exchange for the Suez canal. Don't hate Egypt.]

The thing that creeps me out even more than the necrophilia is the lowering the age of consent that the law also (apparently) does.

Thankfully, it apparently isn't real.

I scanned the linked second debunking article, and from what I gather it did not actually say it was false, just that they figure it is false and others did also. did I miss the critical line or something where it was patently shown to be false? ( not that I think it is real, in fact I can not imagine it is real, but still...)

I did. Thanks for likely baiting me to get another warning.
