Eat ice-cream.
No joke.

A simple ice-cream will help you lose weight so long as it's cold. It takes you body more energy to heat up the ice-cream and then digest it then it gets from the food. As long as the ice-cream is still frozen when you eat it you will lose weight on an all ice-cream diet!!
Let's see that research link please.

I lied. It's a joke. :p

Still technically correct, the best kind of correct!

Rancher, there are no easy answers here. As a former fat man I can tell you that minor changes to your lifestyle are not going to change much. Here's how I did it:
1. I went to Fort Knox, KY for basic combat training
2. during training, I did not drink anything but water (seriously, they didn't even allow me fruit juice)
3. physically exerted myself 10-20 hours per day depending on the training schedule
4. ??? (kept it up for 4 months... I went through a lot of hold-under companies. Long story)
5. Profit! (lost 55lbs overall while gaining a whole bunch of muscle mass.)

...what can I recommend for you, though? Walk, run, swim, ride a bike... or something. do it for an hour, three times a week at a minimum. Also, replace parts of your diet with salads and lean protein (poultry, fish). Cut down on bread and sugar, and drink a lot of water.
This (mostly). I didn't go to basic training, but I got a construction job for about two years and lost a HUNDRED FUCKING POUNDS and increased a massive amount of muscle mass. The reason I say (mostly) is because I didn't change my diet at all. Not one goddamned bit. My average work day was about 15 hours long, and I spent the whole day running (literally) up and down hills, checking hoses, running a shot-crete hose, lifting drill steel, and hauling 100 lb cement sacks everywhere. There was no time for a break on many days.

You PROBABLY won't be able to do this on a daily basis, so you probably won't get the same results. If you're a big dude, then you're just a big dude. Deal with it. You will NEVER be skinny (I never have, even with all that work), but you can do a lot to keep your weight in check and be healthy (and look damn good). Exercise is key, and a shitload of it helps a shitload more.

Eat less, move more. Its pretty fucking simple, there's no magical weight loss solution. If you don't have the motivation to work out then find something to do while you're excercising, I just listen to my favourite music or podcasts. Excercise is boring (except steps, I do that shit for fun) (and dancing, I spend 60% of my day dancing) so just find something to occupy your mind like radio or TV.

Also, consider going vegetarian. Cut out meat and you'd be bound to lose weight. Don't worry there's more to being a vegetarian than fucking tofu, India get it right lentils and chick peas and such.

Okay, this is somewhat odd, but it works.

Eat less and better, drink only water when not eating a meal, exercise daily.

And for the odd part:

Every time you die in a game, get up do 5 jumping jacks, or push ups or whatever.
Alternatively, you could try this: Every time you die in a game you have to walk/jog/run X Minutes. Adjust according to the game (IE:call of duty, lots of deaths, 1 minute per.) This'll encourage you to do better at the game, and not play for an insanely long time. Select days of the week to do this on, and days to break.

Also, typing this while on the tread mill.

You should get an active hobby, like soccer or running. I bet you could find some buddies to play with.

This isn't rocket science:

2 - Move more.
Bad tips right there. It's eat better, move more. If you're eating less and moving more you really aren't burning anything away. The body need it nutritions, especially while doing regular exercises.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here too and say that with the mentality of just eating less and working out more is fine it still must have some organization behind it to function well. I followed a tip from a web comic (punks 'n nerds quarter life [http://punksandnerds.com/?p=102]) to help mentally archive all the things I did to improve my behaviors as if they were RPG experience tracks. As a gamer of the digital and tabletop variety thinking about nabbing an extra 200xp for extending a run by another mile was more exciting than doing calorie crunching at home, mentally awarding myself +2 to metabolism for munching on salads with light vinaigrette five times a week for a month more interesting than any other mental pat on the back. We're gamers, our brains have been hardwired to think in terms such as DPS, XP, AOEs and other such acronyms and abbreviations. Just because you're a gamer trying to lose weight doesn't mean you have to think exactly like a jock/soldier/construction worker just emulate their logic with your own and earn some RL Achievements!

urgh, I'm 17 stone (around 242 pounds for the americans amongst us) and I'm a short 5'6, I've tried so much of this stuff but I always end up giving up when I don't see instant change, I don't even eat that much anymore, (I'm homeless, sleeping on my brothers floor and can barely afford food but let's not make this about that). It's just exercise that I can't will myself to do, any way anybody has managed to get around to doing it, I can't afford the gym, I have no equipment and I find it impossible to do any weight loss walking....what do I do Escapists, I'm in a bit of trouble with my weight here.

First off, if you want to lose wight you have to want it. YOU HAVE TO WANT IT.

Second, eat 5 small meals a day, it's healthier and allows your body to better digest and get more out of the food, don't eat until you are full, just eat what you need to get by with and get on with your day.

Third, cut as much sugar out of your diet as you can, I recommend you go to FRUIT2O, it's water with fruit flavors to it and it can help you cut your addiction to caffeine. Drink water, seriously, you will notice a difference in your health after the first month. This goes without saying eat smart, eat less red meat and more white meat.

Finally, get outside, walk around, get some sun light in your daily routine before that ***** in Spain starts charging you for it's use.

This is all on you, I can tell you how you can improve your life and be able to see you toes when you look down, not bend over and look but look down.... you have to want to be thin, if you don't want to be thin, you'll just be Mr Tubby Tubby.

Merry Christmas.

You should see a physician.
This is good advice, along with checking for diabetic changes, they can rule out any possible endocrine disorders

Reasonable, not really sure how much a stone is though.
A stone is a measure of weight used in the UK and possibly elsewhere. It's roughly equivalent to 14 lbs.

On topic though, if you really want to lose weight, there's truly only one option: Eat better and exercise. Do some form of cardiovascular exercise for at least 30 minutes a day, and try to control your diet to fit the "Food pyramid" thing.

The latter is fairly easy, and for the former some good suggestions are:

1) Organize a sport like soccer or ultimate frisbee or something once a day with some friends
2) Bet yourself on physical activities (ie, if I can run a mile in 6 minutes, I'll buy myself that thing I've wanted for a while)
3) Find someone to compete against. Both of you try to lose weight and the loser buys dinner or somthing.

1. Buy an excersize bike.
2. Put excersize bike in front of TV.
3. While riding excersize bike play CoD (Or other console game of choice)
4. ????
5. Profit + Weight Loss.

Or if you're boring...

+ Don't drink soft drinks, have water/tea/coffee instead (And try not to put sugar in your coffee)
+ Take 30 minutes of your day where you play video games, and instead go for a fast walk in that 30 minutes. Try to do it at the same time everyday.

Get a dog.
I know a weird tip, but you need to walk whit your dog.
So there you have a reason to get out of your house every day.

So before entering college I was already a pretty heavy guy, but combined with my freshman 15 I'm coming dangerously close to not being able to see parts of my anatomy anymore. I try to work out, but I have a hard time staying committed to anything. The clOSES I ever came to a regular workout was DDR Which led me to believe that I just have to find something that fits my interest. So what does the Escapist advise for potential weight loss solutions. Oh, and I'm not about to pay the money for a Wii or Kinect.
Switch to keystone light or McCormicks Vodka, less calories. Also, in college, walk to your classes, don't ride the bus. Engage in physical drinking games like Beer Ball, that will get you into shape a bit. Join Army ROTC, if only for you physical fitness credits, it's fun, inspiring and a lot like video games (sorta.) But I might of just had a really great detachment. It was fun.

Also, in college, generally they'll have a free gym, go workout or something with friends you make (also a good place to meet girls.) Also, get a job at the university doing maintenance. It won't make you into an Arnold, but it'll keep you in decent shape.

For simple, cost free weight loss... When it's cold outside, don't bundle up, when your body gets cold, you burn a fuckton of calories. Note: When I was wrestling in high school and had to cut weight during the winter, instead of wearing 3 pairs of sweats and a wind suit, I'd go running in only a pair of shorts and I'd loose more weight than if I'd tried the sweats.

Cut out sodas completely. If you smoke cigarettes, either quit, or smoke less; it will help your body to process foods better because it isn't trying to repair your lungs. Don't smoke weed, munchies will get you every time. Don't eat Creatin. It won't help. Don't eat fried food at college, it's available, but choose something else.

PM me and I can give you an upper body workout that will smoke you in 5 minutes, doesn't require weights or anything.

As for core, do flutter kicks and planks.

The same advice that I give to any one I know who wants to lose weight.

Forget stupid diets or exercise routines. Simply find be a bit more active (walk to the store instead of driving) and use up more energy than you take in.

You'll be surprised at how much it has an effect.

This is a terrible idea, I'm sorry. This is just tricking your body to burn fat as energy instead of what you just ate and while it'll make you lose weight, it won't make you any healthier and the second you start eating normally again you'll just put that weight back on straight away.

Get Dance Central for Kinect, stop drinking carbonated drinks, if you have to want chocolate sprinkle salt on it (Ruins the flavour, do it long enough and you'll subconsciously go off chocolate, or develop a very weird favourite snack...)

Becoming vain AND hating yourself would help. Finding a way to enjoy the feeling of being hungry couldn't hurt either.

The hardest thing about losing weight is that it's actually hard to do and you have to commit to it. Once you know you will do whatever it takes(aside from harming yourself) get a local membership to a gym and then ask a trainer to help you. Or just run every morning, eat 3 meals a day and make sure you're at or under your calorie limit. And make sure you are getting enough nutrients/vitamins/calcium/sugar and everything else.

You can't have any easy weight loss because it's not easy.

Erm, it sounds like your weight is the least of your problems at the minute...
