I have no idea why that G'dmned Hunting Rifle is so good, it's inexplicable, though I find the Chinese Assault Rifle is MUCH better in Close Quarters, that or the handy dandy Combat Shotgun. Though with the Hunting Rifle I get AT LEAST 1 critical every time I use it in VATS.

The Silenced 10mm Pistol - It's weak and therefore makes me work for my kills, I have to get close, make sure I can pick off my enemies one by one and pray I can take them down fast before they can let off a shot.

I love the Hunting Rifle, and oddly enough I keep my sledgehammer around for Robots and Mirelurks as well, I am really fond of using vats to "DECIMATE" cockroaches with my sledge as well.

For me it has to be the .44 scoped Magnum it's classy, it's a rarity in the wasteland and it makes you feel elite, also it's got a good sound to it.

The Ripper! Sure, the Shishkebob is cool too, and does more damage, but you just can't beat the satisfying sounds and visuals of the ripper. Besides, it owns when taking down super mutants with miniguns. I seldom take more than 0-2 hits, as long as I make them come to me.
Corner ambush FTW!

Other than that, the Chinese Assault Rifle is very nice, and the Sniper Rifle paired with Sneak is Godly. Damn Greenies can't shoot me if I remove their head with one-two shots from afar. I could go on like this for a long time, mentioning frags, mines (bottlecap yay!), Hunting Rifle, Combat Shotgun...

This is probably why I'm a walking heap of guns. I carry so many different weapons that I shouldn't even be visible underneath them

What is this thing? I got the scheme but I didn't find all the parts yet.

I really like the sawed-off shotgun. I know, it slow and it's useless if your target is further than 2 feet away but if you combine it with the 'bloody mess' perk and shoot a ghoul in the face in slow-motion...
priceless

Long range, relatively low AP, high damage. The named plasma rifle is nice for similiar reasons, and I think it's even higher damage. Maybe a bit less range.

And for close quarters, the combat shotgun is just amazing. It's also really effective outside of VATS while waiting for the cooldown.

Other notable things are kiting enemies (fire ants!) over bottlecap mines. And shooting a mini nuke into the mouth (vats followed the shot right in) of one of the *big* mutants. You know the mutants I'm talking about.

Although the direct head shot with a mini nuke didn't kill him, he still had about 2 bars left. :( Following up with the missile launcher worked though.

The Shishkebab is probably the best melee weapon I've found so far, highest damage, no ammo required, and damage over time as well. You have a motorcycle gas tank on your back, with tubes going to your hand with the motorcycle handbrake attached to a lawnmower blade. The blade has gasoline spraying along it, set on fire. Any hits on an enemy will set them on fire. It's basically a post-apocalyptic lightsabre.

Gotta vote for the PLASMA RIFLE-- not only is it a classic Fallout weapon, but you just can't beat a gun that incinerates enemies into piles of ash.
You mean Laser Rifle? I thought the Plasma Rifle turned them into gelatinous goo.
Err, right, that one. Silly me.

I miss the thrown weapons. I know we've got a couple grenade types - and using them is awesome. But I was hoping I'd get to make a 'Throwing' character, and carry around an arsenal of throwing knives and stuff. Imagine one spinning end over end in VATS and thunking into some poor sots eye.

The unique SMG, its stupidly powerful and you get shed loads of ammo. Or the Nuka grenade (unless your in a building...and using VATS).

1st place. Hunting Rifle - very awesome, and compliments my sheriff's outfit.
2nd place. The Terrible Shotgun - Ka-blaow!
3rd place. Railway Rifle - The noise the steam-thingy makes when you let a spike go is great, the gun isn't very effective though :(

My favorate has to be Eugene (Named Mini Gun) I used that and a Combat Shot gun to competely massaquer the slavers of Paradise falls.

I walk up to the intro guy and he all like...

"Your too Gay to enter here"
I was all like "N-word Please, I go where I want."

so I left and came back sneaked behind him, pulled out my Combat shotgun and spread his brains all over the desk in front of him like butter on toast. Lets just say that he is still sitting at the front desk guarding the enterance without a head.

My personal favorite is the sniper rifle, probably because I don't use it all that much. However, when it does come out to play, someone is going down. It usually is one of those super mutants with a missile launcher that I see from a long way off. It's too bad that ammo is scarce for the sniper rifle, at least in the beginning of the game [got it at level 3].

Other than that, I prefer the hunting rifle. Nice damage, good accuracy, common parts and ammo. My only problem is that the bolt is kinda slow on the standard hunting rifle. I guess I'm gonna have to get the upgraded version this time through.

Stealth Boy + Power Fist = CARNAGE!!!

Also anyone that doesn't like mini nukes needs brain surgery.

If you got enough ammo, the Laser Rifle is some good times.

Although the character I'm playing now has Unarmed as one of his tags, and I must say, running headlong at the Raiders who are trying to gun you down and beating the ugly out of them is quite fun.

The Combat Shotgun, that thing is effective even at long range. Also the Dart Gun is an invaluable asset. I'd probably like the Fat Man if I knew were to get it.

You can find it during the 'Following In His Footsteps' quest. When you get to Galaxy News Radio, a Behemoth Super Mutant attacks, and you have to take it out with a Fat Man you find on a dead BOS knight.
