Dammit, got my facts wrong. He's composing the theme for 13, its 14 he'll be more heavily involved in. That and a secret Mistwalker project no doubt.
His work on the next Mistwalker project should be good. Apparently their next game is a bit of a gamble, so it will probably need Uematsu and other team members to be on top form. Hopefully the game will be able to survive on it's other elements, but any would-be classic JRPG needs a great soundtrack imo.

His theme for Final Fantasy XIII should be good, although I refuse to believe he'll be able to top "Eyes on Me". Just need to wait till I can actually afford one of these next gen console gizmos now.

As far as story, setting, characters and general immersion are concerned, I'm going with FF VI. But, I feel FF X had the best combat system.

The only one I've played is 12. I'm about 25 hours in, and it's pretty good, but I'm encountering the same problem that I did with Pokemon, which is deciding whether to focus all my attention on one party configuration or level them all up.

I liked FFV the best, might be nostaliga, but I had some good times with that game back in the days.
Although the story was a bit medicore, the class system was pretty nice.

For some reason I didn't like FFVII, not quite sure why it was, been a while since I tried it.

Of the holy trilogy that is VII, VIII, and IX, I'll always consider VIII the strongest. Though not very popular as the magic system was polarizing, the card game was a joke, and that uncanny "follow the leader" party system just looked weird, it's story is one of the most unique and it's got a genuinely likeable cast of characters.

Square have gone downhill if you ask me. Sure, their games look prettier than ever,
You know, I think they've looked worse since they went 3D. I don't care what anyone says, pre-rendered graphics will always own 3D graphics, no matter how powerful games consoles are.

For me personally it's VII. I know that's not very original, but what I love about the FFs that got it right was that mix of technology where you couldn't tell if they were set in the past, present or future. They were just timeless. FFVII got that timeless thing down to a T.

I liked VII(7) as it was the one I played as a young kid (on PC, actually). A lot of the modern culture has ruined it now, with their excessive fansites and fanfiction, triggering multiple sequels and movies that pretty much absorb the unwanted culture into the medium itself...

If you ever actually played through, you find Cloud isn't NEARLY the emo, untalkative person he becomes in the later games/movies. He's just like that once in a while in cutscenes, often because CGI animation was too cheap to give deeply expressive faces. Cloud freely makes jokes at times, gets caught up in really weird situations (like having to dress up as a woman to get inside somewhere), etc.

And let's not forget even if you don't like him, there's still Cid, who pretty much makes up for everyone else's character flaws.

Finally, I guess a lot of FF games are like this, but it was one of the longest games I played, plus had plenty of sidequests. I sort of feel like in this day and age, with the number of 30-man teams required to get one side character animated in a cutscene, there's just no way to make a game over 4-6 hours.

FFVII because of Cid Highwind, he is my personal favourite FF character and i'm sure i'm not alone in thinking that. He's the only JRPG character I know of in FF at least that could be as badass in reality as in the game.

He doesn't have an impossible body shape or hairstyle, he's not a super powered soldier with a stupidly huge sword, nor does he have a mysterious backstory or a mechanically enhanced body. He's just a dude with a spear, a cigarette and an airship that with level any enemy with with a fuck ton of missle if they piss him off.

Oooh, tough one.

I reckon that, in the end, I'd say Final Fantasy X. However, I really enjoyed VII, VI and XII, so it's quite a difficult decision.

Also, I'm looking forward to playing Dissidia, I reckon that'll be a lot of fun as well.

Uematsu is involved in FF13.
Composing, or just as a supervisory role? Admittedly, he only had a supervisory role in Chrono Trigger, so perhaps even if that's the case the game will be a musical masterpiece.
Composing however he is directing the work for FFXIII versus I beleive.

IV for me. Loved it as a child, still love it now.

I've played the remake of III for DS, not too happy with the early story development.
FF:CC was alright, but got very repetitive. Final boss was also a joke.
FF:Tactics Advance was also good, but also dragged.
FF: Tactics A2 was not that great.
And the recent FF:CC for the DS (Echoes something?) was also laggy. Didn't care much for the story, either.

So many people said it wasnt good, but it was a refreshing mix of the old style and the new. Not to mention it actually picked up where X left off.
