Tali definitly in the Bioware department.

Other than that... I must be playing games that are too MANLY to have romance.

yep, best part of the game was when I put those two back together. I was cupid Shepherd for a moment

(Kotor spoilers) I would also have to say Bastila and Revan. I think out of all girl game characters Bastila was my favorite. Also they're were not a lot of stupid mushy lines that I could remember. In Mass Effect there were too many cringe worthy Shepherd wooing moments

Sonic, Tails and Knuckles if there isn't sexual tension there then I'm a goat.
You're a goat. I really don't know where that came from at all.

And how are we forgetting the greatest videogame romance of all time?
YOU AND YOUR COMPANION CUBE!

I'd have to say Squall and Rinoa. Not only do I find their ages appealing, I like the sort of shy not too outgoing and blatant relationships.

I'd have to say Chell and Companion Cube. Only video game death that made me put the game down and start to sob.

My favourite would be Jak and Keira from Jak and Daxter. The sexual tension is just rampant throughout the first four games, but it takes just as long for them to actually go past flirting.

That's actually pretty difficult. Romance is a huge part of the visual novels I play, and most of them have very moving relationships (<url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.135672-Neutral-Drow-reviews-A-Drug-That-Makes-You-Dream>Kouhei/Aeka, <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.128851-TYPE-MOON-reviews-Tsukihime>Shiki/Arcueid, <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.163769-Neutral-Drow-reviews-Kanon>Yuichi/Shiori...).

Those ones aside, I have to say my favorite romance is probably Emil and Marta from Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. I'd describe it, but someone on GameFAQs already put it much more eloquently than me.

Marta: OMG I LUV YOU YER PERFECT. Also, I'm counting on you, I know you can do it, other supportive statements.
Emil: (Well, she's clearly idealized me and is in love with the fantasy, but it's nice to be counted on, and she's a good friend, crush aside.)

Marta: OMG I LUV YOU
Emil: STOP TRYING TO MAKE ME YOUR PERFECT MAN, GOD!
Marta: ...(Oh balls he's right.)
Emil: (Damn, now she thinks I'm a wuss like everyone else)

Marta: (Hey wait a minute, even though Emil's a wuss, he's really trying his hardest to protect me, and he is really nice...oh crap I think I'm falling for him again...though he probably hates me.)
Emil: (Wow, now Marta's stopped hanging off me, I can really start to see her for who she really is. Despite everything she still supports me, and I really want to protect her...oh balls I think I'm falling for her.)

Ice Cave

Emil: (Dammit if I was my Ratatosk self more this wouldn't happen)
Ratatosk: (You got that right *bodysnatch*)
Marta: (Wait, he doesn't hate me? Chance!)

Ratatosk Emil: (Why does everybody seem to hate me and not my wussy normal self? I get the job done, I'm strong and all that other awesome stuff. I can actually protect Marta.)
Marta: (Ratatosk Emil is kinda brutal...and kind of a douche, but he is trying his hardest too. It's nice,)

Ratatosk Emil: *does REALLY douchey thing* (God I'm awesome)
Marta: You're a giant DOUCHE. Where's normal Emil? He wouldn't do that. (Lists actual normal Emil qualities, not idealized ones)
Ratatosk Emil: (DAMMIT)

Ratatosk Emil: (Maybe I could try being less of a douche) *tries acting like normal Emil.*
Marta: Thanks for trying, you aren't entirely a douche, are you?

Ratatosk Emil: Y'know what? Balls this, women make my head hurt. You're up normal me.
Emil: Cool.

Marta: BAWW DADDY BAWW
Emil: Look, I'm here for you. You can count on me, after all I-
ToS cast: ****BLOCK'D
Emil: Dammit

Marta: *sniff* Daddy *sniff*
Ratatosk Emil: What nice me said in a more jerky style of speech.
Vanguard: ****BLOCK'D
Ratatosk Emil: DAMMIT

*Marta captured*

Emil: MARTA!
Marta: EMIL!
Tenebrae: ****BLOCKING!
Emil and Marta: DAMMIT

*ZA BIG REVEAL*

Emil: *existential crisis*
Marta: Look, no matter what, the time we spent together was real, and Emil, I really do...
Presea: ...*****blocked
Marta: Oh come on!

*MORE REVEAL*

Emil: I love you, after all you've always been supportive of me while at the same time I could always count on you.
Marta: I love you too Emil, you're so nice and always try your hardest despite your own fears and doubts.
Emil and Marta: *check for ****blockers* *kiss*
Lucis: YAY!

Rest of game.

True Ending

That romance is the reason I could not play that game for more than fifteen minutes at a time. I still haven't beaten it.

here are the ones i can think of:

claude x rena (star ocean second star story)
hiro x lucia and ronfar x jean (lunar 2 eternal blue)
cloud x tifa x aeris (ff7; and yes, he could've gotten both of them if he tried)
locke x celes (ff6)
croix x luca (ar tonelico 2)
chrono x marle (chrono trigger)
tidus x yuna (ffx)

that's all i can think of at the moment.

I'm going to be unoriginal and say Tali, since the ME series is the only RPG series I've ever played and thoroughly enjoyed.

Also, those curves.

This. A thousand times this. I was playing renegade, but he was so sweet that I had to convince the asari to stay with him... It was hilarious and cute. My background on my computer is actually the phrase "Oh blue rose of Illium..."

I also loved the romance between fem Shepard and Garrus, because he is REALLY confused about the whole situation. I want to see if that develops more in ME3...

The romance with Thane was also good. It's more realistic; he's had a wife, and will always love her, but there's room in his life for you too...

The obvious romance between Link and Malon in OoT.
Though the Link - Princess Ruto thing was always cute too.

Eh, hum

(my Avatar)
She quickly rose to be my favorite romance option. Before it was Bastilla, actually pick just about any Bioware game, they do romance the best in my opinion.

Ignus and his girlfriend from Planescape. Ignus is a burning guy who's dormant, and his girlfriend sits there watching him, weeping. When you wake him up, she rushes over to embrace him...only to be burnt to a crisp, with a smile on her face. Ignus only loves fire.

The main character and a witch named Ravel have an interesting relationship as well.

Heavyarms, you have restored my faith in this forum, and it only took 96 posts.

I was beginning to think I'd search all these pages without finding Locke/Celes, which was so beautiful that it moved me greatly when I first saw it and I still think of it now.

Does that mean it's a good or a bad thing I put that whole thing in spoiler tags? Granted, there's not a whole lot especially spoilerific about it (barring the fact that Marta actions go from "fangirling" to "love," which is something that needs to be spoiled).

I know many people have already said Tali, but I would like to share my experience. As soon as I met her in Mass Effect 1, I thought, "That's the one I'm going for." since I already knew that it was possible to romance characters. The way she is, at first, kind of an outsider who's different and doesn't really fit in with others(something which I'm sure a lot of people can relate to, judging by the number of Tali responses) was something that I liked. I like shy girls, OK? I was mighty pissed when I found out that you couldn't do anything with her, but then overjoyed that you could seek a romance in ME2. While she's not as shy as she was before, she is still getting used to being with others and acts a little awkwardly around Shepard, which is always cute. I especially liked the way that she SPOILER ALERT caught Shepard before he fell at the end of the suicide mission, which I know changes depending on who's in your party, which she was.

-Revan 'n' Bastilla: KotOR 1- i don't know if it really counts, but as somebody who always plays rpg's under the guise of "what would i do in this situation (if i had these powers, could hold my own in a fight, and wasn't a complete batman-obsessed-out-of-shape-nerd)", it made complete sense to me to side with the girl instead of the two jedi who were tellin' me how i have to "Keep my emotions in check".....here was a woman who wanted us to "embrace the power of our passions"....now THERE'S A KEEPER!!! I was damn-near the pinnacle of "Light Side" up to that point, then dropped to the dark side like a stone...ah, memories....
I was originally going to burst out with something to do with this when I saw this thread, but it looks like you've got it covered.
