I like the PS3 and 360 controllers equally. The PS3 controller is better for 2d games and fighting games, plus it has an accelerometer which is great. Whereas the 360 is better for shooters and it's compatible with PC's.

out of all the ones ive used the 360 controller is the best, with the only thing wrong being the LB and RB buttons I find awkward to use, something about he way they are placed makes me want to hit the triggers instead

The GC controller isn't bad for anything that doesn't use the right stick, its just too small and poorly placed to use for shooters

The dualshock is horrible, with the only thing worse being the Wii classic controller. The location of the analog stick and dpad sucks, as if they want you to use the dpad over analog, outside of it just being strange to have my thumb down that low it makes it harder to use the dpad with the right hand in order to switch weapons and targets for games that use it as such. The rounded analog stick is like it's ment for your thumb to slip off. As for the dpad its just as bad, any game that makes heavy use of it blisters my thumb, I don't get how anyone can claim the 360 dpad sucks with the abomination of the dualshock dpad

The wii classic controller is the only thing worse, as it has all the problems of the dualshock pad without the grips, and it doesn't even work well for nostalgia as the rounded back makes it feel wrong

second, it aso works on PC's which is a nice feature
People keep telling me that, but how the crap do you do it?

Also, I would have to say...Well, I would say NES controller, but then I realized I was just saying that because of all the enjoyment the NES in general has brought me, the controller kind of sucks...

So, I say 3-way tie between Dualshock 2/360 controller/Arcade controllers

Because we like Dpads that are accurate? Of course it's hard to press the Dpad with the right thumb since the Dpad is on the left hand side of the controller! The idea is to use your left hand for the Dpad. The only real way to fix this is to put the dpad on the under side of the controller so you can use your other fingers to manipulate it. (Of course the people making these controllers don't think that far ahead.) At any rate you will either have to give up being able to move and manipulate the Dpad at the same time or give up control of the camera to manipulate the Dpad if you want to try and manipulate it with your right hand.

Ironically it is actually easier to keep the thumb on the left stick and press at least down on the dpad with the PS3 controller since the Dpad is much closer to the stick.

The 360 one I guess, the wired controller, cause it doesn't run out of batteries, and doesn't have a dead weight underneath it.
But I want to use this time to digress and say that the Gamecube controller was awesome. Back when it first came out it looked so different and space age. Now it looks dated. Really dated. When I first started playing on it, it gave my hands the worst cramps, and the D stick was slippery and did my thumbs in. But after it made my hands its ***** for a while it became the awesomest controller ever. It was one of those controllers that bent you to its will, but you came out the winner in the long run.
Extended use would probably have mutated my hands or something.

Bwahahahaha. I used those things for the longest times, and it totally screwed up my hands for a few years(probably would have been months had I stopped using it.) I hold my pencils funny now, although my hands aren't screwed up at all anymore. =P

With the 360 controller having the dpad to the right of the stick makes it easier to move and change weapons at the same time, as in I'm never forced to stop moving just to change weapons. The dpad might be on the left side of the controller but its still in reach of the right thumb. With the dualshock, while you can reach over and hit the dpad with your right hand its not as natural. as far as accuracy goes the only style game ware dpads have any sort of advantage for moving is 2d fighters, and thats only do to the fact you end up using them more as buttons to do attacks rather then movement. for anything else the accuracy between the 360/dualshock dpads is the same.

Mmm... Loving the 360 controller, and it sucks cuz I've strayed from both of my originals... The Nintendo and the Playstation controllers I used to be used to... Oh WELL!

Dualshock because of the d-pad and buttons. Although you could argue that whatever Dualshock is good at, an arcade stick is better at.

xbox 360, it feels natural in your hands and no wires. also, the thumsticks are indented which makes them easier to controller unlike the playstation controller.

1. You're holding the controller wrong. I can almost palm a basketball and there is no way in hell I could reach the 360 dpad with my right thumb and still maintain control of the right stick, I doubt anyone could.

2. Have you just tried swapping the sticks around in shooters at least?

3. 3d Fighters as well, heck I've had issues with that POS dpad not responding in Ninja Gaiden 2.

If you have the wired controller just plug it into the usb and set it up. If you have the wireless controller you just need an xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver ... http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2 like the one on this site

Now to reply to the thread i love the 360 controller the only thing keeping it from being absolutely perfect is the d pad. I like the ps3 controller aswell but i dont like the mushy trigger buttons on it. The best controller that i've used would have to be the logitech cordless action controller simply perfect in every way

I'm pretty sure that anyone who hated the Gamecube controller just didn't use it enough. As a gamepad, they really thought out ways to make it the best it could be. The odd 'big-a' button was a very unique move, and it ends up making the controller have one less blind spot in terms of pressing 2 buttons at the same time. I hate it on the 360 when I have to hit X and B or Y and A. Only B and X were hard to hit simultaneously on the GC. There also was the dual action shoulder buttons that were an inventive idea. I think that if the GC actually was successful, we would have seen a lot more uses for those buttons, and more people would have used the controllers and not hated them like they do now.

I also feel that the 360 controller had a lot of thought put into it as well, but it ended up with a bit less in the imagination department.

I don't have a *huge* problem with sony's controllers, but they are starting to disgust me. The sticks are so added on from the original PS1 controller, and they have never bothered to change the design at all. If you are going to make games that use the stick more than the d-pad, then you damn well better put the stick where you thumb goes naturally. 2 generations later, the only addition the controller has received is R2-L2 triggers that you fingers can easily slip off.

All this said, the Wii has the best controller. I'm completely ignoring the gimmicky motion control on this decision too. I think that a pointer + Neutral arm position (not thumb like the 360) is a far superior innovation this generation. As long as the game permits it, I really enjoy playing with my arms folded or just in whatever relaxed position I want them in. All other gamepads require you to cramp your hands close together. Also, again, game permitting, one handed game play. It's nice when you are in a critical moment, and can scratch that itch on your face. I've damaged my Mario Kart scores plenty when I think I can make a quick swipe at my face, and then crash. With the Wii version I can scratch and rub away. The only problem is that I think MKWii is crap.
