As many of us have been noticing, indie gaming is on the rise. Now, being into indie music and fashion myself, I decided to take a look at some of these so clalled "indie games", and sure enough, I fell in love. I've gotten to the point where over half of my gaming is by indie developers.
Anyways, getting back on topic, my favorite indie title is probably "Pixeljunk Eden". It has a great, original soundtrack, interesting, new-ish gameplay, yet an old-school platformer feel that just gives it that tasty little cherry on top.
So tell me, what's your favorite, and why?

Audiosurf because you can play any song. And is can be easy or hard depends on the song

Well what exactly are you counting as an Indie game? Because in many peoples eyes Shadow of the Colossus was an indie game, if so then I have to give my praise to that. But if you're talking games more like world of goo or something...then I honestly don't know. Probably world of goo lol

Independant games don't have corporate backing, generally, they aren't published in the usual way, as publishers pay for games to be made.

These days, most independent games either appear in the flash media and are sold either independently by the maker, sold on an online marketplace like PSN and XBLA, or are released by the maker free to the public.

Jets N' Guns Gold gave me a good few hours of fun. Old-school style shoot 'em up, amusing and slightly satirical storyline (let down slightly by a poor English translation), cheap and had an AWESOME soundtrack courtesy of Metal band 'Machinae Supremacy'. It's kinda short, but I had a lot of fun with it.

Starscape was also a pretty good, old-school style game. Kinda like 'asteroids'-meets-'tyrian'. I'm pretty sure you can get it from Steam. It's worth a look.

Also, 'Breakquest' is a break the blocks style game, but is actually pretty innovative (it has a physics engine) and has an awesome level design.

These games may not be for everyone, but if you like your indie games with a retro feel, I'd certainly check 'em out.

I hate posting on my own threads, but I do want to mention one more game that is tied with Eden in my books: Everyday Shooter, by Johnathan Mak. It got a little bit popular after it won the 2007 indie game of the year award, but it's still criminally underrated. If anyone has $10 floating around, buy Everyday Shooter. I have yet to meet someone who hasn't enjoyed this classic 2D shooter treat

Castle Crashers? The Behemoth is a fairly indie-type developer, consisting mostly of Tom Fulp and a couple of buddies.

Eets and I-Fluid are pretty good. I got the indie pack off steam when it was $10, so it came with like 5 games. I like Multiwinia and Trials 2 as well.

Audiosurf. Man, do I love Audiosurf! You can play any song you have on your computer, and with several different modes to surf with. Its level capacity is literally limitless! Plus it gets updates on a fairly constant level. Seriously now... it's the ultimate indie game.

Toribash, World of Goo. Audiosurf is okay, but that's just a nice-looking MP3 player.

I'd say CC definitely counts. Size or complexity or cost don't determine whether a game is indie (Braid cost TONS of money to make and it's considered Indie)

it's all basically down to developers making their own games with their own money or money from several smaller places (not large games publishers) and making a game.

Karoshi 2.0. An extremely clever fourth wall-breaking puzzle/platormer where your only goal is to kill yourself. It's freeware, so I can recommend everyone to try it out.

Mount and blade is definitely my favourite, but I am acquiring quite the collection of indie games and there are very few I don't like.
I am also looking forward to The Maw, comes out on steam on the 10th, can preorder now for 10% off though. It looks like it will be lots of fun.

Audio surf is also great.

Noitu Love 2 [http://www.konjak.org/nolove2.htm]

A sweet game only available on PC. A side scroller action beat-em-up that harkens to Megaman. You target with your Mouse, and do crazy awesome stuff. Highly recomend it..

I can't belive somebody haven't said it yet (maybe I just missed it), but my favourite indie game is Cave story. Great story, nice pixellated graphics and pretty challenging without being too hard. I wanna be the guy is also good (if you are a masochist). Iji also deserves a mention.
