There's Mars Voltas: "When all the worms come crawling out my head, telling me not to be afraid".
And in the less grim end of the spectrum, there's a ton of cool lines in D-A-D's lyrics:
"I stare at the frame, because the mirror hangs to low"
"The llight at the end of the tunnel is nothing but the burglar alarm"

One that I have always liked is from the song "It Hurts" by Angels and Airwaves.

"The alcohol is scented with her breath."

I just like the poetic feel of it.

Bad Religion-Honest Goodbye

That sick brass boy day dreaming,
cry baby convict demon,
hand so clean,
a sympathetic cold blooded killing machine.

donno hehe, it always makes my skin curl, one of my fav songs ever.

First, the single part of a chorus lyrics:

...And now for the "single-line" lyrics:

d

Also, there are too many "single-lyrics" from <link=http://www.youtube.com/user/TheAdventuresOfDnB>The Adventures of Duane and Brando to list, so I'll just say ALL OF THEM!

The three that come to mind are:

"You've got to go through hell before you get to heaven" - 'Jet Airliner' by the Steve Miller Band

and

"You'll never know the feeling of my bleeding heart" - 'Room 19' by No Use For A Name

and

'The storms will surely come. True love is a choice you must make and you are the one, that I set my heart to choose' - 'The Weight' by Thrice

In Thick Darkness.
Amid Violent Tempests of Unendurable Cacophony.
His Serpents Make Offerings unto His Image and Live upon Their Own Fire.

-Nile

As dark as the winter, as black as her grim mask of death
As cold as her sorrow, her ivory tears

-Agalloch

Love it when you call me legs
In the morning buy me eggs

-Lady Gaga

I rest in my blood
Soon I will face the gods
Strangers cry for me
I wish they'd let me be

Show no sympathy
Shed no tears for me
I know who I am
I am an evil man

-Amon Amarth

Well I find it hard to go past lyrics from a few Drones songs. (Australian angry/morose garage rock)

When I'm feeling all deep and meaningful I always go to "Oh why"
If money is the root of evil, then fear of death is worse
This mortal coil is not a test and you can't hide in a purse
So do go casting no dispersions in the street
Because half the world that starves know will know that the half you're in does not deserve to eat

It's not as whiny emo rock as it sounds, they're a good band to check out if you like noisy rock.

But my favorite lyric by them is from I see seaweed. -"like I'm shooting at a shadow that a bomb burnt on the wall."

I am a happy person I swear.....

I've got a couple. In order:
FLASH!
Aa-aaah!

Queen - "Flash"
You can check out any time you like
But you can never leave.

The Eagles - "Hotel California"
But it was only a fantasy
The wall was too high, as you can see
No matter how he tried, he could not break free
And the worms ate into his brain.

Pink Floyd - "Hey You"

I think people are cheating for putting up a full verse! If I did that I would have so many good choices, I was just going on with single lines that I thought were brilliant.
It's hard sometimes to get proper context from a single line. There are cases where the build-up it's what makes a lyric better.

And the OP said a few lines was okay. :p

I have a few, though they're pretty simple:

"My friends, my habits, my family, they mean so much to me, I just don't think that it's right." - One Chance by Modest Mouse

"If there was a day I could live, a single breath I could take, Id trade all the others away." - Laid to Rest by Lamb of God

"It's so hard to be the man I would be if hatred and fear no longer appeared." - Skin of a Drum by Saul Williams

I like to think I'm just a delightful ray of sunshine.

It might be cheating, but I'm just going for complete thoughts. Props to you though for not only quoting Bad Religion, but for quoting a song from the half of their discography I don't own.

Oh! That reminds me! Not a song, but a poem from Alan Moore's [i/]V for Vendetta[/i]:

"I love you but why must you love the law?
'Tis plain for all to see that she's a whore...
...that virtuous persons have no need to woo;
that villains screw, then studiously ignore."

I also enjoy this one:

"He gives the kids free samples because he knows full well
That today's young innocent faces will be tomorrow's clientele!"

-Tom Lehrer, "The Old Dope Peddler"

The thread needed some Tom Lehrer.

Personally, my favorite quote is from the Bush song "Swallowed" which summed up my whole life in one sentence:

"I'm with everyone and yet not."

Tough call since I have so many... so I'll just list a few.

"Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end..."
-Semisonic, "Closing Time"

"Nothing worth having comes without some kind of fight/You gotta kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight."
-Barenaked Ladies, "Lovers in a Dangerous Time"

"I'm not a hero, I'm not a savior/Forget what you know/I'm just a man whose circumstances went beyond his control..."
-Styx, "Mister Roboto"

And that's just the ones with a few lines!

What? No Rush?

Bravado:
"If we burn our wings
Flying too close to the sun
If the moment of glory
Is over before it's begun
If the dream is won
Though everything is lost
We will pay the price,
But we will not count the cost"

That was one of the two best songs on which Kenney Jones played drums. :D The other was One at a Time, also an Entwistle composition.

Ever hear his second solo album, Whistle Rymes? It's absolutely phenomenal.

Just hand me down, give me a place to be.
