Hey, that's my Japanese Officer Sword you're talking about! It won't slice through tanks, but it did end quite a few Chinese lives during the 1st Sino-Japanese and later the 2nd.[/quote]

How would you know what the sword has been through?

otherwise my favorite melee weapon is the claymore

The ripper from fallout 3
Damn! Finally someone says that. I'd have to agree.

The Ripper is bloody awesome, especially when you have the "+5 damage to ghouls" perk that actually gives you +5 damage to everyone. For every hit. And each link in the chainsaw counts as a hit. Thus, you get something huge like +100 dps with the ripper, while the Power Fist only gets +5 dps or so.
I don't care if it's a glitch or unrealistic, it's bloody awesome. The only down side is the speed at which it wears out...

Well I dont really like them because I have studied, both in theory and in practice, eastern and western martial arts. I know how the katana has been over glorified into a God-among-men weapon, and it just pisses me off. You know a well crafted longsword can be just as dangerous in the right hands.....

Baseball bat in Dead Rising.

Just something satisfying in the way it connects to the skull of an undead.

Honestly, Katana. That or spears/polearms. Mainly, because I've had actual training in all of two melee weapons; katana and polearms... mostly katana though. I don't have a problem with western weapons, I've just had more experience with the katana. Frankly, I also appreciate that it is a very fast weapon, and still fairly deadly, being a two-handed weapon.

Next choice would be machete and axe, which are very fast and high-impact, respectively. Or brass knuckles; I can punch like a beast. Still, I'd much rather take out an enemy from as much distance as possible; thankfully I'm a good shot, especially with pistols.

Lightsaber. You cannot beat a lightsaber.
If we're extending this to sci-fi weapons, then I'd go for a Power Fist (or Thunder Hammer) over a light-saber any day... I'm talking 40K version, not Fallout. Lightsaber might cut through anything, but even that can't take out a tank with ONE hit.

Chainsword would be pretty fun too... All the blood-spray of a chainsaw without all the clogging or annoying unable-to-penetrate-powered-armor problems

The crowbar on L4D2 was very fun.
Machete and Ninja Sword are the best in that game, in my opinion. Excepting the Chainsaw, of course, but that's best for horde attacks or when surrounded.

I hear ya on that. I actually prefer close range over long. My aim sucks, but I tand to be able to keep my cool in hand to hand. I like to get close and personal with my opponent because thats how most people crack. Hence my preferred choice of a short Italian longsword (i know there is contradiction in there but its actually possible to have a short longsword) with a Stilletto in my off-hand.

And I used to play warhammer 40,000k. The tabletop not the video game. And I had an eldar army that could turn any space marine unit of equal point value into my little power armored B*****es...... those were good times....

V.A.T.S.

If that doesn't count, Morrigan's Bear Form in Dragon Age: Origins. The Summon Bear spell in Oblivion was awesome, but it didn't let you be a bear.

FINALLY THE GODS HAVE GRANTED ME THE FAVOUR OF BECOMING THE MOST FEARSOM THING TO EVER LIVE! FUCK THE BLIGHT, I'M A GODDAMN BEAR!! BOW BEFORE MY MIGHT!- is what I said as soon as I saw that spell in her list.

Actually, she's pretty scary by herself.
