I understand it's not exactly obscure as it was main stream but I persona;;y loved I am legend. Just seeing this movie blow by like a summer block buster was disappointing to me. I really liked the premise, the music, the atmosphere and generally everything about the movie in general. I do have some complaints about it though. I thought that it was a bit too short and didn't spend enough time with the character and the world before the shit hit the fan. Then seeing the bonus features on the dvd with the motion comics just felt like a tease for what could have been an expanded universe. I'm not saying bring back Will smith but I would personally love to see more from the concept.

Not very obscure, but (500) Days of Summer is by far the best romantic comedy I have ever seen (eternal sunshine of the spotless mind is better, but it is far too serious to be a comedy to me)

'Primer'.

Certainly the best time-travel film I've seen, if not the easiest to follow. It took me 3 viewings to understand which timestream was which and which versions of the protaganists was which, and still not sure I'm completely sure...

Brillant.

I think this picture sums up my favorite obscure movie. Hell, it's my favorite movie period.

The Box. Probably one of the strangest films I ever happened upon with my family while flipping through channels. The plotline was amazing, but unfortunately not many people get it :/
Wow really? I hated that movie and I don't think it's account of me not getting it.

OT: Wow this thread has been done so many times here but this is the first time where its a good 2 pages of films that are actually obscure.

I'm a huge huge David Lynch fan.

If you've got a tolerance for movies that don't make immediate sense, go pick up a copy of

Eraserhead

Blue Velvet

Mullholland Dr.

Inland Empire
i can understand why some people would respect lynch's work, but i find it to be unnecessarily unsettling.
I don't necessarily disagree with you here, but growing up as a horror fan (not so much in the movie form as the short story form, particularly the 'fantastic' vein of horror), the unsettling nature of his movies is really what drew me to them in the first place.

But yeah, I can totally see how enjoying Lynch would rely on one's tolerance (if not embrace) of the unsettling.

have you tried his signature cup coffee?
I have not! I suppose I will sooner or later (although Lynch did teach me how to prepare a mean bowl of Quinoa).

The Wind that Shakes the Barley- a tight-as-balls story about the Irish civil war
Moon- a guy lives on the moon and learns the horrifying secret about why he's there
Chaos Theory- Ryan Reynolds' life is destroyed so he decides to let chance dictate his every action
Sunshine- a team of scientists fly a spaceship to the sun to jump-start it with a bomb the size of Manhattan
Outstanding list, I've seen them all apart from Chaos Theory.

Moon and Wind that Shakes the Barley are personal favourites.

Im not a hipster, im a snob, but i see so many posters who doesnt know the difference between obscure and underrated.
I think ill tell you both

My fav underrated movies are

Rob Zombie's Halloween, i think if you let the fact that its a reemake, its really good.

Defendor, so much f*cking better than Kick ass, I much rather watch a mentally handicapped Woody Haroldson fight crimes than a obnoxious little twat, all though i got to give credit to Kick Ass for setting Nic Cage on fire (oops spoiler, now go see defendor)

Now the rather obscure movies i like

Peter Jacksson's Meet the feebles, its like south park meets the muppets

Blair witch 2, I dont know what they thought when they decided to make it a regular live action movie. the movie is just one of those hilariously bad movies, but i dont understand why i enyoy it cause the original blair witch is my favourite horror movie of all time.

But i got to take one thing while i am on the subject, there is something that really puzzles me, i have several times seen the blair witch as a action figure, but the strange thing is that neither of the movies shows the witch, but i know there is an pc game of blair witch, whats up with that.

sorry if my engrish is failing at some parts

Chapter 27 is one of my favorite movies of all time. Jared Leto (Frontman for 30secondstomars and co-star of Fight Club) plays the man who murdered John Lennon and presents a VERY neat look into the mind of a crazed person. Tough to find a copy of (at least here in the US) but worth a watch.

Isn't that the live-action of Higurashi?
I'm told it's fucking horrible :|
I don't think so. It's a traditional animated <url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirited_Away>film from 2001, it's like the Best Selling Japanese film of all time but over here it's just a blip. Other than people who REALLY REALLY keep up with Oscars (since it won Animated Best Picture that year) nobody Stateside knows about it (or I've yet to meet someone who has)

The Testament of Dr. Mabuse.

Very old movie, (1933) but i rather enjoyed it. Available on netflix.

Great if you like classics, but if you're of the OMG NEED EXPLOSHUNS AND SPECIAL EFFECTS OR THE MOVIES BOOOOORING mindset, I'd say do us all a favor and don't bother :p

Repo! The Genetic Opera is just downright awesome condensed into film form. If you're worried about quality - This was made by the guys who made the saw series :D

I'm taking obscure as "Extremely bizzare" instead of "Mostly unheard of". Do you know why? Because it's the most unnatural, obscure, macabre thing I've ever seen:

Now, I'm not kidding anyone: I'm a weird person. I have a weird (and moderately dark) sense of humor, I draw weird pictures, I write weird stories, and sometimes, at random points in the day, I'll suddenly envision an entire scenario that could occur featuring very strange events. I refuse to describe these events, as you'd probably feel inclined to get me institutionalized.
However, I was taken aback by this film. It was so... bizzare. by the end, I was literally screaming "WHAT THE HELL!?" every few seconds. It's something one must experience themselves, and it's streaming on Netflix. If you're curious and not easily disturbed, watch it.
Are you familiar with the work of Franz Kafka?
The name is slightly familiar, but I'm afraid I'm not.
